Looks good; think I’ll use a selection of these slides for my geography classes. Have posted it to my Facebook page, too.

Your presentation is visually lovely with beautiful graphics and impressive pictures throughout. Unfortunately, it is seriously lacking from a scientific perspective. The global warming science you use as a basis has been substantially discredited with the result that your presentation is at best misleading and often just plain wrong. One glaring example is on slide #57 where you state. “We can stop global warming.” Climate scientists have many different, often conflicting, perspectives on the science, but there is a consensus on a critical point. That is, the Kyoto Protocol will do nothing to significantly slow global warming.

Your suggestions on how each of us can help solve global warming (planting trees, changing light bulbs, employing wind power, etc.) may be useful in protecting the environment and helping us become energy independent and further, they and may make one feel good for doing something, anything , to try to make a positive difference. None of these however will have a meaningful impact on reducing the earth’s temperature.

For a more creditable presentation on the science of global warming I suggest you check out:

what's up with Global Warming - Presentation Transcript

  1. GLOBAL WARMING
  2. It should NOT be confused with climate change
  3. What is global warming?
    • GLOBAL WARMING
    • is the increase of the Earth’s average surface temperature due to a build-up of greenhouse gases in the atmosphere.
    • CLIMATE CHANGE
    • is a broader term that refers to long-term changes in climate, including average temperature and precipitation.
    Difference
  4. Increase in the average measured temperature of the Earth's surface air and oceans
  5. How Global Warming Works Greenhouse gases Fossil fuels (coal, oil, natural gas) Carbon Dioxide (CO 2 )
  6. CAUSES OF GLOBAL WARMING
  7. Pollution from coal, natural gas, and oil
  8. CO 2 from airplanes & vehicles
  9. POPULATION INCREASE
  10. DEFORESTATION
  11. Increased CO 2 results in
  12. Greenhouse Effect
  13. The Sun’s energy passes through the car’s windshield. This energy (heat) is trapped inside the car and cannot pass back through the windshield, causing the inside of the car to warm up. Example of the Greenhouse Effect
  14. Global warming causes
  15. Melting of glaciers
  16. Polar Bear Extinction
  17. Warmer waters and more hurricanes
  18. Increased probability and intensity of droughts and heat waves
  19. Increased Temperature
  20. Melting Polar ice caps
  21. Animals like……

  23. THESE…..
  24. think like……
  25. WHERE IS my habitat…!!!
  26. THIS….
  27. ANTARCTICA – losing ice faster..!!!!!! BEFORE NOW
  28. Major CONSEQUENCE of global warming is…………. GUESS WHAT !!

  40. Its all because of
  41. GLOBAL WARMING
  42. CAUSED BY WHOM…?????
  43. WHO Is THE CULPRIT??????
  44.
  45. WE are the ones causing It
  46.
  47. BUT
  48. WE need PROOF
  49. SO Here’s the PROOF

  52. When did global warming start?
  53. Global Atmospheric Concentration of CO 2
  54. DON’T CRY
  55. It’s NOT too LATE ACT NOW!!!!
  56. We can stop global warming!
  57. JUST DO…………these Follow the arrow…..
  58. Spread awareness
  59. Turn off your computer or the TV when you’re not using it.
  60. Turn off the lights when you leave a room.
  61. Be Bulb Smart—Use CFLs Incandescent Compact Fluorescent
    • 1,430 lbs. CO 2 pollution avoided
    • $30 saved
    500 lbs. of coal
  62. Dress lightly when it’s hot instead of turning up the air conditioning.
  63. Unplug unused electronics
  64. Plant trees.
  65. Recycle.
  66. Drive LESS, drive SMART Use a bicycle or bus
  67. AND
  68. Have Faith on……………
  69. Wind Power
  70. Solar Power
  71. Fuel efficient cars
  72. Hey…..!!! Its working
  73. Global Warming: Shifting Gears
  74. 2007 Goal: Reductions in CO 2 Per Year Billions of Metric Tons Carbon
  75. BUT
  76. 2007 Reductions in CO 2 Per Year Gigaton Carbon Produce electricity efficiently Use electricity efficiently Vehicle efficiency Solar and Wind Power Biofuels Carbon capture and storage Billions of Metric Tons Carbon Our Goal
