  3. 3. Brief History <ul><li>Page Rank was developed at Stanford University by Larry Page. </li></ul><ul><li>Page rank was first introduced by Google inc. </li></ul><ul><li>Page Rank is based on citation analysis that was developed in the 1950s by Eugene Garfield. </li></ul>

What is a Page Rank? <ul><li>Page rank is a method for defining the value of a website using visitor viewing. </li></ul><ul><li>It is actually processed by a link analysis algorithm. </li></ul><ul><li>It is usually measured in a scale between 1-10. </li></ul><ul><li>If the page rank is less than 1then it’s a N/A (not available). </li></ul>

Is Page rank important? <ul><li>Page Rank reflects our views on the importance of a web page. </li></ul><ul><li>Pages that we consider to be important receives higher page rank. </li></ul><ul><li>Casting Ads in Websites with higher page rank is Expensive. </li></ul><ul><li>It can be an effective and viable marketing strategy to buy link advertisements and increase a webmaster's link popularity. </li></ul>

What is concept of page rank? <ul><li>It is actually processed by a link analysis algorithm. </li></ul><ul><li>A person randomly clicking on links will arrive at any particular page. </li></ul><ul><li>The webpage which have the link has lesser page rank than the particular page which corresponds the link. </li></ul>

Link Analysis - Case 1 <ul><li>Let's consider a 3 page site (pages A, B and C) with no links coming from outside. </li></ul><ul><li>We will allocate each page an initial Page Rank of 1. </li></ul><ul><li>The maximum page rank can be 3,but with no page link its just 0.45(.15 each). </li></ul><ul><li>The site is wasting its potential page rank. </li></ul>A B C
