  • 2. Social (Vietnamese Side)
  • 3. After the war, Vietnamese lived in shanty towns, where prostitution, poverty, and drug abuse were common.
  • 4. 5 million Vietnamese were displaced from their homes Towns and villages were destroyed from bombing
  • 5. They traveled by sea and became known as “ boat people ” , who many were murdered or drowned by pirates.
  • 6. Social (American Side)
  • 7. American soldiers received a cold greeting when they returned from war
  • 8. American soldiers had trouble adjusting to civilian life
  • 9. When American soldiers returned, many had post-traumatic stress.
  • 10. Americans became suspicious of sending troops to wars they thought they couldn ’ t win easily.
  • 11. Some American troops that handled chemicals (like Agent Orange) contracted Cancer.
  • 12. 30% of American soldiers used drugs because they were easily available and cheap.
  • 13. Health (Vietnamese Side)
  • 14. Vietnamese had high levels of dioxin (which was used in Agent Orange) The levels were three times as high as Americans ’
  • 15. Unexploded Mines Bombing caused numerous deaths and injuries.
  • 16. Environmental
  • 17. Poisoned rivers Poisoned streams
  • 18. Destroyed 5.4 million acres of forest areas and animals and plants living there.
  • 19. Damaged crops which led to food shortages
