  • 1. Phoenix VA Medical Center hiring 1,000 The Phoenix VA Medical Center, which has been short-staffed for several years, has begun the process of hiring 1,000 physicians, nurses and clerical workers as part of a new effort to improve the VA system nationwide.
  • 2. Newly appointed U.S. Secretary of Veterans Affairs Robert McDonald visited Phoenix on Friday to meet with veterans and VA health providers, marking his first VA Medical Center visit as secretary. He said he plans to clean up the VA system, making all 341,000 employees accountable and focused on a single mission of serving veterans. "We're an unconnected organization," he said. As part of the cleanup, the Joint Commission, known for its tough quality inspections at the nation's hospitals, will conduct an independent review of every VA medical center in the nation, beginning in September. McDonald also said there should be no retaliation against whistleblowers, saying they are crucial to the success of organizational improvement. Paula Pedene has been experiencing retaliation since blowing the whistle on Phoenix VA management in 2011, exposing misappropriation of funds and a hostile work environment under its former director, Gabriel Perez. He retired after an investigation by the Office of Inspector General. "It's not whistleblowing," McDonald said. "It's improving." Pedene lauded the new VA leadership. "The new VA leaders are working diligently with the office of special counsel on VA whistleblower disclosures and reprisal," she said. "Continued dialogues will help reveal the outcomes of those efforts. I remain hopeful."

  • 8. CERTIFIED NURSING ASSISTANTS - APPLY TODAY - WE NEED YOU ON OUR TEAM! APPLY ONLINE HERE: https://dependablestaffing.jobs/appForm.aspx?p=cna THEN CALL FOR APPOINTMENT: 602.264.1444 or 1.888.888.1968 ============================================================ HMSHOST @ SKY HARBOR NOW HIRING APPLY ONLINE @ WWW.HMSHOST.com CRITICALLY IMPORTANT TIPSTER: Listen up! THEY NEVER PULL APPLICATIONS FROM THEIR WEBSITE UNLESS YOU ARE THE IRON CHEF AND ARE WILLING TO WORK FOR MINIMUM WAGE; doesn’t mean that they will hire you then…they may just want to see what is wrong with you. You need to bite the bullet on this if you want this job and really “GO OLD SCHOOL” after you apply online, look up their HR Office over at TERMINAL THREE at Sky Harbour Airport, and get yourself spruced up in your best AZ Casual Clothes (Trim any facial hair or shave…they are nice people but, they are old school too) and go over and introduce yourself while asking them to pull your application. If you impress them with your personality, availability and your motivation, they will. One last thing, UMOM Campers already know this but, if they hire you, it is based upon how you answer one question (both in what you say but, also, in how you say it).
  • 9. The question ties into motivation for the prep cooks, cashiers, hosts and a combination of motivation tied into you skill set (experience here counts) for the productions cooks and Baristas. You need to go over there with you “A” Game or do not waste the trip! The reason why you may want to do this can be found at www.hmshost.com. ============================================================ You will not see the actual position posted on the website, apply to the closest one available THEN, when you go visit their HR OFFICE at terminal #3…(YOU ARE GOING OVER, RIGHT?) have a list of the positions that you applied for. Tell this way “I was interest in _____ position @ _______but, I am open to other opportunities that might be open or that you feel that I would be a better fit?” DO NOT…DO NOT REPLY “ANYTHING!” THAT WILL TAKE YOU FROM A SERIOUS HERO TO ZERO WITH THEM. Remember if you do not come across as serious about doing a specific job, specifically for them, then they will not do anything for you. By using the above script, you show that you are serious but flexible…I know that it is playing games with words but it is important in how you say this. ====================================================== Barrio Cafe HIRING experienced cooks DATELINE: SKY HARBOR. $9.25-$12.00 HMSHost has immediate openings for experienced Line Cooks to join our team at Barrio Cafe in the Phoenix Sky Harbor Airport. • 12. ASU Karsten Golf Course - 1125 E Rio Salado Pkwy, Tempe, AZ 85281 Line Cook- Full Time and Part Time High School education or its equivalent. Must have local health and alcohol awareness certification. Basic cooking skills - Food handler's certification. Please apply in person at the ASU Karsten Golf