    • USED JOB SHACK INSIDER…El Pollo Loco THIS IS A SPOILER ALERT!!!! SOME STORES TAKE WALK-INS...FIND OUT WHICH AND GO SEE THEM... Cashier Interview - I applied in-person and the process took 1 week Interview Details – Walked in restaurant and requested a paper application. Filled it out and turned it in directly to the manager right then and there. A couple days later got a phone call to set up an interview at the restaurant in the morning. Dressed in business attire and got to the interview 15mins early. She asked me for proof of authorization to work in the US and asked questions about the food industry etc. I showed her my resume and she showed me some paper work etc. She said she would give me a call if I got the job. That same night I got a phone call to be told I got the job. The next couple days I went in for more paper work and initial training. Interview Question – None, Simple basic questions. Negotiation Details – With no past experience I took the starting 8/hr. pay. ===================================================== Cashier Interview - I applied online and the process took 1 week Interview Details – Got a call for an online application, the manager asked me about my previous employment, which I had none? I got the in-person interview that week. The manager was nice, and after a few questions I got the job. I had to go in and get the background check and then then my first day was a few days after that. So it was a pretty simple process. Had to sign a lot of papers the first day, and read all the procedures, but after the background check day, you get paid for the time you spend there. Interview Question – They were all pretty basic, just kind of have a decent idea of the food at El Pollo Loco before going in, because i had never been, but i went before hand to check it out. And know that this isn’t like McDonalds or Del Taco, El Pollo Locos get soooo busy, you won’t believe the lines. ======================================================== Cashier Interview - I applied in-person and the process took a day Interview Details – i was interviewed by the general manager and ask me a set of questions. Interview Question – How would you describe a great customer service?

I was honestly super excited, because I loved the manager I interviewed with! I was really looking forward to it. She made the job seem enjoyable and completely welcoming. ============================================= Visual Merchandiser Interview - I applied in-person and the process took 4 weeks Interview Details – The whole entire process took 4 weeks; however i applied at the first location for any management job, then another location for visual merchandiser…twice and then again for a different management position. For the interview you'll start with building three outfits… mine were a going out, work, and a must have. You'll then either pass or fail that first task, then next you'll answer actual "sit-down" interview questions. After that, they asked me to design a table based on merchandise they provided. That was for the visual merchandiser position; the assistant manager interview was much harder. Interview Question – What was the most constructive piece of criticism a former boss or current boss ever gave or has given you? Explain why, and if you agreed or disagreed with it. ==============================================
    • Visual Merchandiser Interview - I applied online and the process took 2 weeks Interview Details – I noticed the job posting on the Forever 21 website, so I applied and got a call back about a week later for an interview. I was interviewed by an assistant manager as well as the visual manager. I felt very comfortable in the interview, like I was having a conversation with friends. They are very interested in hiring trend-savvy individuals, so they asked me, "What fashion blogs do you follow?"; "Who are your celebrity style icons?"; and "What is a current fashion trend that you're loving?" They then took me on a tour of the store, and had me pick out a few outfits. In one section of the store, the manager asked me to critique the wall display and asked me what I would add to it (that was probably the most unexpected question for me!). I left thinking the interview went really well. A week later, they called me and offered me the job. Interview Question – "Critique this wall display. What would you have done differently, or what could be added to make it a more effective display?" Negotiation Details – I originally asked for $12. When they told me that they normally start visual merchandisers out at $10, I asked for $10.50. The store manager had to check with her district manager, and she approved me for $10.50 ================================================ Sales Associate Interview - I applied online and the process took a day Interview Details – Well I actually heard through a friend that the mall was opening a new F21 location and having open interviews so I attended and it was pretty quick. I just filled out applications there and then someone interviewed me and after I WAS HIRED ON THE SPOT. Interview Question – The common interview question like "Why you want to work here?' wasn't really anything unexpected. ================================================= Visual Merchandiser Interview - I applied online and the process took 2 days Interview Details – I applied on-line and got a phone call for an in person interview with the store manager. The interview was very relaxed and easy going like a conversation with a friend. I was then scheduled a second phone interview with the district visual manager. The store manager prepped me for the types of questions the district visual manager might ask and assured me I would do great. The phone interview was a little more intense but went very well. My main advice is to relax and be who you are. Yes, definitely highlight your successes and talents, but don't let that hold you back from showing your personality! Management
