WHAT DO YOU CALL FIGURES WITH THE SAME SIZE AND SHAPE?
Figures related by a translation (slide), a reflection (flip), or a rotation (turn)
have the same size and shape. These figures are congruent. You can use
tracing paper and slides, flips, or turns to test if two figures are congruent.

DOES MOVING A FIGURE CHANGE ITS SIZE OR SHAPE?
A. Place a polygon on a sheet of grid paper. Trace around
it. Slide it to a new position. Then trace around it again.
B. Are the two figures the same size? Are they the same
shape? Explain how you could use tracing paper or the
original polygon to check.
C. Begin again and draw a flip. Did the size or shape of the
figure change?
D. Now draw a turn. Did the size or shape of the figure
