At a weight loss meeting, a man has been told that he can have three-quarters of two-thirds cup of cottage cheese. Instead of using methods that he learned in calculus class, the man uses cues from the environment to solve the problem. He puts cottage cheese in the measuring cup to the two-thirds level. Then he dumps the cottage cheese onto the cutting board, forms it into a circle, marks it with a cross, and takes three of the resulting sections as his meal – thus three-quarters of two-thirds. By Marie Kennedy, Marty Stonecypher and Donna Webber (2003)
