 Glucose-6-phosphodiesterase deficiency (a hereditary metabolic disorder affecting red blood
cells)
 Heart disorder
 Hemoglobin-M disease (a hereditary metabolic disorder affecting red blood cells)
 Benzocaine may increase the chance of side effects if applied at or near infection.
 Pyruvate-kinase deficiency :- extra precautions must be taken.
 Smokers – must take extra precautions as May increase the complications of
methemoglobinemia
 If you are suffering from any ailment, tell your healthcare provider before using benzocaine.
How to Use Benzocaine
Use this chemical exactly as directed by your medical provider. Never use benzocaine for any other purpose
without consulting with your doctor.
Unless otherwise directed by local physician, do not apply this on burns, open wounds, or inflamed skin.
Because this medicine is readily absorbed into the body through the skin it may be more likely than other
topical anesthetics to cause unwanted effects if it is used too much or too long.
Always follow principle of good hygiene when applying this chemical: Wash your hands with soap and
water before and after using benzocaine.
Always keep benzocaine away from your nose, mouth, and eyes, because it may result in severe eye
irritation. If it gets into these areas, especially the eyes, rinse with water and visit your local doctor right
away.
Read the package label carefully to check if the chemical contains alcohol, which can catch fire. Never use
any product containing alcohol near a fire or while smoking If you are using liquid form of
benzocaine use as required, but never exceed four times a day.