    • wants to get a taste of who they will be working with and how compatible you will be with co-workers. Interview Question – What trend I would like to see come back and why. I was so wrapped up in the business I was pleasantly surprised with a question about my own interests and opinions. ================================================ WE HAVE A WINNER HERE...REALLY LIKE THIS APPROACH...AND IT WORKED! Head Cashier Interview - I applied in-person Interview Details – I went in and asked for an application and spoke to a manager had a friendly conversation and then asked about the job process. Made sure he remembered my face and came back after I filled it out another day. He remembered me and pushed me to the next manager right away. I made it aware I wanted more than a regular associate position and blew past the group interview even before it happened. Second interview was with the store manager with easy questions, typical things, nothing out of the norm. Interview Question – How would you lead your sales assoc./cashier? ================================================ GAP OUTLET @ AZ MILLSMon-Sat 10a-9p, Sun 11a-6p Park by JC Penney, enter through the store & turn right or enter through entry 2 & turn left. Play attention to the phrasing here as it will be important at the interview. To be safe, I would still go to ONET and cover all my bases. ONET gets me by the computer gatekeeper and all of this new age sales, ninja store warrior gibberish will get me the job at the interview.
    • OUT OF AN INTEREST (AND ACTUALLY A BET THAT I WAS RIGHT)…WE GOT SOME FEEDBACK AS TO WHAT OTHER EXPERIENCED AT RECENT INTERVIEW…HOPE IT HELPS YOU GET HIRED…GOOD HUNTING OLD NAVY ZEN GURU! USED JOB SHACK INSIDER…GAP/OLD NAVY… Assistant Manager - I applied online and the process took 3 days Interview Details – First off you have to go through a background check and a company checklist through their system. Once a potential applicant passes that then they will be called in for an interview. This can take a few weeks but most don't. Once in the interview the store manager, and/ or the district manager will ask you your experience, and what make this job for you. Almost always they will try to get to know you on a personal level in order to see if you would fit in the "Gap" culture. Usually it means that you need to be upbeat, happy and willing to learn, although most managers have different standards. If you are there for more than a half an hour then this is a good thing. Once that interview and if the district manager is not present you will probably be called back to do a second interview usually over the phone as they are busy. Interview Question – • From coming in this store today what would you change to make this store even better than it is now? --------------------------------------------------- Sales Associate - I applied online and the process took 5 days Interview Details – The environment is casual and they do expect you to have a sense of fashion. Interview Question – • How do you keep up with fashion, if at all? --------------------------------------------------- Seasonal Sales Associate - I applied online and the process took 2 weeks Interview Details – I got a call shortly after applying asking if I was interested in an interview at the location. The interview turned out to be a small group interview, and the mood was very
    • relaxed. The hiring manager was young and could easily relate to the applicants (all less than 25 y/o). The questions were pretty straightforward...generally what I expected. Emphasized my proven ability to be a team player based on participation in sports. Was also careful to smile for the majority of the interview - I think that really helped based on the orientation videos that repeatedly tell you to smile! Overall it was an easy interview - everyone there was hired. Interview Question – Nothing too surprising: • Give me an example of a recent occasion where you received great customer service (name the store, what happened, did you report it?). • Give me an example of a recent occasion where you received poor customer service (name the store, what happened, did you report it?). • What do you do if you have a problem with another team member? • What do you do if you realize you made a mistake? (REMINDER...they can check...Yea! Remember the application form you signed? It was a release form that gave them total access to your personnel files. ----------------------------------------------------- Sales Associate - I applied online and the process took 1 week Interview Details – Applying, I believe, is mostly online where you fill out an exceptionally long and thorough questionnaire. Although it is long, I give them props since it gives you a clear idea on what situations you will be encountering. Interview was held in person. Manager asked simple questions on previous work experience, examples of different obstacles/challenges in the store, and how you feel interacting with customers. This is a key to selling and overall satisfaction with your job. Trust me. Interview Question – • Why choose OLD NAVY over other competitive retailers in the area? --------------------------------------------------- Sales Associate Interview - I applied in-person and the process took 5 days Interview Details – The interview was taken in a group of four, interviewing for a seasonal position of sales associate. the group was asked questions about previous work experience as well as how to handle potential situations one might encounter throughout the work day. The interviewing party was very helpful in communicating the type of responses and employees they were looking for. at the end of the interview we were told that we would get a call back in a few days which we did and they discussed availability and set up a time to come in and sign paperwork and begin orientation. Interview Question – • What was one thing that your previous employer wanted you to do differently? ------------------------------------------------------
    • Sales Associate - I applied in-person and the process took 1 week Interview Details – Pretty standard interview to determine the type of person you are. They are focused on finding inviting and customer-oriented team players. Questions are are mainly based on how one would conduct themselves given various simple/difficult retail scenarios. If you are a friendly and helpful person you should do well in the interview. Interview Question – • They ask you to give them a time that you've been dealt with a difficult situation and how you overcame it. ----------------------------------------------------- Sales Associate - I applied online Interview Details – It wasn't as scary as i thought it was going to be. The first interview is done in a group, essentially they want to see if you will stand out with that group, how you contribute to the group and overall how you work in groups. The manager hosting the interview will bring out certain topics like what do you like about the company, why do you think you’re a good fit, where do you see yourself in 5 years...ECT. If you make it past the first interview, you will then be asked to come back for the second interview which will be with the main manager. This will be a one-on-one interview that will cover pretty much what was covered in the first interview, but will focus more on yourself, your availability, your goals and your strengths and weaknesses. Interview Question – • You get about 5 minutes to put different women outfits together for different occasions, and then explain why you chose them. ================================================================ SINCE YOU ARE ALREADY AT THE MALL...STOP IN (NOT DURING LUNCH UNLESS YOU WANT YOUR FEELINGS HURT) about 2PM and tell them that you are very familiar with Garcia's since the have been here in Phoenix for ____(how many years? • TIPSTER: Reality check. The reality if you read their fine print (you know all that stuff you checked without reading on the application) then you would already know what I know (I read it) is that they are fishing. They post the job but tell you that it does not exist. You didn’t see that? Yea! They are accepting applications in the remote case that they would run out of applicants (like if Martians invade and destroy most of their stores before Will Smith nukes them with MS Windows 98…anyway, you get it). Why do they do this? Maybe they know something we don’t about the aliens? Otherwise, they are collecting demographic information on you to prove to the government that they are diverse in their recruiting and sometimes in hiring. They are a federal contractor…any longer answer would go on for a page so I will stop here…just understand it helps them but, doesn’t get you hired (lost your interest with that…right?) The bottom line is you have to be known to them before they will pull your application. That means your cousin is their “Employee of the Month.” It could mean that your Mom goes to church with a manager or your best friend’s dad is a
    • senior guy. It could have meant that you got tired of waiting for them and decided to create an opportunity for yourself. Actually, most people who get hired came in during the off season (everyone with little kids wants to work for them around the holidays – employee discount shopping) and introduced themselves several times. While you may have old lady luck riding with ya when you submit this application…then again… IF YOU REALLY WANT THIS JOB… Old School your way over to the store (2-4PM) and do your BEST Texas Two-Step Introduction to sweeten your odds…IMPRESS THEM WITH YOUR MOTIVATION… IF YOU CAN’T OR WON’T GO IN PERSON…WHY DID YOU APPLY FOR THAT JOB AGAIN? CAN’T AFFORD TO GO? You could have asked for a bus pass…think? TOO FAR? Why did you apply for that job then? TOO BUSY? Then you are already working or have too many things going on to hold a job? Either way, reading this will just upset you…stop now before you get all the way to the end! FINAL TIPSTER SUGGESTION: Never leave a place without their business card and the name of three other people who might be hiring...Here is how you do that... "Sorry you guys aren't hiring...this seems like a really nice place to work...Could I still fill out an application...? Study the main menu and know the specials if you really want to impress them! http://www.tacobell.com/food/tacos ================================================================ USED JOB SHACK INSIDER…TACO BELL… Taco Bell Cashier Interview - applied in-person Interview Details – Interview went well. Asked a few questions about why would I make a good team member and if I had any other work experience. Asked when I was available to work. Interview Question – Nothing was difficult about the interview. Service Champion Interview - applied in-person and the process took a day Interview Details – It was probably the easiest interview I've ever been in. I went into the store to ask if they were hiring, and a shift leader sat down and just had a normal conversation with me. Didn't even ask any questions. Just carried on about customers being crazy that day.
