For people who live in shanty towns life is very hard. This is because Shanty towns are often small, cramped and very basic. Most shanty towns have no electricity, clean water or drainage systems which all lead to people living there having low quality of life.
Most shanty towns are built on the edge of the cities where no one else will build.
The homes are mainly built small shacks made of wood, tin and other materials which are easy to be found. These settlements are improvised in order to build quick homes for somewhere to live.
Education and Employment In a shanty town there is very little education or employment. The children have very little education because families can not afford school fee’s. it is also a long way to walk to a near school. Employment is very limited because the jobs are taken by people who live in the city, as they have better education. http://www.webcrunchers.com/crunch/india/Commute_imgs/shanty.jpg
The dangers of living there
Where ever you live there are dangers but there are some serious danger in shanty towns. One of the dangers is fires, In January 2004 a shanty town in Manila (capital of the Philippines) suffered from a extreme fire. This particular fire could have been controlled much easier but the houses were built too close together to get access. This resulted in the fire fighters needing 7 hours to control the fire, this also left one fire fighter injured. The whole fire resulted in five death’s and 22,000 people left homeless.
Another danger would be the spread dieses, shanty towns have unclean water and this results in death. Many people living in a shanty towns have to walk miles to reach water and even then it is dirty. However in some shanty towns things have been don’t to help with the water condition, a few have water pumps, this allows clean water however sometimes there will not be enough water for everyone.
