  1. 1. Austins ColonyBy Hunter Thompson
  2. 2. ArrivalWe came to Austin’s Colony to just start over. Wegot there by sailing on the Lively. We qualified forland because of my dad, mom, sister, me, andour slaves.
  3. 3. ArrivalWe qualified for 1,360 acres of land. The trip onthe Lively was hard, because of little food andwater.
  4. 4. 1822In 1822 the cold harsh winter was very hardwhen we were on the Lively, because many ofthe cattle died.
  5. 5. 1822Also the Lively was very late in arriving, and lotsof building needed lumber
  6. 6. 1823In 1823 there were many problems like the Livelysinking, the dispute with Mexicans over export ofcotton.
  7. 7. 1823Also the small demand for lumber, but there wasa mild winter and a good year for cattle
  8. 8. 1824In 1824 the colony thrived and was the greatestyear in Austin’s colony. Because of the bumpercotton crop.
  9. 9. 1824Also because of the high demand for lumber andfor beef. So the colony did not have anyproblems.
