How to Insert a YouTube video
into PowerPoint

Options
• You can convert the video into mpgs with free
software that can be downloaded from the
internet – but you have to get IT permission
and worry about viruses
• You can have PostOp do it for you – spend
some money
• Or if you are going to have Internet access in
your meeting you can use the following guide

• Make sure you have live Internet access
• In PowerPoint, go to a new slide (blank layout)

• On the “Developer” tab, go to “Controls” group
• Click the icon of hammer and nail for “More
Controls”

• On the “More Controls” window scroll down and select
“Shockwave Flash Object” in the list
• Click “OK” at the bottom

• You will get a “+” on your screen. Position it on the slide,
hold down the left mouse and make a shape which your
YouTube video will be positioned in (can be resized later)

• Go to the YouTube video you want to grab
• Copy the URL making sure you select the entire address,
right click and select “copy” (or control c)

• Go back to your PowerPoint slide
• Right click the control (box) you draw
• Click “Properties” in the right-click menu
• Go to the “Properties” window

• On the alphabetic tab, click the
“Movie” property
• Paste the address on the movie line
• Edit the URL text by deleting
“watch?” and replace “=“ with “/”
• For instance

http://www.youtube.com/v/49WjrR
J_DLw
• Change Embed Movie to False
• Change Loop to False
• Change Playing to False

• Finally close the “Properties” window and
save your presentation
• You cannot view the YouTube video until you
go to Slide Show
