Transcript

  • 1. Understanding Social Class and Education. By Megan and Matt
  • 2. Social Class
    • Arrangement of people in society in economic or cultural groups.
    • (upper class, middle class, and lower class)
  • 3. Social Class and Education
    • Do different social classes have the same opportunity for education?
  • 4. Example: Decile System
    • The idea of giving different funding for different social classes from the government to create equal opportunity.
  • 5. Pros
    • Providing schools with funding to gain resources.
    • For example: A low decile school without computers could be able to purchase one, or a few.
  • 6. Cons
    • Lower class not having the resources at home.
    • For example: Parents having long hours at work and having lack of education themselves. Focus at home could be more about acquiring skills to go into the workforce, to increase income for the family.
