Besides this, housing is also meant for the people who want to spend their weekends in a cool, calm and holy place where they can breath, relax, meditate, play and enjoy the nature away from the congestion and tension of daily life of metropolitan or some other city. This will also fulfil the requirement of a good home for the retired people who want to settle down in serene surroundings. Vrindavan - A holy City Vrindavan, most important town of Brij around 15 kms from Mathura is situated on the bank of the holy river Yamuna. It is 135 kms. away from Delhi and is connected with railways and roadways. The nearest airport is Agra around 67 kms. away from Vrindavan. Vrindavan is a major place of pilgrims attracting about 5 lakh pilgrims every year. The famous temples and places in Vrindavan are Banke Bihari, ISKCON, Vrindavan Parikarama, Krishna Balarama, Kesari ghat, Govandji, Rang ji, Glass, Madan Mohan, Radha Damodar, Radha-Gokulnanda, Radha Gopinath, Seva kunj and so many others. The name 'Vrindavan' is derived from 'Vrinda' another name from the basil ( sacred Tulsi plant for Hindus) where Lord Krishna as a child and in adolescence used to play and graze his cows along-with other shepherd boys and girls. It is here that he performed many of his leelas or games to enlighten the people about his divinity. It is here that great saints and yogis realized the ultimate, not by going through the rigours of Hatha Yoga but through. Bhakti Yoga or complete surrender in love and not submission, that the great saints became one with the supreme in the form of Lord Krishna and his divine consort Radha. A legend has it that the entire place was a tulsi grove at one time. According to another tradition, it was named after Vrinda Devi, one of Krishna's playmates. Once the great Emperor Akbar was taken blindfolded inside the grove where he had some kind of a spiritual experience. As a result, he acknowledged the spot as being holy ground.
