  • 2. Why Education Institute Use FOSS...
    • As a Academic Institute each college need to follow some guideline (given by Government Agencies).
    • These guideline also includes providing some basic IT Infrastructure.
    • Their is an open Source solution for almost each of the solution required for running the Academic Institute .
  • 3. Why Education Institute Use FOSS...
    • As the source code for the FOSS softwares are free i.e. they give you freedom to modify it and customize it according to your needs. So,they give flexibility to the institution for their adaptability .
    • This also help Institutes to cut their cost.
    • Students can be easily involved in these type of projects .

    • Computer center are the best place to start with as these computer are frequently infected by the viruses.
    • Deploy a repository server for centralized package providing .
    • If possible deploy a LSTP server so , it can ease the administration of the lab.
    • Use centralized blocking of the censored material on the web using proxy server.
    • Ubuntu can be configured easily as the LSTP server.

    • License fees of Maya software which is very high , multimedia labs can replace this with the Blender which is a FOSS product .
    • For the setup of the database labs mysql can easily replace other proprietary databases saving huge bucks.
    • For setting up high performance computing labs in academics institute using parallel knoppix .
    • Bandwidth management can also be done easily using Untangle.
