  • Every organization has some value chain comprised of employees, partners, suppliers, and customers. B2B comprised of your suppliers, partners, or vendors. There’s also B2E = business to employees or we might refer to that as E2E = employees to employees.   And there’s b2c=business to consumers and C2C = consumers to consumers. Across these value chains, a social organization exists. This is a social organization. This is social business. The work environment has moved towards an online one where the dominant communication model is social in nature. A different set of skills, techniques, and processes are required. How can we possibly understand our social customer if we don’t conduct ourselves with the same social behaviors internally? Having a Facebook page, or twitter account is NOT enough! We need to organize our business processes and the way we collaborate in a fundamentally social manner --- through community. And within these communities are numerous sub-communities. Let’s explore the meaning of community….
  • There are hundreds of examples where people, conversations and activities come together independent of any business “process” across the social organization to create value. Find the business case in your organization and look for opportunities to transform the status quo with a better set of technology capabilities. Here are some examples (independent of any one industry or any particular geographic region):HR, Training & DevelopmentOnboard New EmployeesOnline MentoringOn-Demand Social Learning (Professional Development)Information Technology and OperationsImproved communication and project management between teams when working on new product releasesLocate technical expertise, source unique skills to fill gaps and build project teams (i.e., math and analytics expert, java, etc.)Marketing, Corporate Communications & Public RelationsMarket researchIntroductions and notifications of new products and enhancementsAnnouncements of new sales spiff programsFacilitate voice of the customer programR&D, Product DevelopmentShorten release cycles (i.e. pharma – shorten drug cycles) – Testing common scenarios, bridging conversations, collaboration, ideation, reduce time to marketFin Serv (or any industry really) – Introduce new products and services – Ideation helps develop new products, by listening to clientsSales, Services & SupportServices - Clients can help each other; breed collaboration through online support – external customer communitiesSales Preparedness – Single view of customer across sales and support – when a sales person is on a call, he is abreast of any support issues and conversations and vice versusKnowledge ManagementIP retention - capture and store intelligence and wisdom of retiring workforceSharing best practices around policies, etc. - not reinventing the wheel
  • NewsGator provides a better set of capabilities for the social organization. This is a preview of my session later today called, “Social Technologies are a Business Enabler - Is Your Business Ready?.” This diagram shows how Social Sites - on top of SharePoint - provides rich collaboration and expertise location that results in true business value. No matter where SharePoint lives – i.e. corporate intranet, vendor portal, store portal, externally facing website….Newsgator Solutions can be leveraged to expand the social capabilities of the platform. And I’m going to dig down into some specific customer examples during the later track session and show you have those customers obtained real business value from both SharePoint and Newsgator’s Social Sites.Collaborate.Creating an online communities for people to engage with customers, work within teams on projects, resolve issues, and manage your day-to-day activities?Share and Learn.Documents, rich media videos, and ideas?Connect. With colleagues around the globe, find subject matter experts, ask questions, and capture those conversations?Retain & Search Knowledge. From inside your employees heads?Consolidate Information.View all the events taking place across all communities where knowledge work occurs within one single stream?Gain analytics and insights.Know what you don’t know today through visibility and transparency of people, conversations, and activities?
