  2. 2. What is a research paper? <ul><li>A summary of what others have already said or written on a given subject </li></ul><ul><li>A library paper or term paper </li></ul><ul><li>A paper in which the source of material is credited </li></ul>

What does a research paper do? <ul><li>The research paper presents facts which are: </li></ul><ul><li>• based upon reading or consulting several specified sources </li></ul><ul><li>• presented according to a standard method of procedure </li></ul><ul><li>• limited to a relatively narrow phase of a subject </li></ul><ul><li>• original in selection, evaluation, expression, and conclusion </li></ul>
  4. 4. Three criteria for a topic: <ul><li>The topic should interest you. </li></ul><ul><li>It should be within your abilities. </li></ul><ul><li>There should be enough information available on it to complete a paper. </li></ul>
