chapter one Introduction TWO MAJOR INSTITUTIONS of the contemporary world are ingreat need of reform – the government of United States of Americaand the Roman Catholic Church. They are certainly not the onlyones. Many other governments, religions, business corporations, organizations, and social groups could also benefit from a healthyregimen of change. However, if the world’s sole superpower and theRoman Catholic Church were to set an example by adopting muchneeded reforms many other institutions would probably follow suitand we would all enjoy a better, safer, more harmonious world. If we can agree that changes are necessary, we must ask, who is goingto bring about these needed reforms? Do we look to established politi-cians to straighten out the problems of the United States? Do we turn tonoted theologians to design necessary changes for Catholic Christians?Should committees be set up to study the situations in America and theChristian world, then issue reports that can be acted on by the properauthorities of both the political and religious realms? Q. Who will bring about the necessary reforms? A. The American people. Q. How will they do this? A. By the ballot box. Q. When will they do this? A. On Election Day, 2012. Let us begin with the reform of the American Federal Govern-ment. The reform of the Roman Catholic Church will be addressedin Part II of this book.
chapter two The Situation IN ORDER TO REFORM the U.S. government, we must firstunderstand ‘the nature of the beast’. Fresh from a bloody, hard-fought and historic revolutionary war, George Washington and theother Founding Fathers struggled and compromised to bequeathto us a governing system of checks and balances that has provento be a wonderful dynamic by which to govern a nation. Theselearned and idealistic patriots set up a government with two com-peting branches, the Executive and the Legislative, with a thirdbranch, the Judicial, acting as a referee. With few exceptions, thegenius document known as the Constitution of the United States ofAmerica has served the citizens of our great nation well. By allow-ing the citizenry to rule by the ballot box, our Constitution gives usa perfect way to change our government when we disagree with thedirection our current leaders are taking us. There is another major dynamic that affects the governing of theUSA; the two-party system. Actually, at any one time, there may bemore than two political parties, but historically, only two of themhave been large enough to be effective. Currently those two pre-vailing parties are called the Democratic Party and the RepublicanParty. When one political party controls the Presidency and both hous-es of Congress, the governing dynamic is different than when oneparty holds the Presidency and the other party controls one or bothhouses of Congress. In either case, both parties ‘play politics’, thatis, they consistently try to diminish the other party by opposinglegislation and ideas proposed by the other party. When this hap-pens, America suffers.
Me for President and Pope 3 It is no secret that America is currently suffering. Millions of ourcitizens are far worse off than they were ten years ago. Due to cir-cumstances far beyond their control, many ‘Baby Boomers’ havegone bust. To state it bluntly, the established system has not servedour people well. And how could it? It is rife with entrenched cor-ruption, cronyism and nepotism which can be laid at the feet ofboth political parties. I repeat - both political parties It doesn’t matter which party is in control, bad things happen:unwanted wars that sap the public treasury; a gridlocked legislativeprocess that can’t get anything of value accomplished; and govern-ment spending that is so far out of control that it will take either amiracle or a very able and independent captain at the helm of theship of state to straighten out the situation. How do we get such a captain as head of state? How do we gethonorable and intelligent men and women who will enact new andnecessary legislation into the elected offices? We elect them. If weare to regain control of our government and our lives, we mustsimply stop voting for those candidates which the political partiesare offering us. We must simply stop giving power to the politi-cal parties. The two American political parties are at the heart ofthe mess we are in. We must find a way to diminish their hold onpower. In truth, we must take that power away from them. Theyare not going to give it up willingly. Those of us who wish for a newand better America must come together and finally say ‘No’ to thecurrent two party system. We must say ‘No’ to both Republicansand Democrats. How do we say ‘No’ to the Democrats and Republicans? Findindependent candidates who are known and respected in your areaand get them to run. Or run yourself. Independent men and wom-en should run for every elected office, whether at the local, stateor federal level. Every independent candidate who wins will showothers it is possible and every independent candidate who loses willgain experience and friends for the next campaign.
Chapter Three My Campaign AS I BELIEVE THAT I have the solutions to many of the prob-lems we face as a nation and because I have the courage of myconvictions to fight for these solutions, I am running for Presidentof the United States. It will not be a typical campaign. It will not bea typical Presidency. I want to be the President; yet, I am not running for President, atleast not in the normal sense. There will be: No committee-to-elect Jeff Siggins No campaign organization No fundraisers or telemarketers No TV or radio advertisements No bumper stickers No political hacks giving me advice In fact, my name will not appear on the ballot in any state. Q. How can Jeff Siggins possibly win the Presidency if he doesn’trun a normal political campaign? A. By intelligence, imagination, hard work and honesty. Q. How can Jeff Siggins win the 2012 presidential election if heis not on the ballot in any state? A. Write-in votes. Q. Can a write-in campaign win? A. Of course. This is America, land of opportunity. Look at the
Me for President and Pope 13election of Lisa Murkowski for U.S. Senator of Alaska in 2010. Shewon with only write-in votes. That’s right, fellow citizens, a write-in campaign. It’s really easy.In the area on the ballot where you vote for President, check thebox marked ‘other’ and then write in the name, Jeff Siggins. Ooooh, a write-in campaign! Won’t that be fun? Let’s all getinvolved in write-in campaigns, for the local, state and federal elec-tions of 2012. Run yourself and/or get local independent peopleto run with write-in candidacies for state and local elective offices. And support my campaign for President by mentioning me in yourcampaign materials. It is herein publicly stated to all Boards of Elections of the vari-ous states and to all Secretaries of States of these United States ofAmerica that all write-in votes cast for Jeff Siggins are votes for theJeffrey Patrick Siggins who was born in Warren, Pennsylvania onSeptember 22, 1943 and are legally and rightfully claimed by himas the author of this book. I truly believe that the American people want something otherthan politics as usual. I think voters want the opportunity to votefor someone who is not a puppet of special interest groups. I alsobelieve voters want leaders who will be honest with them. Honesty leads to trust. Let’s face it. Do you want either your doc-tor or your car mechanic to lie to you? I don’t. I want to hear thetruth. I think you do, too. So don’t you also want the truth fromyour President? Of course you do. Political campaigns have objectives, things they want to accom-plish. For most campaigns, the objective is simple - win! My campaign has five basic objectives. They are:1. To take back control of our lives from those who have wrested it away from us; the ever more powerful insurance companies, the highly-paid and corrupting lobbyists, the fear-mongering media, the lawyer/lawmaker coalition and the two entrenched political parties.
14 Jeff Siggins2. To defeat the pervasive political influence of special interest groups, especially those who have coalesced into that most ominous of institutions that President Eisenhower warned us about more than fifty years ago, the military-industrial complex.3. To guide us back to the path of nobility from which we have strayed. Righteousness will restore our national honor and help us regain the respect of the international community.4. To lead our citizens on a quest for continual self-improvement and advanced learning, thus guaranteeing that our great na- tion will continue to thrive and prosper.5. To win! Yes, my objective is to win! There are two major political parties in America, the Demo-crats and the Republicans. For the 2012 presidential elections,it is projected that each party’s candidate will spend will spendmore than one billion dollars to get elected. One billion dollars! Each! Wow! Each of the two parties has tens of millions registered membersmany of whom donate money and/or work on the campaign. Bothparties have fundraisers and ‘fat cat’ contributors who will funnelmillions of dollars to the candidates. It is with these large campaigndonations that special interest groups and wealthy individuals buythe votes of the politicians they help to elect. The Democrats and Republicans also have the benefit of tradi-tion. Most people simply vote for the same party they have alwaysvoted for. These are the people who have endangered America. These are the people who vote the party line and keep these scala-wags in office. If you believe that America is headed in the rightdirection, then vote for the candidates of the party of your choice.Yet if you believe that America is headed in the wrong direction, please consider my proposition and vote for me, the candidate whois not beholden to anyone but the voters. Because of their advantages, defeating the candidates of the ma-jor parties will be extremely difficult, yet not impossible. I have
Me for President and Pope 15three sources of power that can, if managed properly, bring successto this unique presidential campaign. They are: 1. The power of an idea whose Time has come I sense people want change. I have looked at our nation’sstrengths and weaknesses and I have formulated a plan for leadingwith our strengths and strengthening our weaknesses. Taking thepower of the Presidency away from both political parties is the firstof the necessary changes that will strengthen our nation. 2. The power of people working for Their own self-inTeresTs All people have to do is realize that what I am presenting in thisbook is for their benefit and I will have the necessary people powerto win the election. 3. The power of mulTiplicaTion The success of my campaign relies in large part on the power ofmultiplication as it relates to this book, Me for President and Pope.If 1000 people who buy and read my book will each buy 5 morecopies to give to friends, asking the friends to continue the chain bybuying 5 copies for their friends, and so on down the line, it onlytakes 7 generations to have almost 98 million people who own acopy of the book and who hopefully will vote for me. It can happenand will happen if enough people want it to happen. This is definitely a ‘people power’ campaign. I am presenting atrue alternative to politics as usual. My job is to get the message outand if my message resonates with enough people, these people willbe the ones to cause this campaign to succeed. I hope you are one ofthese people. If you are, get the word out. Talk about my campaign,my candidacy. There is no greater method of spreading the wordabout something than by word-of-mouth. Word-of-mouth is likea prairie fire racing across the land. So I ask you, please, buy thebook, read the book, and talk with people about the book. If you dothis, the politics of America can be forever changed.
