As International Secretary of the young Christian Democrats of The Netherlands -CDJA- and as board member of the Youth of the European People’s Party (YEPP) I warmly congratulate you with this day. My country recognized an independence Ukraine in December 1991. Since the independence, Ukraine faces several challenges. And in fighting these challenges I see many brave and engaged youngsters, young politicians, civil society actors, journalists and others who are willing to make real improvements in Ukraine, even when political circumstances are not easy. Give support to those who stands for a sustainable civil society and support those who stands for a decent, serious and effective political arena. With the Eastern Partnership Summit in Vilnius ahead, the EU will make a decision whether Ukraine made enough progress in its development in order to sign the Association Agreement with the EU. It will be a strong signal when EU’s Association Agreement with Ukraine will be signed. Personally I am in favour of signing the agreement; not for the current leadership, but for you as Ukrainians, as an European start for the new generations of the country. I truly hope the final decision of the head of states and governments will be the same. But, we have to be aware: also after the Summit we need to pay attention and give support to you in facing the challenges which exists. NGO “Chesno” reached with an interesting report the Dutch media several weeks ago1 . I fully support these initiatives which comes from civil society (organisations) and contribute to improvements in your country. Therefore I strongly encourage you to keep going the great work and efforts in creating a sustainable democracy. I wish you, on behalf of CDJA and its international commission, a bright and prosperous future. Have a happy Independence Day 2013! Best Regards, Frank S.
