Question 2. How effective is the combination of your main product and ancillary tasks?
How effective is the combination of your main product and ancillary tasks?
Digipack and music video
In our DigiPack we have two contrasting colours. The outside of our Digi pack is made up of dark greens and browns.
The inside is mainly Red, shown through the brickwork background. These two colours reflects two different sides to our media piece. The outside is showing the rural setting while the inside is much more urban. The outside is much more similar to our music video as the location is the same. This is the synergy in our piece, people buying the album would immediately recognize our album from watching the music video. We used similar colours in order to keep the same kind of mood. In the music video and the ancillary products.
Digipack And Poster
For the poster we have used the image of a tape with the bands name and song on it. This image is also on the digipack. We thought by using one particular image through our piece it would be associated with our album.
Looking back on my research we could see that bands use the same themes in the music videos, albums and posters.
For example looking at Black Eyed Peas there is the theme of futuristic, electronic. This is seen in the music video and also used on the album cover and tour Poster. The theme is shown the digital waves and the green CGI face.
The themes also represent the type of music is in the video. Black Eyed Peas futuristic theme reflects the electro-hop genre. Our music video is indie but slightly sound like pop. The image of the tape gives a retro feeling which we feel goes with our music. The settings also show a gritty side to our piece. A lot of the music video takes place down a walk way, giving the setting a low class gritty feeling.
the Tape is also spray painted onto a
wall on the digipack.
We wanted each to interlink but not be exact replicas of each other. This is why we made our poster look different to the album digipack.
We took the themes or specific images from our music video and incorporated them into our digipack and poster. This reworking shows how we can create something new while taking from our music video.
We have also used the same actor who is on the music video on the digipack. The protagonist is wearing same clothing in both the video and digipack. This creates more synergy and people will recognize the protagonist who is also meant to be apart of the band although not explicitly shown. We also show other band members on the digipack at the same location.
We have also carried the font and colour from the Digi pack to the poster. The pink and blue is also works with the dig pack and poster.
We tried to find a type of font which went with the genre of music. We also felt the blue and pink lettering went with the genre of music.
All this synergy makes our main product link with the ancillary products thus making it more effective. Instead of just copying images from digipack to poster we have made an overall theme and mood.
