  • 2. Graduation
    • Completion of the portfolio interview is a graduation requirement.
    • Your part is an important component.
  • 3. Interviewers’ Orientation
    • There are three evenings provided
    • Starting at 6:00 PM
    • Newton High School Library
    • Portfolios will be available
    Monday, Feb 23 Tuesday, Feb 24 Tuesday, March 2
  • 4. Preview the Portfolios
    • Come almost anytime
    • Portfolios will be on display here at the high school each day between now and the interviews,
    • 8:00 a.m. to 3:30 p.m.
    • They will also be available during the orientation sessions
    • Monday, Feb 23
    • Tuesday, Feb 24
    • Tuesday, March 2
    • Come early on the day of the interviews
    • to look through the portfolios before the
    • interviews begin.
    • Make an appointment by calling
    • 284-6280 x2624
  • 5. Portfolio Order
    • Use one of the check lists provided for each portfolio you preview.
    • The order of the contents should be the same as the checklist.
    • Make notes of questions that come to mind while you look at the portfolio.
  • 6. The evening of the interviews...
    • Park on the west side.
    • Please arrive 15 (or so) minutes early.
    • Check in at the registration table to get name tag and room assignment.
  • 7.
    • Check in with the hostess stationed in the classroom area. She will help find your rooms and answer questions.
    • Needed materials, including the portfolios and the student evaluation forms, will be in the interview room.
  • 8. What to Expect
    • Students should:
      • Be on time
      • Be dressed nicely
        • No jeans
        • No shorts
        • No tennis shoes
        • Girls, no low fronts
        • No “face” jewelry
      • No chewing gum
  • 9. Interview Questions
    • A list of possible questions will be provided. Other questions might come to mind that are similar.
    • Questions should be school and activity related for the most part.
    • The student’s portfolio might generate some questions for you.
    • Respect the student’s privacy.
  • 10. The form used for evaluating the student’s interview:

  • 11. Do Not Worry...
    • about whether the student has all academic requirements met.
      • The office staff would have counseled the student before now if they were missing credits
    • about whether the student has the required number of service learning hours met.
      • The number of required hours is dependent on how long the student has been at Newton High School. It will vary.
  • 12. If The Student Does Not Do Well...
    • If you feel that a student did not do well enough in the interview process to pass, put that on the evaluation sheet. A second chance will be given to the student after significant counseling and opportunity to improve is given.
  • 13. Evaluate
    • An evaluation form about your experience as an interviewer will be provided. We appreciate you feedback!
