  5. 5. Simon Bolivar Gran Columbia (Columbia, Venezuela, Ecuador, Panamas) Peru 1807-1822 He was from a rich important family Liberated South America from Spain.
  6. 6. Jose de San Martin Argentina, Chile, Peru 1817-1821 He was an Argentine who had lived in Spain and fought in the Spanish army. Led the liberation of South America.
  7. 7. Dom Pedro Brazil 1822 He was the son of the king of Portugal who had been left to rule the colony. Declared Brazil independent without fighting a war!
