In 2004 the Film and Television Office issued 4,302 location  filming permits consisting of 1,502 projects which totalled 7,743 days of shooting Toronto was ranked in the top 10 North American cities for  independent productions. The high concentration of quality animation studios has  made Toronto a key North American supplier of children's cartoons. The film and television industry in Toronto employs 25,000  plus people. Toronto is known as a centre for post-production work,  special effects and emerging technology. Toronto companies are internationally known for supplying 3-D and 2-D animation as well as innovative special effects.
