  • 2. Metal detectors range in price from $35 kids toys to professional systems costing over $50,000(!) Fortunately, there's some great units costing a few hundred $
  • 3. The 3 main types are <ul><li>VLF (very low frequency) most versatile, </li></ul>two coils, one sender one receiver <ul><li>PI (pulse induction) like radar, great </li></ul>where there's little trash <ul><li>BFO (beat frequency oscillator) oldest, </li></ul>two oscillators, metal object de-tunes one of them BFO not used much any more – not much accuracy or control
  • 4. Major brands include <ul><li>Bounty Hunter </li></ul><ul><li>Fisher </li></ul><ul><li>Garrett
  • 5. Minelab
  • 6. Tesoro </li></ul>
  • 7. There's lots of different treasures <ul><li>Valuable stuff – coins, watches, jewelry </li></ul><ul><li>Historic stuff – buttons, tools, bullets </li></ul><ul><li>Meteorites! </li></ul>What you find depends largely on where you hunt
  • 8. Great places to hunt include <ul><li>Beaches – sand is easy to dig, </li></ul>valuables often lost or left behind <ul><li>Sites and trails in the woods
  • 9. Deserts </li></ul>Don't forget to get permission for searching on private property Hunting may be prohibited at historic sites, and usually is prohibited at battle fields
