Control, Monitoring system for Cold store, ripening chambers Control, Monitoring system for Cold store, ripening chambers Presentation Transcript

  • By Vinod Gogoriya Intelligent Gas Alarm India Pvt Ltd (c) Intelligent Gas Alarm India Pvt Ltd 1
  • Topics covered: Why gas monitoring is needed Importance of proper ventilation for long-lasting, fresh & safe products Topology of the system and component integration Monitoring parameters Horticulture cold stores monitoring Ripening chamber monitoring Meat etc processing and cold stores (c) Intelligent Gas Alarm India Pvt Ltd 2
  • Need of Gas Monitoring: Agriculture and horticulture products produce CO2 (carbon dioxide) gas during breathing. High CO2 concentration reduce breathing, thereby form dull & wrinkle skin, low skin shine, high sweetness (specially in case of potatoes etc). Reduce product weight, market price. High CO2 also reduce O2 concentration resulting in anaerobic decomposition. Low O2 also cause darkening of potato chip color, ultimately result in decay of interior cell with black heart. (c) Intelligent Gas Alarm India Pvt Ltd 3 CO2 Monitoring:
  • Need of Gas Monitoring: Agriculture and horticulture products get reverse photosynthesis recycle after harvesting and storage. Low O2 cause anaerobic fermentation, skin wrinkle, black skin spots, low skin shine. Reduce moisture contents Reduce weight Reduce quality (c) Intelligent Gas Alarm India Pvt Ltd 4 O2 Monitoring:
  • Need of Gas Monitoring: Ammonia is used as refrigerant in chillers and refrigeration plants. Ammonia is very toxic gas for biological life and human and life thretening with TWA = 25 ppm Ammonia leakage can percolate to stored items and thereby enter food chain. Ammonia can damage with corrosive effect on stored items (c) Intelligent Gas Alarm India Pvt Ltd 5 Ammonia Monitoring:
  • Need of Gas Monitoring: Though normally freon gases are non-toxic directly, freon leakage cause oxygen depletion in the ambient air, thereby suffocation, death etc. Freons are either CFC or HCFC, and cause considerable damage to ozone layer. Freon leakage can sometime lead to fire, causing considerable damage to assests. (c) Intelligent Gas Alarm India Pvt Ltd 6 Freon (R134, R22, R410 etc) Monitoring:
  • Need of Gas Monitoring: Ethylene is natural ripening agent and produced & emitted by ripening, sugary fruits / items Ethylene cause sweetening of fruits and products Over ripening cause fermentation and damage to products, thereby ethylene concentration need to be control and keep under required limits. Low ethylene concentration cause under-ripening, hence low market price of the products, while high ethylene concentration can damage products, increasing spoilage. (c) Intelligent Gas Alarm India Pvt Ltd 7 Ethylene Monitoring:
  • Need of Gas Monitoring: Temperature and humidity is another must control parameter High temperature will increase metabolic activities in the stored product, thereby spoiling it. Low temperature will freeze up the inside content and reduce natural sweetness and taste, sometime forming carbohydrate, sucrose crystals High humidity will increase moisture content in the stored items, leading to bacterial and worm formation. Sometimes, dew formation also lead to consideration spoilage. Low humidity will reduce weight, sweetness, natural flavour and increase in rejected items. (c) Intelligent Gas Alarm India Pvt Ltd 8 Temperature & humidity Monitoring:
  • Importance of monitoring and ventilation: All the above discussed parameters are to be monitored according to stored items. Proper and automated monitoring and ventilation is advised. Manual monitoring and intervention is liable to fail, leading to considerable losses (c) Intelligent Gas Alarm India Pvt Ltd 9
  • System Topology & Schema: (c) Intelligent Gas Alarm India Pvt Ltd 10 Room 2 Room 1 Central monitoring unit
  • Potato Cold Stores: Carbon dioxide monitoring – 0-2% or 0-5% Vol Temperature monitoring Humidity monitoring Ammonia leakage monitoring – 0-300ppm Freon leakage monitoring (c) Intelligent Gas Alarm India Pvt Ltd 11 Monitor & Control Parameters:
  • Controlled Atmosphere Chambers: Carbon dioxide monitoring – 0-2% or 0-5% Vol Oxygen monitoring – 0-25% Vol Ethylene Monitoring Temperature monitoring Humidity monitoring Ammonia leakage monitoring – 0-300ppm Freon leakage monitoring (c) Intelligent Gas Alarm India Pvt Ltd 12 Monitor & Control Parameters:
  • Agricultural product Cold Stores: Carbon dioxide monitoring – 0-2% or 0-5% Vol Ethylene Monitoring Temperature monitoring Humidity monitoring Ammonia leakage monitoring – 0-300ppm Freon leakage monitoring (c) Intelligent Gas Alarm India Pvt Ltd 13 Monitor & Control Parameters:
  • Ripening Chamber: Carbon dioxide monitoring – 0-2% or 0-5% Vol Ethylene Monitoring Temperature monitoring Humidity monitoring Ammonia leakage monitoring – 0-300ppm Freon leakage monitoring (c) Intelligent Gas Alarm India Pvt Ltd 14 Monitor & Control Parameters:
  • Meat, sea food Cold Stores: H2S monitoring – 0-50 ppm Carbon monoxide monitoring Temperature monitoring Humidity monitoring Ammonia leakage monitoring – 0-300ppm Freon leakage monitoring (c) Intelligent Gas Alarm India Pvt Ltd 15 Monitor & Control Parameters:
  • Pharmaceutical, medicine Cold Stores: Temperature monitoring Humidity monitoring Mixed Gas Monitoring for toxicity Ammonia leakage monitoring – 0-300ppm Freon leakage monitoring (c) Intelligent Gas Alarm India Pvt Ltd 16 Monitor & Control Parameters:
