  • 2. About: Office of Web Communications
    • Formed in late November 2006
    • One director: Graham Garner
    • One full-time senior web developer: Laird Duncan
    • Three student positions (two filled)
      • Joe Marley
      • Derek Aitken
    • Maintain home page and second-level pages
    • Create special sites, such as Rendezvous Complex and Presidential Inauguration
    • Establish maintenance agreements
  • 3. Purpose and Goals
    • Create consistent design and function of ISU’s web presence
    • Reinforce branding image of the University
    • Maintain best practices at both front and back ends of the site (design view vs. coding)
    • Keep dated materials up-to-date
    • Eliminate broken links and “Under Construction” pages
    • Enforce World Wide Web Consortium (W3C) and ADA standards for usability
  • 4. Issues to Address: Compliance
    • SSIs
    • Branding
    • Templates
  • 5. Issues to Address: Security
    • Who has access/belongs to publishing groups
    • Cease using these directories as storage spaces
    • Y-drive exposure
    • Deleting web sites
  • 6. Issues to Address: Server Access
    • Other servers, i.e. Pharmacy, Business, Education, Physics
    • Contact information for server administrators
  • 7. Issues to Address: Web Developers
    • Everyone aware of current standards and efforts
    • Web Communications acts as clearinghouse and focal point
    • Other web workers need to coordinate with us
  • 8. Upcoming Issues
    • Search engine replacement
    • Redesign timeline (flexible)
      • Started Oct. 15
      • Templates by Feb. 1
      • Beta site by Spring Break (March 24)
      • New site goes live (July 1)
