  10. 10. III. osnovna šola Celje, SloveniaIII. OŠ Celje is a smaller primary school located inthe heart of Celje. It is one of 8 primary schools inand around the city of Celje and currently has 372pupils with 38 staff members. Unlike some otherprimary schools around Europe, Slovene primaryschools educate pupils from the early age of 6 upuntil they are 14-15 years old. This puts us in aunique position to follow our pupils’ development fromsmall children into young adults more closely. It isboth a challenge and a huge responsibility. The schoolbuilding itself is over 100 years old and was alwaysused as an educational institution. It has been a pri-mary school for over 50 years now and has beensomewhat renovated. The original building was with-out a gym which was added on later. There are alsotwo outside playgrounds mostly used for sport activi-ties and after school programmes.III. OŠ Celje offers a variety of subjects, most ofwhich are determined by the state, we do, however, offer some specific programmes other schools donot. For example we are currently one of the rarer OCTOBER 2012schools to be offering a mandatory second foreignlanguage and an optional third one for pupils from 12to 15 years old. We also offer special interest pro-grammes like chess education, different sport activi- MON TUES WED THUR FRID SAT SUNties (cycling, football, badminton, hiking, etc.), knit-ting, drama club, debate club, book and film club and 1 2 3 4 5 6 7many more.It is our wish and goal to make our pupils feel appre- 8 9 10 11 12 13 14ciated and welcome to our school as well as any otherguests who pay us a visit. We may be relatively smallin size but big in spirit and enthusiasm. It is due to 15 16 17 18 19 20 21this last reason that we started reaching out toother schools outside Slovenia almost 10 years ago 22 23 24 25 26 27 28and we will probably never stop.
