Project 1 // Child's Play Charity

  1. 1. Giving through the power of play. Grace Lim Read142 D. Hughes MW 10:10am
  2. 2. Our Mission Childs Play is dedicated to improving the lives of children in hospitals around the world through the kindness and generosity of the video game community and the power of play. Child’s Play is always striving to pursue newopportunities and expand the positive impact of the cause. This includes consistently researching and pursuing alternate fundraising channels, new donation platforms, additional events and better community support. When gamers give back, it makes a difference!
  3. 3. Gaming Marathons• Players will host livestreams where they will tackle a variety of games, beat a single game, or just play for 24 hours.• Many streamers will giveaway special prizes to viewers who donate giving people a strong incentive to chip in.• The success rate is very high as many streamers who do host charity
  4. 4. InputsTo host a gaming marathon, you’ll need:• Livestream gear (Xsplit is free!)• A PC with a generous amount of RAM to assure a smooth stream while gaming.• A donation box! (ChipIn, Paypal, etc. have widgets you can add to your page)• Energy! These can last a very long time so be prepared.• Have prizes to distribute to your viewers for donating!• No one has to be adept at any of these things. We will provide as much information as needed to help you get your stream started! It’s amazing to see how the community comes together for a cause and we are proud to support anyone that is willing to do
  5. 5. Outputs• We have over 70 hospitals worldwide with wishlists that we have fulfilled.• We have over 70 different corporate sponsors that contribute to our events. Some of our Platinum sponsors are Google, Amazon, Microsoft, Nintendo, Sony and Warner Bros. This shows the power the gaming community has as a team and the positive effect gaming can have on a child’s life.
  6. 6. Outcomes• Less stress for the children• Acts as a distraction• Brings the family together to have fun• Hospitals will have more activities• Keeps kids from being depressed• Improves public opinion of the video gaming
  7. 7. Processes• We work with gamers that host charity streams and promote their channel through major gaming and tech sites as well as our very own Penny-Arcade website.• We work right alongside hospitals to create their wishlists and rely on the promotion from the streamers to help their wishlist be fulfilled. With the kindness of the gaming community, we are able to assist hospitals in providing fun, and entertainment for the kids that are bedridden and are limited to what they can do.
  8. 8. The Community Need• We have over 70 hospitals worldwide that we work with and were able to raise $3,512,340 in 2011.• Working with the help of hospital staff, we set up gift wish lists full of video games, toys, tablets, books, and other fun stuff for kids.• With those cash donations, we purchase new consoles, peripherals, games, and more for hospitals and therapy facilities. These donations allow for children to enjoy age-appropriate entertainment, interact with their peers, friends, and family, and can provide vital distraction from an otherwise generally unpleasant experience.
  9. 9. The Shuttleworth FoundationThe Shuttleworth Foundation is striving to The Child’s Play Charity can offer thecreate an open knowledge society, both in community and the world a foundation inSouth Africa and around the world. 10. 10. Critical ThinkingGaming is a highly controversial topic, and hasbeen for many years. There are many theoriesthat gaming can reduce learning, develop anti- social behaviors and habits, as well as violent behavior as well. Though we are gamers, that perception errs the vision we have for the community. With the work we strive to do for thecommunity, it is imperative that our jobs are todevelop ways to encourage gaming in the most positive way possible so that parents aren’tdiscouraged by our efforts and the kids can feel more secure in their surroundings.
  11. 11. Critical Thinking To confidently provide what the children need in hospitals so that they will be in good spirits during their time there. Working with the nurses and doctors to maximize the chances for fun environment for the kids versus an unwelcome one.The opportunity for children to have a fun environment in the hospital will serve as an undergird for many generations to come that are afraid of the hospitals now.
  12. 12. Corporate Sponsor RankingChild’s Play has three levels of sponsorship: silver, gold, and platinum. These sponsorships run for 12 months, starting in November of each year. Each includes ahome page logo placement with link. We are a registered 501(c)(3) non-profit, and arealways happy to participate in corporate gift
  13. 13. Why It Matters To Me Gaming has always been a part of my life. It brought my family together for fun game nights, and it brought me to meet amazing people throughout the different communities. The gaming communities I am involved with host events to support players that struggle withcancer, or other diseases to be supportive. It is a family of friends that are passionate about something that is meant to be fun and bring people together.
  14. 14. How To Get InvolvedFor hospitals:1. We create a “Wish List” for your hospital at one of the major online retailers (such as Amazon.com).2. We (and other game/tech sites) drive traffic to this Wish List.3. Generous gamers from all over the world buy items off the list, which are shipped from the retailer directly to your hospital.
  15. 15. How To Get InvolvedFor everyone:• View gamers play your favorite games or any game on their livestreams and donate to win prizes through them, or donate directly on our website!
  16. 16. Another Way To Get InvolvedIf you’ve discovered something new and want to share your passion for video games and supporting the charity, we encourage you to create your own livestream account through Twitch.tv and start streaming! We will gladly add you to our calendar of events as you host your very own charity livestream.
