What is an archetype?<br />
An ideal model upon which all others are based<br />
A universal pattern that occurs in cultures around the world.<br />
Archetypal Heroes <br />
What do they have in common?<br />
Unusual circumstances surround birth<br />
Separated from home or family<br />
Unsure of their purpose<br />
Home isolated or more humble than birthright<br />
Feels different or isolated from peers<br />
Coming of Age: Refusal followed by acceptance<br />
The hero goes on a journey<br />
A life-changing event <br />leads to the journey<br />
The journey can be physical, spiritual or philosophical<br />
The journey results in the hero finding their purpose<br />
Every hero has a weakness or flaw<br />
The hero must prove themselves<br />
The Unhealable Wound<br />
The hero encounters evil and suffers<br />
Special Weapon<br />
Can only be wielded by the hero<br />
The hero can use it differently than others<br />
Is a character who possesses some of these qualities a hero?<br />
Yes; sometimes heroes only have some of these qualities<br />
