Whats in the Box Cowon D2, Stylus, Earphones, USB Cable, AC Adapter, QuickGuide,Installation CD.Battery life is unbeatable. For those who, like me, hate having to plugthings in for charging, theres nothing like this one. Its nice to have beenlistening to music and audio books for days and look down to see that youstill have 3 out of 4 bars on the battery indicator.Sound quality is superb. Very adjustable volume control as well as lots ofways to adjust the sound, tone, playing speed.I bought this a year ago this month, and it still works great. Ive sincebought a silicone skin and a screen protector for it to keep it in goodshape. It works fine in my back pocket while jogging, or front pocket doingyard work. Its nice for long car trips, too. I also use it for listening to trackswhile I try to play them back by ear.The controls/buttons are well designed and handy to use. The attachedstylus is handy for finer selection. Its pretty easy to jump around in a trackto find what you want. When you turn it off, it saves your place and starts again at the same placein the trac k and with the same playback settings. You can also savebookmarks, which is handy, although they dont seem to work correctly withVERY large (e.g. 339MB) MP3 files.
The A-B playback function is handy at times, and works, although the wayits designed leaves something to be desired. The sound recorder is a nice feature. It cant compete with devicesspecifically made for recording, but it works well enough to be useful. Itsaves in WMA format, and you can adjust the compression quality. Iveused it for:- taking voice memos- recording songs I want to look up later- recording my cousins violin recital- recording performances of my own for self-critique- discretely recording conversations to protect myselfThe mic is sensitive to vibrations, and I sometimes get bad compressiondefects, but its still a useful feature. I may get the line-in cord some day.The radio cant compete with home stereo systems that have goodantennas, but its certainly better than some of the other cheesy so-calledradios Ive seen. Stronger/local stations will come in fine, and you canrecord it, too.You can watch videos or browse through pictures, but I dont think Im goingto pass up my high-res 20 monitor to watch something on this.Theres a .txt reader, which could be handy for carrying around need-to-know info, like a text-based address book or something.Theres a function to draw in multiple colors with the stylus. Not much usefor it, but could be handy for writing things down or drawing little things ifyou lack a pen and paper. The flash player is an interesting function. Its not compatible witheverything - some .swf files just dont work, or work with small defects. Also, theres no sound, and you cant li sten to music while you use it either.Youre limited to things that use ONLY the 4 arrow keys XOR click/dragcontrols (no hover on a touchscreen), and that dont require super -fastsuper-accurate clicks. Ive tried various games, like chess, checkers, roadblock, etc., and various utilities, like calculators. The problem isfinding one that actually works well on the computer, let alone on the not-quite-compatible D2.Doesnt have a camera/videocam/PC-cam, text entry, PocketOffice, PDFreader, phone, browser, GPS, etc., but what it does it does well.Sometimes those everything devices dont do anything well.I have yet to try a firmware upgrade or user-modified firmware, but I valuethat option, and will probably try it in the near future. Ive just never h ad thetime/need to play with it.
The earbuds it ships with are good quality, if not audiophile approved.(Unfortunately I ripped mine apart when I caught the cord on a doorknob.)SD card expansion is nice, although Ive never used it. (I dont have anySD cards.) It takes a full size SD card, which looks huge compared totodays microSD/TF cards.Im not too fond of their software for it, but it works. I dont have it installedanymore - I just attach it as a USB drive.Cowons slogan is Digital Pride, and they have a right to claim it. Kudos toKorean engineering.