Course TIPSTER: Better do your homework because, (I bet) even you can see that this job description makes everyone qualified for this job. The first advantage is that you must go over to ASU to apply and many people will think that is too far or too hot to go out in the afternoon sun. That is a shame because they are right near the lite rail but it means that fewer people will make the trip. The second advantage you make for yourself by doing your homework in learning all you can about the golf course (food & Beverage) and their menu…you will have read the consumer reviews and worked those comments into your conversation. You will need to know who Armour Black is and why he is important to you getting hired (or not). You will go out between 2-4 PM and take your “A” Game to introduce yourself. If you are on the shy side of experience, focus on your skills and abilities by using ONET Online to flush out the details on what you have to offer. If you fail do this and your biggest selling point is that “Burger Kind didn’t hire me!” then, you should just quietly go on to the next ad that may require less commitment on your part to getting the job. 35-2014.00 - Cooks, Restaurant - http://www.onetonline.org/link/summary/35-2014.00

  • 16. ,Every day thousands of women play a critical role in making the United Brotherhood of Carpenters and Joiners of America the best union in North America. UBC women are in every area of the trade and the union: as foremen, superintendents and lead instructors; on the staff of Councils and locals; and, of course, on jobsites—as carpenters on all kinds of projects, millwrights fine-tuning turbines, pile drivers, floor layers, and mill-cab and industrial workers. Sisters are indeed helping to build today's UBC. Sisters in the Brotherhood supports female members by providing assistance in obtaining craft training and leadership skills; by being advocates on women issues; and by mentoring new members and even potential members. SIB conferences offer opportunities to network and participate in workshops that expose women to UBC history and develop skills to become more active within the union. SIB events, meetings, and resources, both local and online, offer substantive support for women members in every Council. SIB encourages women to participate in training, develop their skills and job performance, and value productivity and leadership. Emily Golnazarian – Ambridge, Pennsylvania (Local 2274). “If you want stability, if you want a future, if you want a career, then you should definitely, 100 percent go for it.” That’s the advice Emily Golnazarian has for any female military veteran who is considering a career as a union carpenter. And her emphasis is on the word “union.” A former marine who found work for seven years as a non- http://www.ubcsisters.org/
  • 17. union carpenter in framing houses, Emily was forced to look for another job when the failing economy caused her to be laid off. “I was always advised to join the union, but I was loyal to my boss. I didn’t want to leave him,” she said. “But I did some research online and found Helmets to Hardhats, and I joined the carpenters union. It’s the best thing I ever did.” A first-year apprentice with Local 2274 out of Ambridge, Pennsylvania, Emily has been steadily employed since becoming a sister in the United Brotherhood of Carpenters. Her work spans from heavy highway on a large bridge project in Pittsburgh, to interior systems work in a suburban high school. In the short first year of her UBC career, Emily says her quality of life has already increased. “I made $15 an hour for seven years with no benefits. The only way to make a good living non-union is to own your own company. Being with the UBC I also like the stability and training. The upgrade classes really open doors to a lot of opportunities.” Emily’s “can do” attitude and solid skills on the jobsite have earned her the attention of her employer, Mascaro Construction – a large and established contractor in Pittsburgh. And that’s just fine with her, since her goal is to be a foreman or superintendent someday. “I was asked to meet with the owner of the company, and was told they thought well of the job I was doing,” Emily recalls. ======================================== Apprenticeship Qualifying and Selection Procedure Equal Employment Opportunity Pledge The recruitment, selection, employment and training of apprentices by the Arizona Carpenters Apprenticeship and Training Program shall be without discrimination because of race, color, religion, national origin or sex.