16 Jeff Siggins Q. How different is my campaign for President? A. I’m offering to put both America and the Catholic Church back on the right paths. Do any of the other candidates make that offer? The Jeff Siggins for President Campaign begins with the publica-tion and release of Me for President and Pope. As with most bookreleases, a publicity campaign will begin, hopefully with nationalmedia exposure and a promotional tour of bookstores for auto-graph sessions and conversations with the readers. I would like to take an extended tour to bookstores all overAmerica. I need to meet and talk with the American people. I needto learn from them. I need to see how they feel about my ideas. Ineed to hear their ideas, your ideas. After the initial media blitz, I am hoping to cause enough of astir so that I will be invited to appear on TV and radio shows in thecities where I am appearing at bookstore autograph sessions. I alsohope to do interviews with local newspaper reporters and magazinewriters. My campaign needs publicity. I want to get the word out. I havelots to say that isn’t in the book and I will need to explain andclarify things that are in the book. Thus I hope that the media folkswill contact me at my publisher’s e-mail to set up interviews. (email@example.com) After the initial book tour, I will do a lecture tour that will allowpeople to tell me their needs and beliefs and question me about mybeliefs and policies. Anyone who wishes to book my lecture, pleasecontact me through the publisher’s e-mail. (firstname.lastname@example.org) My dear readers, I need your help. Nobody knows everything. No one is always right. Everybody makes mistakes. I need to listento the American people if I am to be a great President. I need to hearwhat people want and need so that I can shape my policies to fitthose wants and needs. After all, I am not doing this for me; I amdoing this for us. Imagine an independent President who belongs to no political
Me for President and Pope 17party and whose cabinet is made up of members of both partiesas well as other political independents. An independent Presidentwith such a cabinet could suggest legislation that isn’t based on par-ty philosophies or party strategies, but rather is based on commonsense and the need for remedial change. An independent Presidentcould reduce the need by members of both parties to ‘play politics’. Now hear this! Now hear this! If I am elected President, I cat-egorically state right now, I will not seek re-election. In fact, I willnot even serve a full four year term. I will serve one year and thenI will resign, turn over the Presidency to the Vice President andwith the help of the U.S. military, I will become the Pope of theRoman Catholic Church. It is as Pope that I will be able to solvethe institutional problems that currently and historically plague theCatholic Church. These matters will be covered in the second partof this book. This brings us to the single most important aspect of my cam-paign for the Presidency – the selection of the Vice President. As Ihave stated in the previous paragraph, if I am elected President, Iwill serve for only one year. This means that the person who is VicePresident will serve for three years. Therefore, the choice of VicePresident will be as important as the choice for President; indeed, even more so. And this is why I will ask the voters of the UnitedStates to make this choice. Here is how this will work. I will nominate five candidates for Vice President. They will ex-tend to both sides of the political spectrum. They will all be well-known, successful people, capable of fulfilling the duties and re-sponsibilities of the U.S. Presidency. The voters who wish to votefor one of these candidates will first write in Jeff Siggins for Presi-dent and then write in the name of their choice for Vice President. IfI am elected to be the President, the Vice Presidential nominee withthe most votes will become the Vice President. For me, and I hope for you, the most important aspect of havingan opportunity to vote for people who are not formally running forthe offices of President and Vice President is that if those people areelected, they have not sold themselves out to special interest groupsor to those individuals who make very large campaign contribu-
18 Jeff Sigginstions. They are thus free from the quid pro quo influence of thosegroups or individuals. And as they have been elected without theassistance of a political party, they are able to act independently, without the influence of party leaders or fat cat contributors. Let me clearly state at this time, I have yet made no contact withany people that I will nominate for Vice President. I don’t evenknow who they will be. I have some good ideas, but I need to askthe American people who they want for their President. I will dothat as I travel around America promoting my book and my candi-dacy. Then on Columbus Day, October 12, 2012, I will announcethe names of the five candidates for Vice President via Facebook,my website and the press. I am announcing the names of the five nominees for Vice Presi-dent at such a late time in the campaign for several reasons. A. Thenames I present will be so familiar that voters won’t need a largeamount of time to become knowledgeable about them. B. I hopethe limited time between announcement and election will persuadethe five candidates I nominate for Vice President to refrain fromcampaigning. C. Because there are only about three weeks betweenthe announcement of the nominees for Vice President and the elec-tion, the Democrats and Republicans won’t have very much timeto rev up their attack machines against the independent nominees.D. It brings more mystery and drama to my campaign; to me thatmeans more fun. Chapter Four Governing THE PRESIDENT OF the United States is not a king. A kingrules, a President merely governs. A king has great power, a Presi-dent has limited power. For this we can thank George Washing-ton. As the first American President, he resisted amassing too muchpower in the Presidency. Because I will resign the Presidency after one year, I want the
Me for President and Pope 19Vice President to get used to the reins of power. Therefore, from thevery first days of my Presidency, including the transition period, the Vice President will carry out many duties usually performed bythe President. One such duty will be to chair cabinet meetings. I, as President, will be a participant, but the Vice President will chair the meetings, present the agenda and call on the various cabinet members duringdiscussions and for reports. As President I will always make the finaldecision, but always with the input and advice of the Vice President. The Vice President will be present for intelligence briefings andpolicy discussions. As my Vice President will definitely be takingover the Office of the President, he or she should know what isgoing on at all times. Having a full year as Vice President has an-other benefit; it provides a much longer period of time for the VicePresident to develop policies and personnel for his or her own ad-ministration. The usual situation is that the President has only theTransition Period (from early November until January 20) to forman administration and its governing policies. If I am elected, myVice President will have a much better chance of developing his orher own policies because they will be formed by a more intimateknowledge of current events and on classified information that isnot available to candidates before the election is held. For many Presidents, the main attribute they want in a cabinetmember is loyalty. To me, loyalty is far down the list of virtues. Iwant competence. I want ability. I want ‘the best and the brightest’.I want the members of my cabinet to debate each proposal vigor-ously. I want to see all sides of a situation or problem, not just geta re-affirmation of my point of view. I despise yes-men, sycophantsand brownnosers. I want to hear all sides first, and then I will makethe final decision; yet always with the counsel of the Vice President. I will suggest much legislation to Congress. I will do whatever Ican to get that legislation passed. My proposals will come from thepages of this book. I believe the American people and their electedofficials should know in advance what a Presidential candidate willdo once that person is in office. I so very dearly wish to work in har-mony with the members of Congress. I feel it is very important to
20 Jeff Siggins Jeff Sigginshave cooperation between the Legislative and Executive branchesso that the remedial changes can be made that will benefit Americaand Americans. When working with the Congress, I will go the extra mile. I willhold out my hand in friendship and partnership. I will consult withthe appropriate committees when making appointments. I will, topave the way for smooth and rapid passage, ask for advice whiledrafting legislation. I will be available for consultation and foremergency needs of constituents. However, if I do not get the cooperation of the Senators andRepresentatives, woe be unto them. As one can see from this book,I have been given the gift of imagination. I will use my imaginationto apply pressure on those legislators who do not do their duty asrepresentatives of their constituents and who instead work for spe-cial interest groups or for their political party. And I must give another word of warning to my compatriotsin the Congress. Because my goal is to reduce the Federal budget byat least ten per cent, I simply will not tolerate the abuses known asearmarks and pork barrel projects. Bills that are sent to the WhiteHouse that contain pork and earmarks will be vetoed and sentback. I do not need a line-item veto. The Supreme Court has right-fully called line item vetoes illegal as they infringe on Congressionalauthority as stated in the U.S. Constitution. Therefore I will vetothe entire bill and I will publicly state why. I will name the culpritswho try to pad the budget by name. I will do this in the cause forresponsible government. In order to show the voters what they will do when their candi-dates are elected, political parties provide the electorate with lists ofideas and programs that they promise to carry out if they are elect-ed. These lists are called ‘party platforms’. One troubling aspect ofcurrent political life in America is that these party platforms arealmost always forgotten by those who ran on them. If I am electedto be the President of the United States, I will do everything in mypower to achieve the platform on which I am running. ChaptersFive through Twenty-three of this book present the changes andreforms that I want to achieve during my short tenure in office.
Me for President and Pope 21These aforementioned chapters form the platform on which I amrunning. The ideas contained in these chapters will be the basis ofmy legislative agenda. Chapter Five Foreign Policy MY FELLOW AMERICANS, I must speak candidly. We have lostthe respect of the citizens of others nations. In fact, it goes beyondmere loss of respect. Many people in the world have great contemptfor us. This is not good. It bodes ill for our future as a nation. Of course, some of this contempt comes from the fact that theUSA is the sole remaining superpower. It’s easy to despise the richand powerful. Yet I believe much of the contempt for America comesfrom the perception that we Americans have become arrogant, self-serving bullies. The invasion of Iraq by the George W. Bush Admin-istration, regrettably, cemented this opinion in the minds of manypeople around the world, even some here in America. So what do we do about it? To be honest, fixing this problemwon’t be easy. While it is rather easy to lose respect, it is difficult toregain once it is lost. It will take hard work, dedication and well-designed policies to get America back to a position where people inthe world respect us again. If I am elected President, much of my time and effort will bespent restoring this lost respect. One of my first acts will be a speechat the United Nations that will be entitled “We Are Not an Empire.”The rhetoric of the speech will quickly be followed by the swiftremoval of American troops from overseas bases. Included in my United Nations’ speech will be two slogans thathopefully will explain the changes in American foreign policy – “Anew day, a new way” and “We just want to be friends.” The first slogan declares forcefully that from this point on, thingsare going to be different, while the second slogan presents the heart
22 Jeff Sigginsof the new American foreign policy. I am one who believes thatbecause America is a multi-racial, multi-cultural democracy, as wellas an economic and military superpower, we can be the most influ-ential force for world peace. The actions that follow this rhetoric may shock conservativesworldwide, yet I believe it will change the world for the better. Bypresidential decree, all existing trade sanctions and political sanc-tions will be dropped and face-to-face bilateral talks will be offeredto every government in the world. These include Cuba, Iran, Syria,North Korea, Venezuela, everyone. In the world of carrot and stick diplomacy, this will be an era ofcarrots. This, however, does not mean that the United States will begiving away large sums of money to other governments or groupswithin foreign nations like we did during the Cold War. No, no, no!What it does mean is that the interests of all nations will be put onthe table for discussion and negotiation. The message that the Siggins Administration will send forth isthat the world has become too small and too interconnected to con-tinue on as before. All nations have their own national interestsand goals and these must be respected and, if possible, achieved. My administration will sincerely and energetically strive to make allnegotiations win-win outcomes for those involved. To accomplish this, many new policies will be initiated at the tra-ditional international forum, the United Nations. New ideas fromall quarters will be looked at and voted on, especially those relatedto tension-relieving, global trade, women’s issues, the environment, international crime, minority rights, national security, the internet, and human rights. Permit me to explain more about my “We-just-want-to-be-friends” policy. It is not complicated. It simply declares that everynation in the world can now look to have friendly relations withthe planet’s only superpower if that is what they desire. I will open-ly invite the heads of all governments to meet with me to discussmatters of interest. My administration will be open to any and allsuggestions that will hopefully improve our relationships and thelives of our citizens. Friends talk to each other candidly. Friends say
Me for President and Pope 23what they feel. This is currently missing in most government-to-government relationships. My administration will promote candorand openness between governments. However, there will be problems for those who do not wish to beour friends if they attempt to do harm to either the United States or toany declared friend of the United States. We will not sit idly by and al-low bad things to happen to us. This is when we unleash our unrivaledmilitary might with what I refer to as “The Terrible Swift Sword.” No,do not make the mistake in thinking that our proffer of friendship is asign of weakness. It isn’t. It simply changes us from a bully who alwayswants its own way to a friend who is there in a time of need. And if those who are our friends behave badly, they cannot ex-pect our support. They will be asked about their actions and, ifnecessary, be taken to task. .And lastly, if any country has ambitions to become another su-perpower, to you I say “Forget about it.” We are the superpower. We don’t need another one. A return to a Cold War is not going tohappen. Put away those thoughts right now. Chapter Six Defense Policy THE ARMED FORCES of the United States of America comprisethe greatest, most powerful military might ever assembled on thisEarth. They are the backbone of our body politic. Without thisamazing amalgamation of men, women, transport and weaponry, the USA would not be the world’s only superpower. We Americansowe our military personnel a great debt of gratitude. This being said, our military must be prepared for big changes. These changes will be based on the fact that our defense policy im-plements our foreign policy and it is changes in our foreign policythat will dictate the changes in our military strategy. As stated in the previous chapter, soon after assuming the presi-
24 Jeff Sigginsdency, I will travel to the United Nations in New York City to speakto the assembled members. I will present our new foreign policy ina speech whose theme is drawn from the speech’s title – “We AreNot an Empire.” It is my belief that many of the problems that we currently faceare caused by the perception that the United States wants to rule theworld. I do not believe that Americans desire this, but I do know thatmany people in other countries hold this belief. One of the contribut-ing factors to this perception is the large numbers of American troopsstationed on bases in various countries, i.e., Germany, Japan, SouthKorea, Saudi Arabia, Iraq, Afghanistan, Pakistan, Kuwait, etc. Manyof these bases have been staffed by American forces since World WarII. Others were set up during the Cold War, while a few are fairlyrecent, especially those in Muslim nations. Now I know that there are many people who think that havingforeign bases makes us stronger. I disagree. I believe that stationingAmerican troops overseas actually weakens us. My reasons for thisbelief are:1. Overseas bases provide targets for those who wish to chal- lenge us.2. They are a drain on our treasury. Maintaining overseas bases is a very costly proposition.3. Misbehaving military personnel create enmity with the local citizenry.4. Ask yourself the question –“How would I feel if a foreign pow- er stationed troops in the United States?” In a strange way, our overseas troops are almost hostages thatcause us to bend to the wishes of the host nations. When consider-ing a military action, we have to factor the host country’s wishesinto the equation. Therefore, as Commander-in-Chief, I will order the timely returnof all American military personnel and equipment to the UnitedStates with the exception of a few undisclosed strategic locationsand as guards for all overseas embassies and consulates. Once back
Me for President and Pope 25on American soil, our armed forces will prepare for a new typeof military operation, rapid deployment. This new type of militarystrategy which I have entitled, “The Terrible Swift Sword”, will bestructured to allow us to inflict enormous damage in a very shortresponse time on anyone, be they nation or group, if they attack usor our friends. And to the terrorists of the world, I give a special word of warn-ing. I will fight terrorism much differently than previous adminis-trations. If you attack Americans or American property, either inAmerica or overseas, be prepared to lose your entire family, yourentire clan or tribe and your entire support system. I remember a conversation with a member of the American in-telligence community during the wave of kidnappings in Lebanonduring the 1970’s. Several Americans had been taken hostage andthe American government seemed absolutely powerless to do any-thing about it. Then a Russian was kidnapped, yet in a few days wasreleased, unharmed. My spy friend told me that the Russians haddelivered a shoebox to the kidnappers. In the shoebox were bodyparts of some of the kidnappers’ family members. Yes, this is harsh, but also effective. It is Realpolitik, of which I am a believer. So, ter-rorists, be warned and beware; especially suicide bombers. One further policy that will involve our military personnel willbe the use of retiring generals and admirals as ambassadors to for-eign countries and Executive branch troubleshooters and envoys. Chapter Seven Economic Policy IT HAS BEEN SAID THAT “The business of America is busi-ness.” Need proof? America has less than 5% of the planet’s humanpopulation, yet has about 22% of the economic activity. Yes, we’redoing very well, yet I want us to do better, especially in the area ofinternational commerce. We need to be selling more things to thepeople of other countries.
