    • Scenarios for an efficient, safe and competitive electric sector1 WWF-BRAZIL2 In September of last year, the WWF-Brazil organization disclosed a study called “Sustainable Power Agenda 2020”, which examined the paths and the challenges for energy production in Brazil. That analysis became even more relevant because, in December 2005, the government started to adopt some decisions that neglected the “clean” image of its energy matrix. That happened because, at that time, 70% of the available energy was sold to fossil fuel thermal power plants (such as diesel oil, coal and natural gas), adding up to a total of 3,286 MW (megawatt) – which represents a 2.8% increase on the total carbon dioxide emissions in Brazil, and an 11% increase on the total CO emissions of the electric sector.
