HISTORY• Motorola started in Chicago, Illinois as Galvin Manufacturing Corporation in 1928, with its first product being a battery eliminator. Company founder Paul V. Galvin created the brand name Motorola for the car radio—linking "motor" (for motorcar) with "ola" (which implied sound). Thus the Motorola brand meant sound in motion. The name Motorola was adopted in 1930, and the word has been used as a trademark since the 1930s.
INNOVATIONS DONE BY MOTOROLA• IN1930s Motorola began developing two-way radio communications equipment and Motorola was the first company to introduce the car radio that were used for mainly public safety officers.• IN1940s Motorola developed the world’s first handheld radio, the Handie-Talkie portable two-way radio, designed for the U.S. military. • IN 1983s After 10 years and more than a US$100 million investment, Motorola received type acceptance for and created the worlds first portable cellular phone system and worlds first handheld cell phone, the DynaTAC 8000X and that’s changed the life around the world.• IN 1991s Motorola demonstrated the worlds first working- prototype digital cellular system and phones using GSM standard in Hanover, Germany.• IN 1994s Motorola introduced the worlds first commercial digital radio system that combined paging, data and cellular communications and voice dispatch in a single radio network and handset