26 Jeff Siggins To achieve this, we must cease inflicting damage on ourselves byimposing trade sanctions on other countries for political reasons. This allows other nations to move in and take our potential marketsaway from us. Oh, oh! I can just hear the howl from South Florida now. “Tradewith Fidel and Raul Castro? Are you out of your mind? We willstop you!” Sorry, ex-pat Cubans. We should trade with Cuba, Castros orno Castros. It is time. Our trade sanctions have done nothing butcause pain, not to Fidel and Raul, but to the Cuban people and toAmerican business. So, bye-bye, sanctions! What about Iran? What about Syria? North Korea? Yes, them, too. It’s time to send our sales personnel and trade representativesto these countries to begin negotiating trade contracts. Simply be-cause some people label these nations “the evil empire” doesn’tmake it true. Besides, we do much better with others when we en-gage them, instead of calling them names and ostracizing them. So,corporate sales managers, start getting your sales forces learningArabic, Farsi, Korean and Spanish, because if I’m elected, things aregoing to change, big time. Of course, this also means that we must return to an era wheremuch of what we manufacture is made right here in the UnitedStates. One reason for our economic woes is the fact that there arefew manufacturing jobs in the USA. American jobs are necessaryfor a healthy American economy. Therefore I wish to see the re-industrialization of America. We need jobs for people willing towork. We need to have certain products made here at home, forboth security and bottom line financial purposes. These productsshould be identified and then American industrialists can set upthese businesses with generous incentives from the Federal, Stateand Local Governments. One of my first pieces of legislation that I send to the Congresswill be a bill that gives benefits to American companies that investin job-producing manufacturing facilities in America and converse-ly, will tax American companies that send jobs abroad. Another major change for Americans will be in the area of govern-
Me for President and Pope 27ment spending. Liberals, Moderates and Conservatives take note. Iwish to usher in a new age. I call it “the Age of Frugality.” Workingwith the Congress and a team of axe-wielding accountants, I wantto trim the spending of the United States government by a doubledigit percentage. It can be done and I have the will to do it. I hopethe American people will put pressure on the Senators and Repre-sentative to help carry out this budget trimming program. One way that I will reduce the budget of our government is toget rid of several departments and cabinet positions. Number Oneon my hit list is the Department of Homeland Security. I sincerelywant to know whose idea it was to develop that travesty of govern-mental responsibility. What I can’t get over is why the Departmentof Defense didn’t scream and stomp about that one. If our admiralsand generals can’t provide security for our homeland, we have toget some new admirals and generals. Personally speaking, I havecomplete faith that our military can defend our country, thereforewe will say farewell to the Department of Homeland Security. There are other departments that will either be dismantled orincorporated into other departments. I will speak about which onesas my campaign progresses. I will not touch Social Security, but I do wish to offer up a fewideas that I believe should be incorporated into the Social SecuritySystem. I will send legislation to the Congress accordingly. On the revenue side, I want major changes, so major that thisproposal is the most radical and pragmatic of all my reform propos-als. It concerns our income tax code. I want to simplify it, simplifyit beyond belief. And to make it simple, I want to dispose of themajor bugaboo that creates most of the problems and most of thescalawags – deductions. Oh, yes, folks, the mischief-makers lovedeductions. It is with deductions that the rich and powerful skateoff without paying anywhere near their fair share of taxes. I would like to say a few words directly to the rich people ofAmerica. You are fortunate. Through your skills, intelligence, hardwork or family you grabbed the golden ring called wealth. Howwonderful! I am very happy for you. Wealth is a very good thing. It helps stabilize society. It acts as an
28 Jeff Sigginsinsurance policy against future travails. It provides status. Wealth allowsus to lead lives on a comfort level never even imagined by ancient kings. However, when a wealthy American spends a great deal of re-sources (i.e. time, money, effort) to escape paying taxes to our gov-ernment via the IRS, I thinks that’s a bit unpatriotic, don’t you? Without this great engine of finance called the American Econ-omy, none of us could reap financial rewards. We must keep it go-ing. We can’t just take from it. We have to give some back so that itworks even better. That’s what taxes do. Taxes help create resources(i.e. roads, water systems, bridges, airports, electricity) from whichwe all benefit. If you don’t pay your fair share, you hurt the machin-ery. So, please, pay your fair share of taxes, and for Heaven’s sake, stop squealing about it. Instead, consider yourself a hero. By payinglots of money in taxes, you strengthen America. I love America, soto me you’re a hero. Please understand; the numbers I present below are not the num-bers that will be the final rates. I need the Government AccountingOffice to crunch all the data to see what the numbers should be.These are just to show what they might be. The important thingsabout these rates are fourfold.1.They must raise the necessary revenue to pay the bills of our government.2. Everyone must pay some taxes.3. Taxes should not be a burden to anyone.4. There are absolutely no deductions. None. Once we start de- ducting for anything, we go down the slippery slope to our downfall. Here is a sample tax rate chart based on a person’s annual in-come. As I said before, it is not the final one. The final rates must beset by Congress and the Government Accounting Office specialists. For the first $1 to $10,000 pay 1% For the next $10,001 to $25,000 pay 3% “ ““ $25,001 to $50,000 pay 5%
Me for President and Pope 29 “ ““ $50,001 to $100,000 pay 10% “ ““ $100,001 to $250,000 pay 15% “ ““ $250,001 to $500,000 pay 20% Over $500,000 pay 25% And remember, no deductions! Not for mortgage interest, not forchildren, not for charitable deductions. No deductions. I know this is a radical proposal, so let the debate begin. Chapter Eight Intelligence Reform NO MATTER HOW effective intelligence gathering technologybecomes, it cannot reduce the importance of on-the-ground humanassets – in other words – spies. For anyone who does not understandthis fact of life, I urge you to read the 2400 year old Chinese classic,The Art of War. Its author, Sun Tzu, presents a very succinct de-scription of the various types of spies and their responsibilities. Theintelligence gathering necessities and methods presented in The Artof War are as applicable today as they were over two millennia ago. A Jeff Siggins Administration will immediately begin a programto improve the American intelligence community’s recruitment andtraining of human assets. We will especially focus on recruitingpeople who speak, are learning or are willing to learn the Farsi,Urdu, Arabic, Chinese, Russian or Korean languages. Especiallynecessary will be polymaths who are willing to put themselves inforeign countries. So, attention! Anyone who wants to be a JamesBond or Mata Hari, America needs you! In several of our intelligence agencies I also wish to establishworking groups made up of veteran spies, analysts and behavioralpsychologists whose job will be to sit in a room together and play agame called “What Are They Up To?” They will have access to trans-lated real time data as well as the authority to debrief field agentsand agency analysts. Mid-week these groups will meet together to
30 Jeff Sigginsplay a grand version of the game, each group in turn presentingtheir findings so that connections can be exposed and analyzed. And in the game “What Are They Up To?” who are ‘They’? Our en-emies, of course, both real and potential. Chapter Nine Energy Policy IT IS CLEAR THAT WE are sending too much of our treasure toforeign and often unfriendly nations to provide us with oil. We mustcease doing this. We must learn to become more energy self-sufficient. My administration will immediately begin construction of windfarms, geothermal power generation and solar plants in all appro-priate locations and the electricity from these plants will be usedby government facilities, thus reducing the government’s relianceon public power and freeing up more electricity for private sectorconsumers, whether they be businesses or individuals. Tax incentives and low cost government loans will also be usedto promote hybrid vehicles and the production of fuels made fromrenewable agricultural products such as sugarcane and switch grass.Research and development of new technologies such as tidal power, heat transfer and small-scale power producing projects will be fund-ed. In the latter category, imagine health clubs and gyms with station-ary bicycles that generate power when pedaled by people who wishto exercise. Their exercise will not only help their bodies and theirminds, but will also supply electricity for the gym or health club. As many have said before, “We don’t have an energy crisis, wehave an intelligence crisis.” Let us make policies that will inspireour citizens to create new energy sources that will reduce our needfor foreign oil. Let us promote the invention and production oftechnologies that will allow our citizens to own and control theirown sources of energy for their homes. Let us work together toachieve energy independence.
Me for President and Pope Chapter Ten Environmental Policy BECAUSE I DO NOT or will not take money from corporationsand special interest groups, I can have an environmental policy thatwill actually protect the environment. I can also take on Congress, holding their feet to the fire of public opinion, because I will havethe moral high ground and the support of people who rightfully de-sire clean air and water. When enacting environmental legislation, not taking campaign donations means freedom from corrupting in-fluences and in a Siggins Administration, the only folks who willnot benefit are the polluters. Well, actually they will also benefit asthey too breathe air and drink water. I also believe that businesses who pollute, in the long run, willsave money, because their workers will be healthier, thus savinghealth care expenditures and increasing production. There are five areas of environmental policy in which I will take aspecial interest: air quality, water quality, toxic waste disposal, forestmanagement, and global warming. My air quality policies will focus on three basic areas – industrialemissions, auto emissions and urban vegetation. In my administration, industrial polluters will face stiff penaltiesas well as public exposure and ridicule. I believe that if more in-formation about who is doing the polluting gets out to people, thepolluters will want to “clean up their act.” Electric cars and hybrid vehicles are the future and the sooner weget to have access to them, the better off everyone will be. It is myhope that urban centers will be providing parking meters that willgive electric vehicles a recharge while parked in spaces exclusivelyreserved for them.
32 Jeff Siggins Humans and other animals breathe oxygen and emit carbon di-oxide. The same is true of internal combustion engines. Plants, onthe other hand, breathe carbon dioxide and emit oxygen. It seemslogical to me that if there are more plants in an area, there will bemore oxygen. It is my hope that city governments will promoteurban vegetation. This includes street level trees, roof top gardens, and ivy-covered buildings. These may help in the fight against glob-al warming because plants also absorb the heat that would normallyreflect off of buildings. This might even reduce the need for air-conditioning and thus save electricity as well. We all know the importance of water. Without it, we die. Myadministration will therefore make improving water quality a toppriority. Included in our water policies will be conservation of wet-lands and estuaries, research and development of more efficient fil-tration and desalinization technologies, multi-usage of water andlegal action against polluters. A part of improving water supplies will be the handling and dis-posal of toxic waste. Personally, I see toxic waste as a resource, notjust something to throw away. Research into taking toxic chemi-cal by-products and changing then into useful chemical productsshould be funded. The same is true of garbage. I believe garbage canbe a resource. We simply need to find new ways to make it useful. I was raised in the forests of northwestern Pennsylvania. I am alover of trees. However, I know that trees, like all living organisms, die. As wood and wood products are essential to our lives, I believethat forest management should include culling out older trees whilethey are still useful, then replanting new tree seedlings to take theirplace. I am also a proponent of clear cutting swaths through for-ests, especially in the Western part of America, as a deterrent to thespread of forest fires. The time to cut the trees down is before thefires begin burning. In this way we can save thousands of acres oftrees at the sacrifice of a few acres. Global warming is a reality. We must begin dealing with it. TheKyoto Accord is a good beginning. I will adopt it as a template fordealing with the warming of our planet. The effects of global warm-ing were in evidence in the summer of 2005. Katrina and other
Me for President and Pope 33hurricanes are the results of global warming. The year 2010 was thehottest year in the history of recorded temperatures on our planet. As mankind has contributed to the warming of our planet, we canalso contribute to the reversal of the trend towards higher tempera-tures. Scientists and engineers must make solving this problem atop priority. The destruction of New Orleans and the Gulf Coastshould not be repeated elsewhere. Chapter Eleven Healthcare Policy I WISH TO CHALLENGE the premise that employers shouldbe financially responsible for the health care costs of their employ-ees. In a former era, when the United States was the only countrywith large scale industries, this may have made sense. Now thereare many countries that are challenging our automobile, appliance, electronics, furniture, textile and other industries. Most of thesecountries have national health plans that relieve their industries ofthe costly responsibility of insuring workers and American indus-tries that pay for workers health care costs have found themselvesat a competitive disadvantage. I also wish to challenge the premise that insurance companiesshould be part of the American health care system. Health careshould be about doctors, nurses and patients. Do you realize thatwhen insurance companies are part of the health care system, thehealth care system must pay for the salaries and benefits packagesof all the employees of insurance companies as well as the divi-dends and profits the company pays to the shareholders? And youwonder why health care in America is so expensive. Thirdly, I wish to challenge the premise that lawyers should, inany way, be part of the American health care system. It is a knownfact that there are doctors who practice ‘defensive medicine’, which
34 Jeff Sigginsmeans that they do extra and often unnecessary tests, simply toprotect themselves in case of a malpractice lawsuit brought by a pa-tient and a lawyer. Naturally, extra tests cost money and the patient, employer or insurer must pay for them. The health care system thatI present will remove the lawyers from the doctors’ offices. Lastly, I wish to challenge the premise that health care should bea profit-making business. I believe that doctors, nurses and medi-cal technicians should be well paid for their services, but where isit cast in stone that people should become rich on the misery andsuffering of others? In fact, just the opposite is true. In the words ofour most cherished and beloved document, the Constitution of theUnited States of America, the government shall “promote the gener-al welfare.” Right there it is, folks, written by the Founding Fathersthemselves. The government shall promote the general welfare. Thequestion is, “How should it do that?” Here is my plan. I will, as President, propose legislation that will set up a nation-wide federally-funded institution I call the National Health Service. It will be up to the House of Representatives and the Senate to passthis proposed legislation. If they pass it in both Houses and it comesto me in the form that I proposed it, I will sign the bill and it willbecome the law of the land. If they send it to me in an adulteratedform, which includes things I do not wish included, (i.e. participa-tion of insurance companies, health maintenance organizations andlawyers) I will veto it, send it back to them and the battle will begin. Of course, many Senators and Representatives take large cam-paign donations from insurance companies and other health carespecial interests and they will fight like hell to defeat my plan. I be-lieve the American people are so fed up with the current system thatI will have both right and might on my side. Let the battle begin! The legislation that I submit to the Congress will call for a two-tier health plan. One tier will be for those people who are satisfiedwith their current health care situation. The second tier will be forthose who wish something new and different, by name, the Na-tional Health Service, or N.H.S. Although the National Health Service will be established imme-diately after the legislation and initial funding bills are passed and
