A FIELD ORIENTED AGENCY• 5200 Parks/Playgrounds/Greenstreets and 7500 facilities with only 3250 employees.• Large parts of our staff are distributed within Park Districts.• District offices have computers and are on a VPN.• OMB says that computers have a 5 year life span.• Most field work recorded on paper - Office clerk enters data.• Backlog in reporting work status.

TRANSITION TO MOBILE COMPUTING• The Department has purchased over 1100 mobile computing devices within the past 18 months.• Motorola MC75 & ES400, Motion Computing J3500, Trimble GPS• Devices are used for legacy systems, Off The Shelf products and developed applications.• Park Inspection Program-PIP, Infor - AMPS, Azteca/ESRI - ForMS, Forestry Storm Mobile

FUTURE APPLICATION DEVELOPMENT AT DPR• Desktop applications are different than mobile applications.• Minimizing drilling into the app to complete a task.• Multiple applications for multiple workflows.• Overlapping workflows within different apps.• Apps have to run on exiting hardware.• Take advantage of service published by other agencies.
