MIPCOM's Conference Wrap-Up was delivered by Gavin McGarry, a former Joost executive who is now president of consultancy Jumpwire Media.
McGarry’s brief was to tackle the question: How Do You Create A Multi-Platform Digital Strategy For Your Business? He responded with an articulate summation of what had been said during the previous three days of conference activity.
His key observation was that digital media continues to disrupt traditional media – but there are signs of emerging revenue streams: “A lot of talk this week was of the freemium model – where users are encouraged to enter with free content then invited to pay for addons and enhanced functionality. As a general rule we’re seeing 10% of > people willing to pay.”
McGarry said one of the most interesting shifts at this market was the way ad agencies and games companies now take centre stage at MIPCOM: “It’s a sign of how quickly things are developing that you can have a Publicis executive sharing a stage in Cannes with Tony Cohen of FremantleMedia.”
