Editor's Notes
The workshop is organized by two different and very active researchers communities, each representing a broad thematic research field: on the one hand urban studies which is covered by “het stadsplatform”of the UAB and on the other hand ICT dedicated to modern IC T applications running on top of wirred and wireless communication networks , covered by the iBrussels team. In the workshop of today we would like to initiate a question/answer dialogue: a dialogue about the expectations of the city with respect to ICT infrastructure and services and what can be expected from the ICT world. The university is an ideal platform where this kind of dialogue can be conducted in structured ways supported by scientific expertise. As you can see from the participants list, stakeholdrers from industry, government, Brussels city area’s, the international R&D community and experts that have conducted similar projects in the area of digital or electronic cities have been invited to exchange idea’s. At VUB, we treasure the open debate culture, which means that controversial subjects have to be analyzed by confronting all viewpoints and opposing idea’s must receive the opportunity to be discussed in constructive dialogues. That is why I want to announce right from thestart of the workshop an unexpected and not announced initiative about the important topic with respect to radiation safety.