Me for President and Pope 35signed, it will take several years to get the system into place andfully operational. Like most good things, it will need to evolve. As doctors, nurses and other medical personnel are the backboneof the N.H.S., the first step will be to recruit them. Setting them upwith clinics will be the next step. Studies will be conducted to findthe best locations to begin the N.H.S., ‘best’ meaning most needed.Once clinics are set up and staffed, the doors will be open to all whowish low cost medical treatment. Doctors, nurses and other medical workers will be paid yearlysalaries. They will be good salaries. One major benefit of workingfor the N.H.S. will be that doctors will not have to pay for medi-cal malpractice insurance. The government will insure the doctor. After all, if the license comes from the government, the insuranceshould also. Actually, I am seeking as part of the legislative package that setsup the N.H.S., a proviso that states that if you use the services ofthe government’s health care system, the N.H.S., you cannot takethe doctor or the government to court and sue for medical malprac-tice. You will be allowed to submit a claim to a panel of judges anddoctors for binding arbitration and if the doctor who treated you isfound guilty of medical malfeasance, a settlement will be paid. Law-yers will not be allowed to represent claimants, although a friend orfamily member can. If a doctor is found to have acted carelessly or wrongfully, thepanel can recommend one of four decisions for the doctor. •Retraining in the procedure that caused the problem. •Suspension of license and re-education. •A monetary fine. •Loss of license to practice medicine. Part of the legislation submitted to the Congress to establishthe N.H.S. will deal with the current responsibilities of employ-ers to their employees. Employers cannot merely drop all healthcare costs for their employees immediately after the N.H.S. is es-tablished. They will have to live up to their contractual agreements,
36 Jeff Sigginsespecially if the benefits’ packages were negotiated through the pro-cess of collective bargaining. This being said, it is the wish of this candidate that businesseswill soon be relieved of their responsibilities of paying for work-ers’ health care, so methods of changing from employer paid careto government care must be an important part of any legislativepackage that is passed and signed into law. I ask for the help of allCEO’s and small business owners in this country to help me in thisquest to level the playing fields for their companies by removingthe enormous health care costs with which I feel they have beenunfairly burdened. One of the primary goals of the N.H.S. will be to reduce theamount of paperwork that a doctor must deal with. Doctors shouldbe treating patients, not filling out myriads of forms. Naturally, doctors should be required to maintain medical records of all thepeople they have treated, but that is all. Treatment of patients should be the concern of the doctor andthe patient. If the doctor feels that a certain treatment or test is nec-essary, it should be done. It shouldn’t require the okay of someonein an office far away from the health clinic. Please notice that throughout this chapter I refer to health careand not medicine or medical care. A primary purpose of the N.H.S.is to promote good health (Remember the U.S. Constitution’s ad-monition “promote the general welfare.”) The goals of the doctorsand nurses and other personnel should be to get the citizens ofAmerican back to good health and keep them in that condition.Medicine can and should play a role in that, but natural healthshould be the ideal sought by both patients and doctors. In accordance with this philosophy, doctors will be able to pre-scribe treatment in one of the four special types of treatment cen-ters, which I like to refer to as ‘agricultural health farms’. Patientswill live and work in the health-restoring gardens of these healthfarms, each one of which will focus on treating one of four ‘self-inflicted’ health problems – obesity (food abuse), tobacco abuse, alcohol abuse and drug abuse. The National Health Service will be established to provide low
Me for President and Pope 37cost health care to all Americans who wish to use it. There is oneservice, however, that the N.H.S. will not provide; the use of so-called life-sustaining machines. If people wish to be put on thesemachines or have their loved ones placed on them, they will haveto go to the first tier health care system. To me, affordable health care is a right. We are a rich nation. Wealready spend a large amount of money on the health care needs ofour citizens, but we spend this money badly and instead of going todoctors, nurses and health care workers, much of the money goesto insurance companies, their employees and their shareholders. Please look closely at the health care plans of all the candidatesin this election, and if you do, I believe that you will give me yourvote because my health care plan makes the most sense and savesyou more of your hard-earned dollars. I believe this is particularlytrue for employers, especially small businesses. I find it most unfairthat the burden of health care for those who work for you shouldfall on your shoulders. Help me get elected and I will remove thatburden. Buy copies of this book. Give them to your workers, yourfamily and your friends. Spread the word. There is a righteous andfair health care plan being offered. Let’s elect the person who hasdesigned it. Vote for Jeff Siggins. Chapter Twelve Education Policy WITH A FEW EXCEPTIONS, it is my belief that the federalgovernment of the United States should have little to do with theeducation of its citizens, young or old. To me, education policiesbelong to the individual states and to the parents of children. Espe-cially loathsome to me are the unfunded mandates that lawmakersat the federal level impose on schools at the state and local levels. My exceptions to federal involvement in education are the pro-tection of rights of special needs students, Pell Grants and Title
38 Jeff SigginsNine. For those who are unfamiliar with these; Pell Grants givemoney to needy foreign and American students to help them payfor college and Title Nine declares that schools must provide equalopportunities for men’s and women’s sports programs. I am especially opposed to federal academic standards and na-tional exams to measure the students and schools to see if theyachieve those standards. This leads to teachers teaching for theexam instead of teaching the subject. It also leads to cheating byboth teachers and administrators who do not wish to be penalizedfor not achieving federally set goals. Besides, we already have a na-tional exam. It’s called the SAT. To get the federal government off the backs of state and localschool authorities, I will by legislative action attempt to remove theSecretary of Education from the cabinet and merge the Departmentof Education into another governmental department, thus creatingthe Department of Labor and Education. This is where it rightfullybelongs. Education should prepare us for life and work is an essen-tial part of life. If the Labor Department and the Education Depart-ment work more closely together, schools can better prepare theirstudents for the workplace. Please do not think that I demean teachers by making this move. The opposite is true. I wish to give teachers more autonomy in theirclassrooms. By reducing federal oversight and the paperwork thataccompanies it, teachers will have more time to teach. I know thisbecause I have been a licensed teacher. As President, I will set high standards for American students and Iwill personally fight to help teachers achieve these high standards fortheir students. How will I do this? I will show by example that learn-ing is best accomplished when it is fun. That’s right! I want schoolsand classes to be fun. I not only want students to discover the funof learning, I want all Americans to discover the joys of learning. Weshould all continue to learn, right up until we take our last breath. Ifwe do, our nation will continue to lead the world in innovation andprogress. And if we don’t, we are destined to be overtaken by nationswho understand the principle of lifelong learning.
Me for President and Pope Chapter Thirteen Science and Technology Policy FOR MUCH OF the 20th Century, the United States was on theleading edge of scientific progress. Shamefully, this is changing. Some of this loss in position is, of course, other nation’s scientistssimply catching up with American scientists. Some of our loss ofprestige, however, is self-inflicted. I attribute our diminishing statusin the realm of science to three causes.1. Insufficient and badly prioritized investment.2. The decline of the quantity and quality of math and science teachers in our public schools.3. The intrusion of religionists. Scientific research is expensive. We have gone far beyond the costof beakers and Bunsen burners to equip laboratories. As we now evenconduct research on other planets, the cost of accumulating knowledgehas skyrocketed. But accumulating knowledge is extremely valuable ifwe are to progress as a nation and as a species. Extremely valuable. Yet let’s be realistic. The pockets of American taxpayers are not sodeep that we can fund every research project that is proposed. Wemust and do prioritize. However, we all know that much too oftenour money is spent on research projects that are either spurious orlaughably silly, even to other scientists. When news of these proj-ects reaches the taxpaying public, there is more than grumbling, there is hostility towards the scientific community. Therefore, as President, I will install a triage-type process in thefederal funding of science projects. Those who wish to have theirresearch funded must show that there is some intrinsic value to
40 Jeff Sigginseither science or society. Pork barrel projects are as insidious in therealm of science as they are in the realm of politics. One place where we do need to spend more money is in publicschools that are specifically dedicated to the teaching of math andscience. Math and science classrooms must become the front line inour battle to re-establish America’s exalted position in science, theposition that is being challenged by China, India, Japan and the E.U. Another way we can improve our math and science teaching is toget real pros into the classrooms, people who are either retired or cur-rently working in math or science. Working with the Congress, I willhope to enact legislation that will allow any retired mathematicianor scientist to teach their specialty without jeopardizing their hard-earned pensions. Do you have math or science skills? Do you knowsomeone who does? Do you have time to contribute to the educationof our youth? Will you? Please. What we don’t need in our math and science classrooms is reli-gion. Intelligent Design and Creationism have no place there. I askChristian evangelicals to remember the words of Jesus, the wordsthat are the theme of this book, “Render to Caesar that which isCaesar’s, render to God that which is God’s.” Public schools are in the realm of government. America’s Con-stitution stresses the separation of church and state as did Jesus. Please obey both Jesus and the U.S. Constitution. Keep religionout of public schools. Religions belong in churches, temples andmosques. Stop trying to intrude in public school classrooms. Youare hurting our nation. The same is true of religious interference into medical researchsuch as embryonic stem cells. Please understand. God provides uswith minds. Those minds are to be used to help people. We helppeople by curing diseases. It is possible that some of man’s mostdebilitating diseases can be helped by the use of embryonic stemcells, just as God designed it.
Chapter Fourteen Veterans Affairs THE GALLANT MEN and women who serve in our armed forc-es often have problems stemming from their time in the military. These can include battle wounds, training injuries, diseases, stressand other psychological problems. I wish to commend the work of the fine doctors, nurses, medicaltechnicians, therapists and other hospital staff members who providecare for our recuperating veterans. They are skilled and dedicatedcaregivers. I would, however, like to add a new dimension to the care thatwill not only be of benefit to American veterans, but to the medicalcommunity and foreign policy of the USA as well. My plan involvesthe island nation of the Philippines. With the permission and bless-ing of the Philippines’ government, the United States could con-struct and maintain a full-service hospital and veterans’ residenceon a remote island beach. This state-of-the-art medical facility willserve two basic functions:A. The pleasant seaside environment will aid the recuperation of our veterans.B. This hospital will serve as a training and licensing facility for Philippine nurses who will be destined to work in American hospitals, senior citizens homes and other medical facilities to help with the long term shortage of nurses here in our country. This is a win-win situation for all involved. The Philippine gov-ernment will receive annual revenue from the leased property. The
42 Jeff SigginsPhilippine nurses will be trained and licensed for American hospi-tal procedures and employment. The veterans will have access toexcellent care, the beach, the ocean and a pleasant tropical environ-ment. The American military will have a first-class medical facilityin Asia and the American taxpayers will save money without sacri-ficing the quality of care for their loved ones. I would also like to suggest that veterans in veterans’ hospitalsare an underutilized resource. Let us use our imaginations and cre-ate job opportunities for the men and women who need daily medi-cal care, yet are also capable and desirous of contributing to bothsociety and the American economy. So put on your thinking caps, fellow citizens. Let’s find ways toemploy the veterans who would like to be employed, yet because ofmedical care, need to remain at a veteran facility. Just to get the ballrolling, let me offer a few jobs the veterans might do.• Tutors to school students who need extra help. (Students could be bused in.)• Telemarketers for non-profit organizations.• Telephone pollsters for political parties.• Appliance repairmen for governmental offices. (Remember, many veterans are highly trained technicians.) If I am elected President, my Veterans’ Administration will set upa website for suggestions for utilizing veterans and for employers tooffer jobs to veterans who wish to work. Chapter Fifteen The Arts I AM CALLING ON the artists of America, the painters, sculp-tors, potters, writers, poets, singers, dancers, actors, filmmakers,
Me for President and Pope 43musicians, weavers, designers, photographers, and other creativepeople to inaugurate a Neo-Renaissance. We have been living ina time of darkness and it is time to return to the light. I challengethe artists of America to help lead the way. Let us say good-bye toMe Generation art and bring forth a We Generation art. Let each ofus seek higher values and then manifest these values in our artisticendeavors. Let us put aside the cynicism that has grown rampantbecause of the hypocrisy and fear-mongering of our leaders andshine forth with a new optimism, a radiance from which our citi-zens can learn and grow. Let the artists of America show us the way.And let’s make America the fun place to be. Let’s have people com-ing to America from all over the world just for the simple reasonthat it’s the fun place to be. American artists can make that happen,so let’s go for it. Early in my presidency I will send legislation to the Congressthat will propose the establishment of three federal arts colonies. They will be funded through the National Endowment for the Artsand will be located on decommissioned military bases that havebeen closed down by way of the BRAC (Base Realignment and Clo-sures) procedures. The purpose of these federal arts colonies will be to supply art-ists with inexpensive living quarters and studio space as well as theinspiration and camaraderie of other creative people. There will beonsite galleries and performance centers for the exhibition of artsto the public. Each art colony will partially fund itself through thegallery’s commission fees from art sales and admission tickets of theperformances. Private donations, supplemental federal funding andrent revenues will make up the balance. Besides studios, galleries, performance halls and living spaces, there will be dining areas, recreational facilities, supply stores, parks and gardens where vegetables and fruits can be grown. Artists will apply formally for residency at an arts colony and thelength of stay for each artist will be limited to a five year period. Thepurpose of the arts colony is to give struggling artists an inexpen-sive place to develop and grow. It is not to be a place of long termresidency.
