Pennsylvania cannot be easily differentiated easily through merely looking at the floors. However, there remains a significant difference
between the two. The merits include easy installing and less cost when compared with real wood floorings.
Wood effects, ceramic and stone effects are common effects used in laminate floorings. Laminate floorings are floorings in which the
planks are fixed together. It is not attached with sub floors directly. There isn’t any mess with this flooring.
Laminate floorings are built by wood flooring companies using the famous tongue and groove system. In the process, the tongue in one
plank and a groove in another are made. The groove of one plank is pushed down in the tongue of another plank. The method is used in
laminate floorings as the connection made between the two planks is very tight and can be used to walk straight away.
To avoid accumulation of moist on the floor, a sheet of around 5 mm called a damp proof membrane is laid down first on the concrete
floor. Damp proof membrane is also called DPM. On the top most layers on the DPM, a foam layer is laid down. This helps to correct
small irregularities. The foam is used to absorb sound too. Floor ranges also include built in underlay. If concrete flooring is present in the
house then on DPM, the built in underlay may be laid.
Laminate floors are broken down into two kinds; one is commercial and the other is residential. Commercial category caters to
commercial purposes while the residential category caters to residential purpose.
Commercial purpose includes hotels, offices, shops, malls and residential category includes living rooms, dining rooms and bedrooms.
The layer of laminate is comprised of four kinds of layers in itself. These are as follows:
Overlay- Also called wear layer, it is formed by melamine resin. The resin is highly wearable resistant that make the laminate floor hard.
Because of the resin, the laminate floorings are highly resistant to burns, stains and scratches.
Core layer- In order to make it extremely hard, the layer has a resin in it which is moisture resistant. This becomes important because it
helps to keep the moisture away from the floors. The core layer is made up of high density fibreboard or medium density fibreboard.
Another layer known as the stabilizing layer is the bottommost layer. It provides much stability and is comprised of moisture resistant
resins.
Decorative paper or DPL layer and Decorative paper and high strength paper or HPL-This is a decorative paper giving various designs to
the floors. It includes stone, ceramic and wood designs

And in HPL or the high pressure laminate process, the overlay and the decorative paper are pressed together onto the paper that is of
good tensile strength. After that the core layer is glued to the high pressure laminate. This allows the floors to be tougher.