    • Then the GM came out and asked when I could work and if I had any experience (which I didn't.) Then he told me to go buy dickies black work pants and non-slip shoes and show up the next day to get paperwork filled out. Left the company and came back 6 months later with different managers, and they didn't even interview. Old employees I'd worked with just said "Hey I remember you!" And I was given the job without questions. Interview Question – • What you can do. There wasn't anything difficulty. Taco Bell Cashier Interview - applied in-person and the process took 3 weeks Interview Details – I went in for the interview not knowing what to expect the interview was with the general manager and the assistant manager. The general manager seemed to be very nice and polite and had a smile on his face the whole time will the assistant manager seemed pretty angry and seemed like she didn't want to be there. Interview Question – • Name one time where you had to stay positive even though it was hard to. It was something like that. ====================================================== Team Member Interview - I applied online and the process took 1 week Interview Details – The interview was really simple. The manager just asked me things like what my best qualities are why I wanted to work there, the longest I've ever worked at one place, and what shifts I was available. It felt very relaxed and comfortable and only took maybe 15 minutes. Probably one of the best interviews I've ever had. Interview Question – The only thing they asked that kind of threw me off was what I thought teamwork meant, specifically in a job at taco bell. I said something about it being important to have a positive attitude, but I guess the "correct" answer is "working together to achieve a common goal. ======================================================= Crew Member Interview - I applied online and the process took 2 weeks Interview Details – Depending on your district or franchise you can have as many as 3 interviews (One with the assistant store manager, second with the store
    • manager, and third with the district manager). If not you will probably do an interview with just the store manager. Interview questions were basic, they would ask what is your availability, why do you want to work for this company, tell me about yourself, past work experience. Interview Question – • Why do you want to work for us? ======================================================= Shift Lead Interview - applied online and the process took 2+ weeks Interview Details – My hiring interview was at a local taco bell store. I was being interviewed by the district manager; she was 30 minutes late to the interview. I was dressing in black slacks, a navy polo and a jacket. She was dressed in a track suit. On first glance, she commented that my attire does not make it seem like I was even interested in the job. She then proceeded to ask me scenario questions, when dispute questions arose, I answered, "That would have to depend on my training as to how the company would like me to handle that situation." That was not an acceptable answer and I was told to choose something different. After the interview, I was offered a job 10 cents lower that what I was asking, and then told my training store was a 45 minute drive. Interview Question – • If a customer came in to the store, said they were just in the drive thru and then threw a burrito at your face, what would you do? ====================================================== TIPSTER: UMOM CAMPERS, The applications are on the table. There are two of them sitting on either end of the Lola's bar and according to Clarke, they're the best machines available for making large batches of cold brewed coffee. He also says the two Japanese-made machines (which cost upwards of $10,000 each) at Lola are the only two in Arizona. If people are complaining about Salmon Steak, then, I will go out of my way to talk about how (one of my expertise) good my Salmon Steak is…get it? If customers complain about the customer service, then I know that it is an issue to the employer and I will go out of my way to talk about my commitment to the dining pleasure of my guests. ================================================================== THE DOG DAYS OF YOUR JOB SEARCH There comes a time when that no matter how much you try to get a new job, it starts to seem to be the bone that got away. There is a time when no matter what you say, the answer seems to always be “NO.” There comes a time when no matter how many of those 1000’s of killer resumes you sent out seems to never get you a response of an interview. Maybe, it is time to stop doing what you are doing and discover a better way. Maybe, it is time to reboot your all job search with new ideas and methodologies. Stop and think about it. If you are trying to reinvent the wheel to make a wagon to get a horse to ride into town, then it might be time to forget that and put on your walking shoes and start walking to town. Here at the used Job Shack, we have spent over two years in helping you unlearn most of what you ever knew about looking for work. We have shown you great and innovative ways to beat the job search system. It is not hard. In fact, it is easy once you learn the basic rules of how the system works. Then it becomes easy to turn your job search into interviews and interviews into jobs. According to Dr. “Wolie” Will Bitetem, a regional employment expert that advises us here at the Used Job Shack, agrees that the job market has changed and that the old, 1950’s ways (that many still teach) of getting a job will actually prevent you from going to work.