Jeff Siggins Chapter Sixteen Laws, Rules and Regulations WE ARE DROWNING in a sea of laws, rules and regulations.Something must be done about it and soon. In my time as Presi-dent, I will attack this problem with both vigor and tenacity. And Iwill call on the American people to help. During the so-called transition period, that time between beingelected and taking the oath of office, I will order three websites tobe set up. One will be for laws, one for rules and one for regula-tions. As soon as they are operational, I will broadcast their webaddresses to the American people. From that moment on, peoplecan identify and submit those laws, rules and regulations that nega-tively affect their businesses and their lives. My administration will monitor these websites and begin thejob of removing those laws, rules and regulations that are inflictingdamage or hardship on people and/or their businesses. Now let’s face it, many of these laws, rules and regulations arenecessary. Otherwise I would make a blanket proclamation and getrid of all of those that would be in my power to get rid of. That iswhy I will need the help of American citizens. We must work to-gether to identify the truly bad ones, those that actually need to bechanged or taken off the books. There are, of course, Constitutional jurisdictions to be con-sidered. Those rules and regulations that are made by ExecutiveBranch agencies, I can and will do something about. Laws are a different matter, however. They are enacted by theLegislative Branch. The President cannot by fiat get rid of eitherstate or federal laws enacted by legislatures. The President can, however, with the help of the American people, put pressure on
Me for President and Pope 45the Senators and Representatives to change or get rid of bad laws. Simplifying laws would also be a good thing. Imagine if the lawson the books read: It is illegal to kill. It is illegal to steal. It is illegal to rape. Betrayal of the public trust is a capital offense. Of course, the main reason the laws are written in such compli-cated forms is that they are written by lawyers. If they were simple, people wouldn’t need as many lawyers, because the people wouldunderstand them. I will do my best to reduce both the numbers ofand influence of lawyers. Chapter Seventeen Vices, Crimes and Punishments JUST TO MAKE IT perfectly clear, I am now and always will bea firm believer in the Second Amendment of our Bill of Rights – theright for a citizen to bear arms. This being said, I also believe that anyone who commits a crimeusing a firearm should be charged with a federal crime as it is afederal law that allows citizens to possess firearms. I will send legis-lation to the Congress to that effect. Attached to that legislation will be a proposal to build a newfederal prison for those who are convicted of a crime committedwith a firearm. That prison should be constructed in the wilds ofAlaska, in the harshest of environments. There should be no TVs,no radios, no gyms, no amenities whatsoever; it should be a placeof punishment, harsh, cold and uncomfortable. When word gets
46 Jeff Sigginsout, I believe this will act as a deterrent to crimes committed withfirearms. Members of gangs that commit federal crimes should alsobe incarcerated in this prison. I will also send a piece of legislation to Congress that proposesthat betrayal of the public trust by government employees shouldbe a federal crime. Violators should receive a lengthy prison sen-tence. As Senators and Representatives are government employees, this will be very difficult to get passed, but I will have fun trying. Now hear this! Now hear this! Early in my administration I willissue a blanket pardon to all those American men and women whoare in prison for possession or sale of marijuana. Shortly after theannouncement of this general pardon, I will send legislation to Con-gress asking for the legalization of this ubiquitous and harmless plant. I am old enough to remember when hemp (the English word formarijuana) was a valuable agricultural commodity. Hemp was usedto make rope, sailcloth and other textiles and for birdseed. I alsoknow the legal history of the prohibition of hemp and it is shame-ful. It was made illegal to give a powerful J. Edgar Hoover-typenamed Harry Anslinger a job. As for the legalization of all drugs, sorry, I am against that. Mari-juana is not a drug, it is a plant. Yet I do believe that drug problemsare health problems, not criminal ones. Therefore I will inaugu-rate drug colonies, places where people who take drugs can go toget help with their drug problem. However, if drug takers commitcrimes of theft or deception or violent crimes, then they are crimi-nals and should enter the criminal justice system. Chapter Eighteen Tort Reform THE WONDERFUL AMERICAN movie “Forrest Gump” pres-ents the simple, yet profound philosophical tenet, “Stupid is as stu-pid does.” If this is true and it is also true that most Americans havea low regard for lawyers, I have to ask these questions. “Why do
Me for President and Pope 47you keep electing lawyers to Congress? What are you? Stupid?” I believe that many Americans agree with me when I say thatthere are too many lawyers in America and that many of the prob-lems we face in this country stem from this overabundance of at-torneys-at-law. Lawsuits are one of the main problems we face from lawyers. Wehave become the most litigious society in the world. Suing someonehas become the answer to many problems. Q. - Why do people sueother people? A.- Because lawyers advise them to. Just the threat of a suit can be enough to get money from a per-son or business. It is often referred to as ‘settling out of court’. Itshould be labeled for what it is - extortion. There is an excellent way to stop this travesty; simply enact a lawthat states that if a plaintiff in a tort suit loses, he or she must paythe legal expenses of the defendant. Yet perhaps the main problem is that far too many Senators andRepresentatives are lawyers. Let’s use some common sense. Let’slook at our own Senators and Representatives and if they are law-yers, let’s vote them out of office. That’s the smart thing to do. Solet’s do it. Then and only then will we be able to get laws passed thatwill remove lawyers from the legislative process and get sensible, understandable laws enacted. Chapter Nineteen Unfunded Mandates THE FEDERAL GOVERNMENT as personified by the Executiveand Legislative Branches and yes, even the Judicial Branch, mustsimply stop dictating to the individual states when it comes to lawsthat forcibly cause these states to spend state revenues to carry outthe federally enacted laws. These are known as ‘unfunded man-dates’ and to me they are a form of taxation without representation. They should be forbidden. If the Senators and Representatives at the federal level want the
48 Jeff Sigginsstates to carry out their legislative wishes, they should provide themonies to do so. I will therefore ask the Congress to pass a law for-bidding unfunded mandates. Chapter Twenty Courthouse Displays I PERSONALLY WOULD like to see the Ten Commandmentsput on display in every courthouse in America. After all, they repre-sent one of the earliest codifications of laws. However, because theyhave been deemed religious, not historical, the federal courts haveseen fit to deny their presence in American courthouses. I would like to suggest a solution. Let the Congress pass a lawthat allows courthouses to display, as a group, four examples ofhistorical legal codes; the Ten Commandments, Hammurabi’s Laws, the Magna Carta and the U.S. Constitution. Chapter Twenty-one Federal Shield Laws IN A DEMOCRACY, the people rule. America is a democracy. Yetfor the people to rule wisely and well, we need information. Thegathering and dissemination of information is the responsibility ofreporters and editors of newspapers, TV, radio, magazines, and theinternet. These people are the eyes and ears of our society and theymust be free to do their jobs. To do their jobs well, they must dig for information and oftenthis requires talking to people who do not wish their identities tobe known. This requires the source of the information to trust thereporter before he or she will provide that information. Protecting the sources of information is one of the responsibili-
Me for President and Pope 49ties of all journalists. It is as sacred a relationship as doctor/patientand lawyer/client. Yet in recent years, reporters have had to go to jail to protect theirsources. Prosecutors and judges have seen fit to use jail time as botha threat and a punishment to reporters for not revealing the sourceof certain information. A federal shield law is the antidote to this abuse of judicial power. Iwill ask the Congress of the United States to pass a comprehensive federalshield law that will forever protect reporters from having to make the uglychoice of revealing a source or going to jail. It is not just the reporter andthe source that benefit from such a law, all will Americans benefit as well. Chapter Twenty-two Immigration Policy EVERY COUNTRY in the world deserves the right to maintain animmigration policy that forbids citizens from other countries to en-ter that nation illegally. In the past, America has been very lax aboutthis. This must cease. It is time to get tough on illegal immigrants. On the other hand, there are many jobs in America that Ameri-cans don’t seem to want to do. Thus it is imperative for us to allowforeign workers into our country. The solution to these conflictingneeds is to inaugurate a guest worker program that fulfills the needsof the American businesses for foreign workers, while at the sametime maintaining the integrity of the immigration system. At the current time people from most foreign nations need visasto enter America. There are many types of visas. This is good. Whatis not good is that when a person from a foreign country overstayshis or her visa, there are no immediate actions taken by the UnitedStates Government agencies responsible for maintaining our im-migration laws. This must change and one of the first bills that Iwill send to the Congress will address these matters of illegal im-migration. Some of the bill will focus on overstaying visas, someon companies who knowingly hire illegal aliens and some on the
50 Jeff Sigginspunishments and fines that will be levied against those who breakour immigration laws. Businesses who need to hire new employeeswill have two very good pieces of identification they can use whenhiring a worker; an ID that proves American citizenship or a visafrom the US Government. As for those who are already here illegally and have set up homesand businesses, there will be no amnesty for you. You broke ourlaws and must suffer the consequences of that fact. If you wish tobecome an American citizen, there are ways to do this, but you donot get to go to the head of the line to achieve citizenship Most importantly, the Congress of the United States must ful-fill their duties and obligations to the rightful citizens of our greatnation and pass immigration legislation that will be both compre-hensive and far-reaching. Also, the Executive Branch must enforcethose laws with more efficiency and effectiveness. Chapter Twenty-three Employment Policy HAVING A JOB is a very important aspect of life. A job not onlyprovides money to live on, it provides self-esteem, self-worth and so-cial approval. When the national unemployment rate climbs past sevenper cent, America is in a crisis state. This being said, if I am electedPresident, a Siggins Administration will reinstitute the Civilian Conser-vation Corps and put Americans back to work. Unlike the mostly ruralCCC camps of the Great Depression, the modern CCC will primar-ily focus on clearing urban decay and on the construction of housingfor the urban poor and the homeless. The funds to pay for this pro-gram will come from the Federal stimulus coffers and will repaid fromthe rentals charged for living in the newly-constructed or remodeleddwellings. Other projects of the modern CCC will be urban publicparks and suburban and rural infrastructure such as drainage systems, bridges and underground power grids.
Me for President and Pope 51 We must put Americans back to work. The American economydepends on it. We must also try to get manufacturing jobs back in theUSA and legislation should be passed to stimulate American businessto invest in America-based companies that will provide employmentfor our citizens. We must stop shipping our manufacturing jobs over-seas. It hurts our economy and diminishes the lives of Americans. Chapter Twenty-four My Political Philosophy WHEN I WAS TWELVE years I visited my aunt and uncle at theVirginia Military Institute where he, Lt. Col. Henry C. Kerlin, wasthe Commandant of Cadets, the Professor of Military Science andTactics and the highest ranking U.S. military officer on the post.I loved being at V.M.I. so much that I asked my aunt and uncleif I could stay there with them. Having no children of their ownand since we loved each other very much, they thought it wouldbe a great idea. I was enrolled in sixth grade at the William HenryRuffner Elementary School and began my new life in Lexington,Virginia. One of the first people I came to know at V.M. I. was Col. RobertP. Carroll, the Head of the Biology Department. He introduced meto one of my life-long passions, archeology, as well as many otherscholarly pursuits. His office was one of the most interesting envi-ronments I had ever known as it was filled with biological speci-mens in bottles, jars and display cases, Amerindian artifacts, stuffedbirds and animals, and a wonderful collection of fossils. It also hada cut-out from a New Yorker magazine on the wall to which Col.Carroll would point whenever I came to his office after being emo-tionally or physically hurt by someone. It was a comic drawing ofa man scrunched up in a box. He had a scowl on his face and thecaption in quotes underneath had him saying, “People are no damngood.” I would nod my head in agreement with the sentiment of
52 Jeff Sigginsthe cartoon and feel much better instantly. The thing is I never re-ally believed it. I did and do think people are good, at least mostpeople. Yes, there are bad people in the world, yet for the most part,I believe most people are innately good. In fact, I can truthfully saywithout hesitation; I love people. Because I love people, I wish to serve their best interests. Ibelieve that what I have incorporated into the text of this bookproves my willingness to engage in this public service. I believe thatif you carefully read this book that you can see that I have put muchthought into the ideas expressed herein. I also believe that you canunderstand that I am not looking for personal power, but only forthe power to make the changes that need to be made to improve theworld. Then I will go back to being a ‘regular citizen.’ This is my philosophy. Help people. Serve people. Love people. These are the reasons I am stepping into the arena of politics; to helpand serve people. The Greek word for people is polloi. It is fromthis word that we get the English word ‘politics.’ We also get thewords ‘polite’, ‘policy’, ‘police’ and ‘polity.’ All these words are aboutpeople: we the people; government of the people, for the people, bythe people. This is what I am fighting for. This is why I am runningfor President. I wish to help all the people, not just the people of onepolitical party, all people. Yet I need your help to do this. So I ask youin all sincerity; help me help you. Vote for me by writing in my name,Jeff Siggins, for President of the United States in the election of 2012. And what kind of President will the American people get if I amelected? To be candid, I’m an actor. In the1970’s, I basically quitacting in plays, TV and movies and began to take jobs ‘in the realworld’, yet I always looked at the job as an actor does and I wouldcreate a character that I thought would best suit the needs of thatparticular job. In other words, I would ‘play the part’ of a WallStreet clerk, a hotel night auditor, an archeologist, a tour guide, auniversity professor, whatever. Thus, if I am elected President ofthe United States, I will create a President that is: a serious, hard-working, yet fun administrator; an honest, energetic, imaginative andinspiring leader for all Americans; a congenial, dedicated and willingco-worker to the Senators and Representatives in Congress; an open
Me for President and Pope 53and understanding partner to our friends in other countries; and onetough son-of-a-bitch to those who choose to be our enemies. Chapter Twenty-fIve Biographical Information AS IT IS IMPORTANT for people to know who their elective of-ficials are, especially those who seek the office of President of theUnited States, I include some biographical material. I’m a really bright guy. My last measured IQ was 164. In myyouth, “Seek and ye shall find” was to me a very important pieceof wisdom. I have spent most of my life seeking and I can say withassurance that I have definitely found what I was looking for – thepurpose of our existence. In fact, I can honestly say that I knowhow the cosmos works. I know the purpose of life. I am a country boy from a northwestern Pennsylvania farm whois very much at home in cities. I have an unbelievably vast rangeof experience. I have had over 600 different jobs that include:actor(Broadway, Off-Broadway, summer theatre, movies, commer-cials and TV, including a recurring role on The Patty Duke Show),director, producer, writer, photographer, carpenter, furniture mak-er, mason, detective, tour guide, designer and builder of pleasuregardens, disc jockey, lecturer, hotel desk clerk, stock boy at Mont-gomery Wards, clerk in a Wall Street brokerage, market researcher, data collector for the RAND Corporation, medical investigator forJohns Hopkins University School of Medicine, U.S. Census enu-merator, teacher in six different countries, and Visiting Professor ofEnglish at two different Chinese universities. I am the creator of theTranquility Calendar, a calendar system based on the Moon Land-ing which will be very useful once space travel becomes common.Folks, I’ve done a lot of stuff. I have had incredible mentors in my life: General George C.
