  2. 3. What is a Wiki? <ul><li>Wiki comes from the Hawaiian word for “Fast” </li></ul><ul><li>Reinvented to mean “ W hat I K now I s” </li></ul>
  3. 4. Development of first Wiki <ul><li>Ward Cunningham developed the first Wiki software, WikiWikiWeb in 1995. </li></ul><ul><li>“ The simplest online database that could possibly work” - Ward Cunningham </li></ul>

Our Support Wiki <ul><li>Our Wiki software is called Confluence. </li></ul><ul><li>Developed by Atlassian, an Australian company. </li></ul><ul><li>Atlassian specialises in collaboration and development tools. </li></ul><ul><li>They also developed our JIRA issue tracking software. </li></ul>

Structure of Confluence <ul><li>A Confluence Wiki is made up of spaces. </li></ul><ul><li>Spaces are areas into which content items (pages, attachments, news etc.) based on any theme or topic of choice can be organised and shared. </li></ul><ul><li>The WebCT Support Wiki is just one of the spaces. e.g. Mac Users space, TFL team space </li></ul><ul><li>Spaces can be set to public or private. </li></ul>
  7. 8. WebCT Support Space <ul><li>The support space is a repository of solutions to common WebCT problems. </li></ul><ul><li>Used by our helpdesk staff and ISD. </li></ul><ul><li>Publically available to all students and staff. </li></ul>

  9. 10. The Updated Wiki <ul><li>The Wiki was available from 2009 but needed updated. </li></ul><ul><li>Usability tests began January 2010. </li></ul><ul><li>Students and staff took part. </li></ul><ul><li>Feedback dictated design of new WebCT Support Wiki. </li></ul>

  13. 14. Adaptivist Theme Builder <ul><li>The Theme Builder plugin for Confluence was developed by a company called Adaptivist. </li></ul><ul><li>Allows complete customisation and redesign of Confluence wiki spaces. </li></ul><ul><li>Possible to match Wiki design to faculty site design </li></ul>
