Steamboat Springs Stage Race Press Release - Presentation Transcript

    1. PRESS RELEASE FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE Contact: June 15, 2009 Corey Piscopo – Race Promoter corey@bikesteamboat.com 603-969-9269 www.bikesteamboat.com 2009 Steamboat Springs Stage Race Moves Ahead. Steamboat Springs, CO -- June 15, 2009. After months of planning, the inaugural Steamboat Springs Bicycle Stage Race presented by Moots Cycles is moving ahead for Labor Day weekend, September 4th, 5th, 6th, & 7th. In addition to racing for victory each of the four days, riders will be aiming for the overall victory and part of a $5000 cash purse, similar to the format of the Tour De France. Following consultation with city and county officials, a committee of local business owners and cycling enthusiasts selected four courses that have optimal safety, minimal traffic impact, and challenging terrain. They include a Friday evening individual Time Trial, Saturday Circuit Race, Sunday Road Race and Monday criterium in old town. There will be nine different fields racing based on age, ability, and gender with riders coming from Colorado as well as neighboring states. Race promoter and local cyclist Corey Piscopo is excited about adding another event to Steamboat’s calendar. Piscopo had this to say about the race; “This race is a great opportunity to support local businesses and the cycling community. Steamboat has a reputation of athleticism thanks to programs like the Winter Sports Club and Routt County Riders combined with events such as the Marathon, the Triathlon, the Running series, and the Town Challenge race series. We have four bike shops in town, two bicycle manufacturers and a number of outdoor oriented manufacturers including SmartWool, Honey Stinger and BAP. All of these organizations and companies are an important part of our economy and the town’s character”. A number of businesses have already signed up to support the first year event including Marabou Ranch, Steve Green Co, Honey Stinger, Black Tie Ski Rentals, Ski Haus, Orange Peel Bicycles, Ski & Bike Care, Ace at the Curve, The Steamboat Grand, Aspire Performance Sports Medicine as well as Moots Cycles, who will be the presenting sponsor for the event. With three months until race day, the event still needs additional sponsorship to cover operating expenses and volunteers including course marshals, certified EMTs and drivers for support vehicles. All proceeds from the race go towards the 2010 event and local charities. Individuals interested in volunteering or sponsoring the event can visit www.bikesteamboat.com for more information. # # #