    • Dr. Bitetem says that people, society and what is acceptable to us has changed very much from the 1950’s when Dress for Success was a blue suit and killer resumes were magical in getting you a job. These days (for entry level or re-entry jobs), to spent time and effort (money) to create a killer resume is a total waste of your time. Entry jobs are just that, they hire 16-year-olds (how much experience do they have?) and do not need you to have experience. What they do need is some skills and abilities or for you to demonstrate that you are serious about doing (learning) a specific job, that you have the availability and will show up to work on schedule. A resume is not request, needed or wanted by these employers. They want to see you not a resume. A killer resume (for these jobs) might cost you any of these jobs because it disconnects you from the entry-level job because it clearly shows that you are over qualified. If you are over qualified, then the employer will ponder why you are downgrading yourself, they will question how good you really are, they will wonder how long you will retain an interest in work at this entry-level job. Dr. Bitetem says that it is better to spend your time (efforts) in making yourself a better candidate – do this by doing your homework on the company (for restaurants, study the menu & reviews), take the time you need to find out what skills the employer needs and only after that do you dress up in clean clothes and go over to introduce yourself to the employer. PS….Remember that is what we have been teaching you for two years now. ================================================================= HIRED ONE UMOM CAMPER ALREADY! WANTS TO HIRE MORE! • Walk-In Interviews Welcome No Appointment Necessary. Monday-Friday 9am-6pm and Saturday 10am-4pm PCC Facility at 49 S. Sycamore, Suite 3, Mesa, AZ 85202 You must be 30 years or older to apply. DOG TIRED OF DOING A 100 APPLICATIONS A DAY WITHOUT RESULT? Learn how to be more productive and go to work faster by doing 1-2 application per day (correctly). It is not volume you do per day but knowledge that will get you selected for an interview. Read the Used Job Shack to learn how.
    • Here is a crash course in how to turn a losing job search into a successful job. The truth is that almost everything you have been taught to do is actually wrong (at the entry or re-entry Level). Sounds crazy but, it is sadly true. You have been taught that the resume is the starting point and you so strongly believe it that you cannot look for a job without it. The reality is that when you start with the resume (written with no regards to what an employer needs) you have produced a document that will cost you more jobs than it will ever get you. Why? This type of resume will be too specific that they will say “you would not be interested in that…” or you will be too generic for them to figure out what you do best or “want to do when you grow up.” A manager for a very large corporation instructed me in this believe. She told me that when an applicant applies for multiple positions with her company, she would toss those applications because she does not have the time or the need the desire to spend the time to figure out what you do best. She told me that this was the applicant’s job to figure that out and then, impress her with the reason(s) why. There it is! This is why your generic (one-size-fits-all) killer resume just cost you a job. In fact, your resume has prevented you from getting jobs where they hired people with half of your skills. Let us suggest that if you had started with what this employer needed instead of what you have done, if you had been able to assemble all of those skills or abilities and had shown the employer that you were who they were looking for, it would be you working instead of that other guy. Common sense? It does seem this way now that you see it. Now you know that the employer says that it is your job to figure this entirely out and then make a good case as to how well you match up with what they need. =================================================================== AZ MACY’S BILTMORE FASHION PARK PT BARISTA The Starbucks Barista sells and creates coffee beverages following Starbucks standards providing outstanding customer service through product knowledge. • Experience preferred but not required OPEN INTERVIEWS Looking for Servers, Counter, Delivery Drivers & Kitchen Team Members (Cook, Saute, Prep) ONLY SERIOUS APPLICATIONS WILL BE CONSIDERED WHEN: Monday – Friday - TIME: 2:00pm - 4:00pm WHERE: NYPD PIZZA, 556 W. McDowell Rd. Phoenix, AZ 85003 (NE Corner 7th Ave/McDowell Rd.) WHEN: Monday – Thursday - TIME: 2:00pm - 4:00pm WHERE: NYPD PIZZA, 1949 E. Camelback Rd. Phoenix, AZ 85016 (Camelback/20th St., Next to Fry's) SERIOUS APPLICANT = a person who did their homework, knows the menu/specials, who came dressed for work, has open availability and is not too shy to stop by and impress this employer with how much they really want to work there. If this is you, then you need to get over there before they give you job away to someone who wanted it more. ========================================================================== BARISTA @ HMSHOST Just posted! $8.20/HR. requires the ability to learn and maintain knowledge of Starbuck's products and procedures with some cash handling and customer service experience preferred. APPLY ONLINE: www.hmshost.com Listen up! THEY NEVER PULL APPLICATIONS FROM THEIR WEBSITE UNLESS YOU ARE THE IRON CHEF AND ARE WILLING TO WORK FOR MINIMUM WAGE; doesn’t mean that they will hire you then…they may just want to see what is wrong with you.
    • You need to bite the bullet on this if you want this job and really “GO OLD SCHOOL” after you apply online, look up their HR Office over at TERMINAL THREE at Sky Harbor Airport, and get yourself spruced up in your best AZ Casual Clothes (Trim any facial hair or shave…they are nice people but, they are old school too) and go over and introduce yourself while asking them to pull your application. If you impress them with your personality, availability and your motivation, they will. One last thing, UMOM Campers already know this but, if they hire you, it is based upon how you answer one question (both in what you say but, also, in how you say it). The question ties into motivation for the prep cooks, cashiers, hosts and a combination of motivation tied into you skill set (experience here counts) for the productions cooks and Baristas. You need to go over there with you “A” Game or do not waste the trip! ================================================================== DO NOT…DO NOT REPLY “ANYTHING!” THAT WILL TAKE YOU FROM A SERIOUS HERO TO ZERO WITH THEM. Remember if you do not come across as serious about doing a specific job, specifically for them, then they will not do anything for you. By using the above script, you show that you are serious but flexible…I know that it is playing games with words but it is important in how you say this. =========================================================== Warehouse Clerk (20131108-00452) HMSHOST$9.50/HR. requires a minimum of 0-1 year of warehousing experience. The Warehouse Clerk is responsible for assisting the Warehouse Manager with day-to-day functions of the warehouse. Responsibilities include working with the location merchandise and resolving issues using the retail management system. Apply online @ www.hmshost.com TIPSTER: Hey Campers! If this was true… even old Uncle Bob would qualify. If you believe that no experience = no skills or abilities then, you will never work for these people. Also, read our other tips about how to really get you hired!
    • SPECIAL ISSUE: COSTCO!“…GETTING A JOB HERE IS NOT FOR THE LAZY APPLICANT…” Most people who apply at Costco will NEVER hear from the regarding their application. In fact 8 out of 10 will not get an interview and out of remaining two applications they will interview both and one person MAY get an offer. WOW! That’s tuff! It is impossible to get a job there right? It is impossible ONLY if you don’t know the secret(s) to getting your application seen and thus becoming one of the two that actually get considered. This is not for the faint hearted, those who have (be nice) lazy job seeking skills or those who totally believe that their “KILLER RESUME” is magical and it is soooo good that it can open any door or get them any job…these will be some of those 8 out of ten applicants who don’t get interviewed and the surely won’t be the one hired. Is it that hard? No…but, you must be willing to set-a-side that killer resume and start from scratch. First thing you need to know is… RULE # FOUR This is a very simple question, but in order to give a suitable answer to the recruitment position, you must know how to answer. You need to know about the company you are willing to work for and read their job description. When you are asked this question, tell them that working for them will be a challenging and beneficial experience to you both.