54 Jeff SigginsMarshall, Col. Robert P. Carroll, Buster Keaton, George C. Scott,Aaron Rolland-Jones, Jim Moran, and Herb Kohl (the educator, notthe politician). I also served as an apprentice for two summers in asummer theatre outside of Buffalo, New York. I have been in fires, floods, earthquakes, hurricanes, tornadosand dust storms. I have been shot at, stabbed, and viciously beaten.I have known pain and suffering. I am widely traveled. I have been in 49 of the 50 U.S. states, all of the states of Mexico and more than thirty other countries. Ihave lived and worked in several foreign countries including Canada,Mexico, Guatemala, Turkey, Kazakhstan, the Philippines, and China. I communicate well. My training as an actor and my super-largevocabulary are the contributing factors, I’m sure. I have always been extremely interested in politics, but alwaysas an independent, never as a member of a political party. I am notbeholden to any special interest group. I am a fighter. I love a gooddebate. I love to jump into the fray, especially when I see the twothings that really set me off – a woman being physically abused bya man and any injustice, anywhere, anytime. Chapter Twenty-six Admonition I WILL NOT SEEK and will not accept any monetary contribu-tions for my campaign. As I am not a publicly declared candidate,it would be illegal for me to do so. It would be fraud. Likewise, if anyone solicits money for my campaign, that personis committing fraud. If anyone asks for money in the name of mycampaign or me personally, have that person arrested and chargedwith fraud. That person is not part of my campaign. I am running for President as a write-in candidate. My namewill appear on no ballot. If some individual or group tries to getmy name on a state or local ballot, they are doing so against my
Me for President and Pope 55wishes and without my permission. You should have these peoplearrested on charges of fraud, because they are acting contrary to mycampaign strategy. If you wish to be a supporter of the Jeff Siggins for PresidentCampaign, please, please, please, I beg you; follow the directions Ihave laid out in the book. Do not think you are doing my campaigna favor by acting otherwise. You are not. Anyone who takes out TV,radio, newspaper, magazine or internet ads in the name of my cam-paign is a mischief maker and I will seek legal recourse against theperson or group who does so. Again, they are doing so without mypermission and against my wishes. My fellow Americans, I am running a campaign that is far differ-ent from the campaigns of all other politicians. I am anxious to seeif the American people want a different kind of political candidate.I believe that a large percentage of the electorate is fed up with poli-tics as usual and will appreciate someone who uses imagination andsincerity to run for the highest office in the land. That being said, I need your help. How do you help? By talkingto everyone you know. By talking to everyone you meet. Get theminterested in my campaign. In place of a campaign contribution ofmoney, buy copies of this book and give them to your friends andacquaintances. Ask them to read the book and if they are sympatheticto our cause, ask them to buy copies of this book and give them totheir friends and acquaintances. This is the way we will win. There are other things you can do. Use your imagination. Createposters and banners that support my candidacy and show them atDemocratic and Republican political rallies. Get on television. Getyour picture in the papers. But, please, do not protest the othercandidates. Do not even mention the other candidates by name.Have fun. Create excitement. Have a big party in the streets. Playmusical instruments. Sing and dance. But do not destroy property. We are a constructive movement, not a destructive movement. Wewant to help people, not hurt their property. Respect people whohave different opinions. Try to change those opinions, but if youcan’t, honor other people’s right to their opinions. It is especiallyimportant to convince people that voting for candidates of the two
56 Jeff Sigginspolitical parties is doing damage to our country. Convince themthat America needs a break from either a Democrat or a Republicanin the Oval Office. Display an American flag. Cherish that flag. Your ancestors mayhave died for that flag, so cherish it. Give honor to our flag and tothe people who have fought for it. Speak kindly to police officers, firemen and soldiers. Tell themif Jeff Siggins is elected President that police officers, firemen, andsoldiers will be honored as heroes. This goes for teachers and librar-ians as well. I want a Presidency that is positive in all ways. Therefore, if youwish to help, please be positive. Don’t try to help my campaign bytrying to destroy the other candidates. That is not the way I want towin. Respect all people. Respect all life. Respect the rights of others.Think of it this way – we are the good guys. Thus, we must act likegood guys. This is the way we will win. And remember, by voting for Jeff Siggins as a write-in candi-date for President, you get to vote for one of the five people I havenominated to be Vice-President for a year and then President forthree years. To me, this ability to choose someone of great meritthat the two political parties will not have as their nominees is themost valuable aspect of the plan I have put forth in these pages.Instead of it merely being a matter of voting for the lesser of twoevils, Americans can vote for someone they really want to be theirPresident.
Me for President and Pope part two God
Chapter Twenty-seven Background WHAT IF JESUS CHRIST comes to Earth tomorrow? He saidhe would return, right? What if he comes tomorrow? How do youthink he’ll feel about the religion that bears his name? How will hefeel about people who call themselves Christians? Personally, I imagine that he is probably sad about the state ofChristianity, because let’s be honest, folks, it’s a mess. Christianityhas been a chaotic mess for centuries, and although the wars andkillings between Protestants and Catholics have for the most partceased, the Christian churches still face tremendous problems. Hotbutton issues such as gay marriage, abortion, embryonic stem re-search, Creationism, hypocritical clergy, and church involvementin partisan politics are turning church members against each other, forcing congregational splits at local, national and even internation-al levels. And, of course, we must not forget the sexual abuses ofyoung children by Catholic priests that have recently been exposed;not just America, but in Ireland, Brazil and Belgium as well. Even defining Christianity has problems. When I ask peopleto define Christianity, I get almost no answers that are the same. Many people use the word religion in their definition and yet noone thinks of Christianity itself as a religion. One friend thinks that Christianity stopped being a religion a longtime ago and instead has become “a competitive conglomeration ofrevenue-generating organizations, all claiming some attachment toJesus Christ.” That is a rather harsh criticism, yet perhaps accurate. I remember a young girl on television saying, “Christianity iswhen you go to church instead of temple.” I like that. It’s fun. Yet itis a long way from a comprehensive definition. As stated at the beginning of this book, I believe the originalinstitution of Christianity, the Roman Catholic Church, is in serious
60 Jeff Sigginstrouble. It needs and deserves a serious plan of action to repair it.I have designed such a plan. It is a relatively simple plan, easy tounderstand and not difficult to implement. And hopefully, if myplan works, every Catholic and each and every Christian of everyProtestant sect will realize that the inauguration of a New Christian-ity will enhance his or her spiritual life. Yet before I present my plan, I feel for clarity’s sake that it’s im-portant to have a bit of background about the two leading charac-ters in this drama – Jesus and his Father, God. Let’s begin with God. God is a spirit being who lives in a materialbody that encompasses everything there is, everything there was andeverything there will be. God is big. You can’t get bigger than God. Yet God gets even bigger. He constantly continues to grow. Howdoes He do this? By creating new universes. Universes are the build-ing blocks of the magnificent living edifice that is the material bodyof God, Our Father, and universes are where God creates His mostprecious of created entities – mortal beings on inhabitable planets. Actually, God does not personally create universes. He createssomeone to do that for Him. Each universe is the product of a Cre-ator Son or, by name, Michael. Each Michael, too, is a gloriousspirit being. Creator Sons are those of whom it is said, “If you haveseen the Son, you have seen the Father.” A very long time ago, our universe’s Creator Son was given alarge tract of empty space and a third stage spiral nebulae to supplymaterial for suns, planets, moons, etc. With the aid of a large staff ofcelestial beings, our Michael filled the void with solar systems andsupervised the implanting of life on planets which were deemedpromising. Over time, millions of planets thrived and pulsatedwith life forms of an almost infinite variety. Now God the Father is very wise. He gives His Creator Sons fullcontrol over their universes, yet He holds back supreme authority. That must be earned by a most interesting method. God requireseach Creator Son to live the lives of seven different types of beings ofthe universe the Creator Son designed and brought into existence. And so, a little over a billion years ago, our Michael handed overhis duties and authority and went out into his vast universe to live
Me for President and Pope 61the life of a resident of his realm, that of a Melchizedek Son. Overone hundred years later, enriched by having experienced a life fardifferent from his own, Michael returned to his headquarters andresumed his duties. He continued his normal reign for about one hundred and fiftymillion years and then one day, he again took temporary leave andwent out into the universe he created to become a different typeof intelligent being. After his return, this pattern of 150 millionyears of ruling his realm then temporary leave to fulfill his crea-ture experiential mandate continued on until slightly more thantwo thousand years ago. That was when our Michael, a true Son ofGod and the creator and sovereign of this universe, handed overhis responsibilities and his authority to his brother, Immanuel, forthe last time as this was Michael’s seventh and final incarnation. Hesaid his good-byes, walked to the headquarters’ transit field, thendisappeared. A short while later a very special baby was born in thestable of an inn near the town of Bethlehem in Judea to a youngJewish couple from Nazareth in Galilee. Michael, as Jesus, experienced a full human life. He grew up,went to school, learned his father’s craft of woodworking, traveledto Jerusalem for his rites of passage as a Jew, and at age fourteen, when his human father, Joseph, was killed in a construction ac-cident, he took over as head of the household, providing for hismother Mary, his five brothers and his three sisters. He knew early in his life that he was not like the other children, but it wasn’t until he was nearly thirteen that he knew of his di-vinity. His proof came when a celestial messenger from Immanuelconfirmed who he was and informed him that “it is time to beginyour Father’s business.” When he was twenty two he began freeing himself from the re-sponsibilities of his family. He took employment that allowed himto travel and he used this opportunity to learn about man and toteach about God. His travels lasted several years, and then one day, while workingin his friend’s boatbuilding shop, he placed his tools in a box, tookoff his apron and announced, “My hour has come.” He walked out of
62 Jeff Sigginsthe shop and kept walking. His two brothers, James and Jude, joinedhim and they walked for two days, then suddenly they were standingin the Jordan River, directly in front of their cousin, John the Baptist. After a momentary greeting, John baptized Jesus and his broth-ers. Suddenly an apparition appeared overhead and the four menheard a voice say, “This is my beloved son in whom I am wellpleased.” Jesus immediately began walking. He wasn’t seen againfor forty days. It was a time for contemplation and planning andJesus wanted to be alone. When it was completed, Jesus walkedback to John the Baptist’s camp. By the next afternoon Jesus had selected the first six of his apos-tles. After four months of training, he sent them out in pairs, notto preach, but to do personal work. When they returned, he askedeach of them to find someone to add to the group. It would be thesetwelve men that would be responsible for keeping the teachings ofthe Master alive after he had gone. After a compelling and inspiring ordination ceremony, thepreaching tours began. The tours were difficult, yet productive. Then after two successful tours of Galilee, Jesus surprised his apos-tles by announcing that they were to be joined by a corps of wom-en. The shocked apostles had problems with this at first, but afterseeing the helpful contributions that the women made, especiallywhen ministering to other women, the apostles were pleased tohave them along. After four years of touring and spreading the gospel of Jesus, theapostles enjoyed more than a modest success. Many people, bothJew and Gentile, proclaimed their faith in God and were baptized. These twelve apostles of Jesus looked forward to an even greatersuccess as they traveled to the Passover celebration in Jerusalemwhere Jews from all over the world might hear the gospel and besaved. How stunned they must have been when only thirty sixhours after he celebrated Passover dinner with them, Jesus was dy-ing on a Roman cross. For weeks Jesus had been talking about returning to his Father, that his time was almost completed, yet his apostles could not bringthemselves to realize that he was actually leaving them. He had
