Parent Fact Sheet - Presentation Transcript

    1. PARENT FACT SHEET WHAT IS THE HUSKY SPORTS BAND? We are a group of students that enjoy working hard, playing great music, having fun, and performing for athletic and community events. We don’t march, but we wear uniforms and have a drumline. WHAT DOES IT TAKE TO BE A MEMBER? There is no audition to join the band, but attendance at rehearsals and performances is mandatory. You must be registered for MUSP 168 to be a member. You may register for MUSP 168 as either a 0 credit or 1 credit class. If registered as a 1 credit class you will be charged the appropriate tuition rate, but if registered as a 0 credit class there is no charge. HOW MUCH DOES IT COST TO BE A MEMBER? Uniform shirts are provided, instruments are available for rental, gloves are $1 a pair and you will be required to wear black pants, black socks, and black shoes. HOW MUCH TIME DOES IT TAKE? Full band practice is every Tuesday from 7-9pm with drumline practice every Sunday from 7-9pm. Members often have part-time jobs and belong to other clubs. Good time-management is important. WHAT IS THE $150 SPORTS BAND AWARD? The $150 Sports Band Award is paid to each band member who is at every rehearsal and performance during the semester and registered for MUSP 168. Student leaders such as the Drum Major, Music Librarian, Equipment Manager, etc. earn larger amounts. The awards recognizes the musical contribution that the Husky Sports Band makes to the university community. WHERE DOES THE HUSKY SPORTS BAND PERFORM? Husky Sports Band performs for football, basketball and hockey games in addition to local community events. We do not perform for all athletic events. WHO TEACHES THE HUSKY SPORTS BAND? Mr. Tuomaala is the Director and Mr. Pfannenstein is the Percussion Instructor. Both teachers have extensive marching band and drum & bugle corps experience. www.HuskySportsBand.com
