    • The President PaCikjr, Pofinpei Tederated States of :Micronesia ~ RECEIVED PRESIDENTIAL PROCLAMATION 23 MAR2011 FSMGovt FOR Dept. of Resources FSM NATIONAL WATER DAY & DevelopmentWHEREAS. the Federated States of Micronesias water IS a priceless econornic andenvironmental resource that is vital to the life; andWHEREAS, more than 1 billion people in the world do not have access to clean water anddue to water-related diseases and unsanitary conditions, approximately 1.5 million people dieannually; andWHEREAS. the access to clean and safe water is essential to our existence, and a basichuman right; andWHEREAS. the United Nations General Assembly passed a resolution in 1992 designatingWorld Water Day as an international day of observance and action on March 22 of each yearbe celebrated; andWHEREAS. on March 22, 2011, the FSM will hold a National Water Summit to target thestate or our water resources and their management, and to launch a National WaterCommittee and Water Policy Framework for the FSM; andWHEREAS. the FSM encourages citizens throughout the States to learn more from theNational Water Summit to bring safe water to all our citizens in the FSM;WHEREAS. profiling the importance of clean water would increase public awareness thatprotects and restores freshwater ecosystems in and near our communities; andTHEREFORE.