Me for President and Pope 63been giving final instructions about several matters, yet the twelverefused to accept the fact of his departure. Jesus again and again instructed them to be heedful that the re-ligion that would spring up from his teachings be a religion aboutgaining the Kingdom of Heaven and not a religion about Jesus. Hehad also instructed them to wait for him in Jerusalem, that evenafter his death, he would be with them again. They did not have long to wait. Jesus died on Friday and on Sun-day, Mary Magdalene and four other women spoke with him near thetomb in which his body had been placed. He was no longer in a bodyof flesh, but his form was recognizable as Jesus. Mary reported this tothe apostles, but they did not believe her. When a despondent Maryreturned to the tomb, Jesus spoke with her again. Later he spoke withPeter and then with the other apostles. In the days that followed, Jesusmade nineteen appearances to a total of almost one thousand people. His last appearance, known as the Ascension, was on the Mount ofOlives. He bid his followers farewell and informed the apostles thatsoon they would receive a gift of the Spirit of Truth. It would helpthem with their teaching. Then he ascended to his Father in Paradise. The next day, Pentecost, the apostles and more than a hundredfollowers were praying together when suddenly the room was per-meated with a strange presence. It filled the people with courage andjoy and they rushed out to proclaim the gospel as the Spirit of Truthwas upon them. But almost immediately, just as Jesus warned, the problem began. The apostles were so impressed by what Jesus had done, that the fo-cus of the preaching was on Jesus and not on the gospel of the King-dom of Heaven. And the religion that grew out of this movement hadthe same flaw. It was a religion about Jesus, the Savior, the Redeemerand not a religion about attaining the Kingdom of Heaven. They got it wrong. Peter and Paul formed what was to becomethe Roman Catholic Church and right from the beginning, they gotit wrong. They created a religion about Jesus, when Jesus wantedthem to initiate a religion about God and each individual’s relation-ship with God. Perhaps that’s why Catholicism has failed to main-tain itself as a unified religion. Maybe that’s why there are so many
64 Jeff SigginsChristian sects with each searching for a better interpretation ofChristian theology. Yet if that original Christian (read Catholic) the-ology was against the wishes of Jesus, there is a problem, isn’t there? Now knowing this, knowing that Christians are all practicing areligion based on a two thousand year old mistake, we come to avery important question. What are we going to do about it? My solution? A do-over. That’s right. We simply agree to begin Christianity all over again. Afresh start. A new beginning. A death and resurrection. And this timewe will do it right. We will make Christianity the religion of Jesus, nota religion about Jesus. That’s what Jesus wanted so let’s fulfill his wish. So how do we do this? Well, that’s what the rest of this book isabout. In the following pages I lay out my plan by which the NewChristianity can become a reality. So let’s start the debate. Do wecontinue on as we are, fragmented and messy, or do we changeChristianity to better reflect the wishes of Jesus? My vote is forchange. My vote is for Jesus. Before presenting the New Christianity, there is one more thing Ithink is worth consideration. Imagine how Michael, the creator andsovereign of our universe, who lived here on Earth with us as Jesus, the Son of God and the Son of Man, imagine how he will feel if aftertwo thousand years, the religion that bears his name is changed tothe religion he hoped it would be. Think about that. And now, the New Christianity. Chapter Twenty-eight The New Christianity THE NEW CHRISTIANITY should not deny, denigrate or condemnthe Old Christianity. Instead, New Christians should recognize and ap-plaud the great contributions made by the Old Christianity. After all, ithas kept alive the gospel of Jesus for almost two thousand years. The New Christians should seek to build on what the Old Chris-tianity has given us. For the most part, it is a matter of changing the
Me for President and Pope 65focus. In the Old Christianity, the focus was on Jesus. In the NewChristianity, the focus will be on God and each individual’s relation-ship with God. This is what Jesus wanted. It’s obvious that Jesusdidn’t want a religion about himself, because if he had wanted that,he would have left writings and images of himself. But he didn’t. To better understand the wishes of Jesus, let us examine someof the statements that he is reported to have made, especially thoseregarding what he referred to as “the Kingdom of Heaven.”1. “Follow me.” These are the words of a leader. Jesus used these words with his apostles. He often used these words to answer questions. Example: When someone would ask him, “How can I enter the Kingdom of Heaven?” He would reply, “Follow me.” Like all good leaders, Jesus led by example. He lived his life onEarth, died and then returned to make several appearances and spoketo those he visited. This was to show us the reality of life after death. Jesus wants us to follow him, which means doing the will ofGod. Jesus lived his entire life doing his Father’s will.2. “The Kingdom of Heaven is within you.” This was one of Jesus’ most favorite sayings. He constantly reminded his apos- tles to use this phrase. And this gives us a good opportunity to examine what Jesus meant by the “the Kingdom of Heaven.” The Kingdom of Heaven was the term Jesus used for the eternalsurvival of the human soul, in other words, immortality, everlastinglife. The fact is you don’t die. Not really. Your material body dies, but your soul, that which is truly you, progresses until you are sospiritually perfect that you ascend to the Isle of Paradise and thepresence of God the Father. It takes a very long time for an animal-born mortal being to spiri-tually progress until you are ‘face to face’ with God, but we haveeternity, so it is not a problem. Now why did Jesus say that the Kingdom of Heaven was withinyou? Because every human being has a small fragment of God in-
66 Jeff Sigginsside and if we learn to listen to this spirit gift from our HeavenlyFather, we will be led right back to the source of this divine frag-ment, God Himself. It is by listening to this piece of God that welearn to do God’s will. This is what we truly want to do. We wantto do God’s will. Remember the words in the Lord’s Prayer, “Your(Thy) will be done.” Your (Thy), of course, refers to God.3. “Faith is the key to the Kingdom of Heaven.” Simply stated, faith in God will get you eternity. That is what Jesus promised us. Yet, like most things, it is a bit more complex when one examines the reality. The complexity arises when we discuss the various routes that can be taken to get to Paradise. When a person who has professed faith in God dies, one of twothings happens. The person begins his or her next stage of existenceshortly after death, or the person sleeps. For the sleeping survivor, he or she will awaken at the nextmillennial dispensation along with millions of other sleepingsouls. Hosts of angels will accompany these souls to the firstmansion world of our universe. Here the training will begin thatwill ready the personality for the journey to Paradise and Godthe Father. Some people, however, do not follow this route when they die. After a three day wait (or sometimes a bit more than three days),they awake on the first mansion world. They will stay there for alength of time that conversely corresponds to the experience theygained while in the human body. If they made great spiritual prog-ress while alive on Earth, their stay on this first mansion worldwill be short. They will continue moving onward to new mansionworlds until they reach the appropriate level for their spiritual edu-cation to truly begin.4. “In my Father’s house there are many mansions.” Jesus was speaking about our afterlife. After we die, our personality, our soul, travels to the first mansion world where we will live and
Me for President and Pope 67 learn until we graduate to subsequent mansions of God. The first mansion world is where we learn many of the things that we missed learning while ‘in the flesh’. The mansions are the places where the process of true spiritualization begins. At this stage we are not yet spirit. Nor are we flesh, but something in between. In fact, we are in the same form that Jesus was in near his tomb when he told Mary Magdalene, “Touch me not.” When we have completed our educational needs for this level,we progress to the next mansion world, where we continue ourgreat adventure of spiritualizing and learning by experience. Jesus admonishes us to be perfect as God is perfect. Perfectiontakes a very long time. Traversing the various mansion worlds is theprocess of becoming more and more perfect. And remember, wehave eternity. Yet also remember, we have eternity only if we enterthe Kingdom of Heaven, which means professing our faith in God.We need not profess our faith to others. As a piece of God dwellsinside us, we need merely to declare this to ourselves. In his discussions with his apostles and disciples, Jesus stressed5 teachings.1. The individual is of paramount importance. To both God and Jesus, the spiritual progress of each and everyindividual is a top priority. We need God, yet God also needs us.Please understand; it is by indwelling the mortal beings of inhabit-able planets that God is ever widening His own experiential reality.2. Each person should determine his or her own experiences. The freedom to make important decisions and choose one’s owndestiny is a divine gift. Making choices and decisions is how wegrow. Make your own decisions. Do not give that responsibility toothers.3. Promote the spiritual relationship between each individual and God the Father. God is inside each person just as every person is in God. Learn
68 Jeff Sigginsto cultivate a reciprocal communication with that inner fragment ofDeity. Learn to listen to that inner voice.4. Loving service to our fellow man is our highest ideal. Let us learn to serve others and quickly we will all be helpingeach other ascend to an eternal existence. As Spinoza said, “Dogood, and cheerfully.”5. As we progress, spirituality replaces materialism. As we ascend higher in our consciousness of matters of the spirit, values become more important than material objects. Think of itthis way – “Things own us as much as we own them.” Jesus left a message of hope for all of us when he proclaimed hisgospel by which to live.1. Recognize God as a loving and merciful Father. Love him.2. Understand the fact that all people are the children of God and thus we are all brothers and sisters. We should treat each other as such. Desire to do the will of God, that is, desire to be perfect as Godis perfect. Do unto others as you would have them do unto you. Worship God, pray to Jesus. And most importantly, Jesus stressed that communicating withGod the Father can be done anywhere and anytime. It does notrequire special places as He is inside each of us.
Me for President and Pope Chapter Twenty-nine Preparations THE NEW CHRISTIANITY will not happen by itself. It willtake both time and hard work. Much discussion and debate willbe necessary to reach a consensus that will allow for a smooth andpeaceful transition. Most of all, it will require the resolve of everyindividual Christian. Each Christian will need to search deep inside himself or herself, will need to weigh the merits and liabilities of embracing the NewChristianity, then take action by making a concrete and difficultchoice – the New Christian religion or his or her old Christian sect. To aid you in this decision process, allow me to present some ofthe merits and liabilities of changing from your old Christian sect tothe New Christian religion. For the sake of fairness, I am presentingan equal number of reasons for changing to the New Christianityand for staying with your old Christian sect. Six reasons for staying with your Christian sect. •People are more comfortable with what they know. Change often means a loss of that comfort. •The traditions of Christianity are important to maintain. What was good enough for our ancestors is good enough for us. •The Christian clergy will most likely support the old Chris- tian sects. As their lives are dedicated to these sects, they should have the support of the members of their congrega- tions. •People invest their time, effort, money and sense of commu- nity in their religion. Changing to a new way will mean a loss of that investment. •The old ways have been tried and tested. A new way may be
70 Jeff Sigginstotally wrong and might get a person who follows a new wayin trouble with God.•If Jesus wanted us to change our way of worshipping, hewould find a way to let us know this. Six reasons for changing to the New Christian religion.•A unified Christian community can become the most excit-ing and powerful spiritual force in the world.•By creating a religion about Jesus, the early Christians, led byPeter and Paul, did exactly what Jesus warned them not to do.By correcting this mistake, we could gain great favor with theCreator of our universe.•The New Christianity merely changes the focus. The old•Christianity focused on the life and works of Jesus. The NewChristianity will focus on God and each person’s relationshipwith God, just as Jesus wanted.•The primary goal of the New Christianity is to help a greaternumber of people enter the Kingdom of Heaven. To be good is good. To do good is better. To be good and todo good is best. Serving our fellow men and women is doinggood. The new Christianity holds to the tenet that by servingmankind, we serve God.•The New Christian replaces God-fearing with God-lovingand thus finds the confidence and strength to face the trialsand tribulations of our mortal existence.
