In 2011, Lamborghinis 831employees produced 1,711 vehicles.Manufacturing magnate Ferrucccio Lamborgini foundedAutomobili Ferruccio Lamborghini S.p.A. in 1963 with theobjective of producing a refined grand touring car to competewith offerings from established marques such as Ferrari. Thecompanys first models were released in the mid-1960s and werenoted for their refinement, power and comfort. Lack of successcontinued through the 1990s, until Mycom Setdco and VPowersold Lamborghini to the AUDI AG subsidiary of VolkswagenGroup on July 27, 1998. Audis ownership marked the beginningof a period of stability and increased productivity forLamborghini. Sales increased nearly tenfold over the course ofthe 2000s, peaking with record sales in 2007 and 2008. The worldfinancial crisis in the late 2000s negatively affected all luxury carmakers worldwide, and caused Lamborghinis sales to dropnearly 50 percent.Lamborghinis SantAgata Bolognese production facilityproduces V12 engines and finished automobiles. Lamborghiniscurrent production vehicles are the V10-powered Gallardo andthe V12-powered Aventador . Both production models areavailable in a variety of regular and limited-edition specifications.