Chapter Thirty Diplomacy Please understand. None of what is subsequently presented hasany validity unless I am elected to be the President of the UnitedStates. As I am fully aware of the great odds that are stacked againstme, I most probably am presenting a plan that has no possiblechance of becoming a reality. This being said, I charge forward withmy presentation of what can be accomplished if the American vot-ers agree with my plans for a better American government and amuch needed unification of Christianity. My personal contributions to the transition from the Old Chris-tianity to the New Christianity will depend entirely on which role Iam playing – Good Citizen Jeff or President Jeff. In many ways GoodCitizen Jeff will be much more able to contribute to the transitionbecause of the legal restrictions confronting President Jeff. The FirstAmendment to the U.S. Constitution forbids the establishment ofreligion by the government and as President Jeff I would definitelybe part of the government. It is therefore important that I make most of my contributions tothe transition before I am elected President. My first contribution,of course, is this book, Me for President and Pope. The publication and release of this book will not only provideAmericans with the idea of a New Christianity, it will also ex-pose these ideas to the officials of the Roman Catholic Church. In a way, this will be the first step in a long line of diplomaticcontacts. It is important to state at this point that although I am seekinga unification of Christianity, I do not wish to impose a dogmatictheology on anyone. I believe that how you worship God is up to
72 Jeff Sigginsyou. It is not a common theology that should cement Christianstogether, but a sense of community. This sense of communityshould flow from the common belief that God is our loving Fa-ther and because we are all the children of God, we are thereforebrothers and sisters. If I am selected by the American voters to be President Jeff, I will belimited in what I can do to promote the transition from the Old Chris-tianity to the New Christianity. But I think it is clear that the officials ofthe Roman Catholic Church are much more likely to take me seriouslyif I am the American President with the might of the American ArmedForces behind me than simply an American citizen with an idea. During my Presidency I will open up a back channel, unofficialdialogue with officials of the Catholic Church. We will negotiate aformal contract for the turnover of power. It is so very important toget all of these matters taken care of before the beginning of Opera-tion Pied Piper, so that no one is hurt. Any slip ups in diplomacyand there could be fatalities, which is something that I stronglywish to avoid at all costs. Operation Pied Piper, the military inva-sion of Vatican City, will be explained in the next chapter. It shouldbe a charade, a sham invasion. Before this military operation, I wantto have everything sewn up with diplomacy. This is very importantif we are to prevent bad things from occurring. For the New Christianity to blossom and survive, the RomanCatholic Church and all Protestant Churches will have to give uptheir institutional sovereignty and start afresh. I know this will bedifficult. But it can be done, especially when those who are in posi-tions of ecclesiastic authority realize that it for the greater good ofmankind to do this. Permit me to say it once more. The New Christianity is a do-over, a chance to rectify a mistake by the earliest Christians. Jesusdid not want a religion about himself. If he had, he would have leftwritings and images of himself for us to worship. Christ wantedus to worship God, our Father and see each other as brothers andsisters. Now is the time for this to happen. We can realize this wishof Jesus, even after two thousand years. We simply have to sincerelywant this to happen. And it will happen much faster and more
Me for President and Pope 73peacefully with the blessings of all the Christian church officials, especially those at the Vatican. Let the diplomacy begin. Chapter Thirty-one Operation Pied Piper SHORTLY AFTER MY FIRST and only State of the Union Ad-dress early in 2014, I, as Commander-in-Chief of the U.S. ArmedForces, will give the order to activate Operation Pied Piper. Thiswill set in motion the military operation to take over Vatican Citywith American Marines and Army Special Forces troops. As stated earlier, this is basically a charade, played out with greatpre-planning and consultation with both the Swiss Guards whoprovide security for the Vatican and with the Pope and Vatican of-ficials. This is designed to be a bloodless coup and will be if themembers of the Catholic hierarchy at the Vatican do not do any-thing foolish. Now, you might rightfully ask, “Why does this feller Jeff what’s-his-name think he should kick out the Pope and the cardinals andset himself up to be the new Pope?” My answer: because the Catholic Church is the most likely insti-tution to thwart the effort to replace the Old Christianity with theNew Christianity. There is a second reason. It’s what I call the ‘historical recordreason.’ If one looks back at the history of the past two thousandyears, one quickly sees that once the Catholic Church became apowerful religious organization, it, like many institutions, did uglythings to stay in power. It is a long and tragic list: The Crusades; the slaughter of the Ca-thars; the Spanish Inquisition; the persecution of free thinkers; theobliteration of New World cultures such as the Mayans, Incas andAztecs; the utter corruption of the priests that Martin Luther railedagainst; the religious wars against reformers; the almost total disre-gard for the plight of the Jews in Nazi Germany; the sexual abuse
74 Jeff Sigginsof children by priests; and most recently, interference in the 2004American Presidential election where American Bishops threateneddenial of the sacrament of Holy Communion to one of the candi-dates because of his personal political and social views. Yet perhaps the greatest tragedy the Roman Catholic Church hasperpetrated on the world is the relegation of women to second classstatus, totally shutting them out of the halls of power, even to thisday, and thus setting a horrible example for others to follow. This isshameful beyond belief. Jesus had a corps of women evangelists who traveled with theapostles. He gave them equal status to the men. Some of the bestof the early Christian missionaries were women. The wife of Peter, for example, worked side-by-side with her husband and was killedby wild animals in an arena in Rome on the same day Peter wascrucified. Most people do not know this because the Catholic of-ficials have not wanted people to know the historical contributionsof women. From an aircraft carrier cruising near the Italian coast, a com-bination of troop-carrying and attack helicopters loaded with U.S.Marines and Army Special Forces troops will fly to Vatican City toland in various parts of this tiny sovereign enclave. Once the American troops secure Vatican City, the U.S. Ambas-sador to the Vatican will present the Pope with documents of res-ignation. Upon signing these documents, the Pope will retire to anundisclosed location and the traditional mechanism for electing anew Pope will go into effect. This means that cardinals from all overthe world will travel to the Vatican to begin the traditional conclavein the Sistine Chapel. The cardinals will elect me Pope by way of a Proclamation ofAdoration. Failure to do so will have dire consequences for all Ro-man Catholic officials, not just the cardinals, as I will regard thefailure to elect me to the Papacy as an act of war against the UnitedStates of America, as it will break a negotiated, signed contract, atreaty between two sovereign governments. Yet if the cardinals fulfill the terms of the negotiated treaty, they
Me for President and Pope 75will be free to assist with the changeover from the old Christianityto the New Christianity and will be honored and treated as heroesof the New Christian religion. Chapter Thirty-two Investiture Once I am elected Pope, I will resign the office of President of theUnited States of America. As per the terms of my letter of resigna-tion, the actual resignation will not take effect until the exact mo-ment that I become the Bishop of Rome, by name, Pope Patrick Mi-chael I. At that moment, the Vice President becomes the President. The ceremony of investiture will be formal and traditional. Itis a simple ceremony during which the Papal candidate receivesthe accoutrements of office – a mitre, a crozier, a pallium and theRing of the Fisherman. The mitre is a tall, pointed hat that has tworibbon (called lappets) that hang down from the back. The crozierlooks like a shepherd’s staff that is topped by a cross. The palliumis a circular band of white wool, bedecked with two ribbons uponwhich are embroidered crosses and it signifies pontifical power. TheRing of the Fisherman is the traditional signet ring worn by popes. The ring is of gold and features the figure of St. Peter, fishing froma boat, which is encircled by the name of the Pope who wears it. Following the investiture ceremony there will be a mass (in Lat-in) for the new Pope, after which I will make my first speech to thefaithful and afterwards hold a press conference. Those will be mylast words in public for several months as I will then retire to theVatican offices for a period of study, reflection and prayer.
Jeff Siggins Chapter Thirty-three Hibernation SOMETIMES WHEN MY FRIENDS ask me where I have been orwhat have I been doing, my answer is simply –“Hibernating.” It hasnothing to do with sleep, however. It is my term for disappearing fora period of time for the purpose of taking in, storing and analyzinginformation. I love knowledge. My greatest joy in life is learning. And I don’tmean simply taking in facts. During my ‘hibernations’ I like to focuson a topic, read lots of different things about it, then think about it,looking at all sides and weighing the importance of various elementsand trying to fit it all into my picture of the grand scheme of things. After being invested as Pope Patrick Michael the First, I plan tospend several months hibernating in the Vatican. It is important toremember that our goal is to have a unified Christianity and thisnew version should be the religion of Jesus, not a religion about Je-sus. Thus during Hibernation, I will meet with the leaders of otherChristian sects in an attempt to find a common ground for a reli-gious unification that will help establish the New Christianity. When my hibernation is over, I will turn to the matter of the person-nel of the Church, the nuns, priests, monsignors, bishops, and cardinals. Chapter Thirty-four Housecleaning WHILE THE PERIOd of hibernation will be used to study andconsider what to do with the relationships between the Roman
Me for President and PopeCatholic Church and the other Christian sects, the period I callHousecleaning will be for the study and consideration of what to dowith the human wealth of the Roman Catholic Church, its clergy. This will be a time for personal interviews and negotiations. I willspeak personally with every cardinal in the Church, who in turnwill speak to the bishops in their jurisdictions, who in turn willspeak to their monsignors, priests and nuns. The interviews will be quite simple. The primary question willbe, “What do you wish to do, now and in the future?” The choicesfor the cardinals, bishops, monsignors and priests will include leav-ing the Church with a financial settlement, retirement to a monas-tery, staying with the Church as a practicing priest or becoming amember of the Legion of Light. The Legion of Light will be men and women who travel the worldin pairs, ministering to those in need and bringing to all the messageof the New Christianity. Each pair will consist of a husband and wife. The nuns of the Church also have several choices. They can leavethe Church with a financial settlement, retire to a convent, becomea priest (priestess) with the ability to conduct masses and providethe other rites of the Church, or marry and become a member ofthe Legion of Light. For those who are teaching in Catholic schools, they can continue on as teachers if they are willing to teach in whatwill become non-dogmatic institutions of learning. This is also truefor priests who are teachers. For those who chose to remain priests, they will continue tocarry out the normal responsibilities of the priesthood. They willbe in charge of the church to which they are assigned, they will of-ficiate at masses and they will perform the sacraments of baptism, marriage, confession, communion and last rites. Dropped from theChurch will be catechism and the rites of confirmation and ordina-tion (see the exception below). Housecleaning will be the period in which the Roman CatholicChurch begins to wind down its institutional structure of person-nel. From the moment Pope Patrick Michael I takes the reins ofPapal control, there will only be new ordinations for nuns who wishto become priests. All others who wish to contribute their energies
78 Jeff Sigginsin a spiritual way will be advised to marry and join the Legion ofLight. The Legion of Light members are not priests. Legion of Lightmembers have no authority, religious or otherwise. Legion of Lightmembers are more like the early Christians, who moved aboutspreading the word of the gospels of Jesus Christ. After beingtrained in the Legion of Light headquarters in the Vatican City, theLegion of Light members will go into the places of darkness, theslums and prisons and anywhere else where they are needed. Theywill work with institutional support, that is, they can receive moneyfor expenses that will come from private donations. There will bea Vatican headquarters from which membership is granted and ex-penses are paid. But understand this; those in the Legion of Lightare required to take vows of poverty. This is not a moneymaking oc-cupation. Being a member of the Legion of Light is a spiritual call-ing. Think of it as the New Christianity’s version of the Peace Corps. There are those who may question why priests of the CatholicChurch will still be saying Mass and performing the rites of theCatholic Church if the New Christianity is to replace this ancientinstitution. The answer is that the New Christianity is to evolve, not instantly replace all of the various sects of the Old Christianity. There are many Christians of both Catholic and Protestant faithswho will wish to maintain a connection to their religious sect, toworship at the church of their choice. That right should not betaken away from them. Everyone should worship as they please. How and where they worship should not be imposed on them. TheNew Christianity simply offers a new choice and it should be up toeach individual to make that choice, or not Chapter Thirty-FIve Announcements MY PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITY will be to leave the Churchin good hands when I retire. As there are no more cardinals, I will
Me for President and Pope 79appoint my successor. She will be known as Pope Joan. I think it isfitting that after being shut out of the halls of power since the begin-ning that the Pope that leads the transition from Roman CatholicChurch to the New Christianity should be a woman. So very, very soon, hopefully within the year, I will retire. I willbuy a piece of land, create a beautiful farm and spend my daysgardening and relaxing. I don’t want power. I just want to help theworld become a better place and then I want to retire so that I cancontemplate my next steps for getting closer to God. I will give the accoutrements and the responsibilities of the Pa-pacy to Pope Joan. She will be in charge of the priesthood and thetransition to the New Christianity. Before her inauguration as Pope, she will appoint her successor, yet will keep it secret until she diesor wishes to retire. If she so desires, she can change her choice ofsuccessor. Her successor will follow this same method of selectionof the titular head of the New Christianity. So it is written and so it will be. Go with God. Chapter Thirty-six Final Thoughts A SEASON OF DARKNESS has descended upon America. Itblew in on the malodorous breeze of our downed twin towers andstayed like an unwanted guest. It remains for one of three reasons: The leaders of our great nation are too cowardly and weak tovanquish this burdensome shroud of fear. Those who govern are taking advantage of this darkness to sub-vert the U.S. Constitution for their own evil purposes. These guys are simply inept and don’t know how to extricate usfrom this insidious calamity. It saddens me to say this, but in the first years of the Twenty-FirstCentury, the words “land of the free and the home of the brave”seem less like a description of our present reality and more like areminder of our distant, glorious past.
80 Jeff Siggins Citizens of America, it is time for a change. It is time for “a newday, a new way.” It is time for Americans to rise up and take backcontrol of both our government and our lives. It is time to returnto “a government of the people, by the people, for the people.” It istime to ‘throw the bums out.’ We are the voters. It is in our hands. We are responsible for electing those who govern. Let us take thisresponsibility seriously. This is not the time to walk into the voting booth and merelypull the lever for those of the political party for whom we alwaysvote. We have seen the outcome of that voting strategy. This is notthe time to sheepishly submit to our fears, but the time for us to bebold, courageous, willing to do something different, willing to votefor change. This is not the time to vote for one who has a love ofpower, but for one who knows the power of love. The power of love! Love! Love! Not the usual word for a politi-cian, is it? Why is that? Love is the most powerful force in the uni-verse. It is the force that binds us together. It is the dispeller of fear, the antidote to hate, the source of all things good. You might thinkthat our leaders would want to be associated with love, to claim itas their own; but they don’t. Instead, they prefer to warn us aboutevil empires, or possible attacks from terrorists, or the threats fromgays. They want us to fear, not love. They want us in darkness, be-cause wrapped in darkness, we are easier to control. My fellow Americans, the politicians of today are masters of pro-moting fear. They know how to divide and isolate people, to sepa-rate us and turn us against each other. Well, I am calling a halt to that. I’m publicly declaring that it istime for a change. The time for lies and fear mongering and dark-ness is over. It is now time for truth and love and goodness. Itis time for courage and light. It is time to stand up to those whowish us to be under their thumbs. I openly declare this and hopethat many will follow my lead, as again and again I stand firm andshout, “Let there be truth. Let there be goodness. Let there be hope.Let there be love. Let there be light!”
