  • THERE ARE OVER 20,000 PEOPLE WHO WORK AT AZ MILLS’ STORES At any given time there, 10-15% of these jobs are unfilled or the stores are trying to fill. That means that there are 200-300 openings available on any given time.
  • Tracking down these jobs is very time consuming and luck plays a large part of your AZ Mills Job search. The lazy job seeker (least likely to find work) will wait until they see a random advertisement or wait till someone tells you about an opening. This is easy, simple but, very ineffective and a waste of valuable time. By the time you learn about any opening; you are at the back of the line and it is a very long line. The shy job seeker may start calling stores (usually at random) and ask the same question over and over again until the tire or run out of minutes on their phone – whichever comes first. They will ask: “ARE YA HIRING?” This is ineffective at best because they are calling people who do NOT know them and who are many times too busy to take the time to talk to someone they do NOT know…the standard answer is: “Apply online” or “just “No…thanks for calling!” Remember it is very easy to say no over the phone than it is to say no in person. The shy but, bold computer job seeker will try to find the stores online and apply and apply but, with 180 stores; they will tire and fade fast as this is VERY time consuming. Even if they do all 180 stores, they still are not much closer to getting a job than they were before they started. WHY? Many retail managers, unless the hiring is done by a corporate recruiter instead of the store manager, will NOT take the time to go through the 50-10 new applications that they get every day. Small business owners and retail managers put much value on face-to-face meetings and put even more value upon in a person who was interested enough to present themselves in person. The go in person approach shows that you are motivated and that you are really interested in working for them. THE SUCCESSFUL JOB SEEKER WILL TAKE THE FOLLOWING STEPS. A. Take a day trip out to AZ Mills Mall. Start early. Make sure that you can get there and back ok. This involves looking at the bus schedules to know how long it will take you to get there, when the buses start and more importantly, when they stop. This will let you calculate if it is worth your while to job search here or not. B. After you determine that the location works for you, then visit the mall. Get a mall map (at the information desk). Walk the mall. Identify stores/restaurants that you are interested in working at based upon experience or interest in what they sell or what service they offer. C. Any place you are interested in; go in and talk to them about the store. Watch the store’s traffic flow, talk to some sales associates or staff to see what they are like. You would be really surprised by what people will tell you after you engage them in conversation…GOOD, BAD & UGLY…more importantly, you will now know
  • if you want to work there or not…Can’t get that INTEL over the phone/internet… UHH??? D. If you are interested, NOW, Introduce yourself and ask if it is possible to talk to someone about “UPCOMING OPENINGS” instead of “are you hiring?” If they are not busy, most people will talk with you. Ask them their process of applying for any current or upcoming opening. IMPORTANTLY, ask them the process to follow up your application, to who you direct the follow up to and anything else that might help you join the company…subversive networking/mentoring 101. TAKE NOTES (you did bring a pen, note pad and a master application/resume/business card with you…DIDN’T YA?). E. FOLLOW THROUGH AND FOLLOW UP… F. GET THE JOB AND GO TO WORK. CURRENT OPENINGS NOTE: Openings posted here are open time of this publication and remain open UNTIL FILLED by the employer. REMEMBER, the better the job the quicker it fills…the old cardinal rule is “snooze ya loose!” This is in NO way a complete list of all current openings as we do not have enough paper to print all of those! Please keep in mind that it is beneficial to YOUR employment chances to research, visit the mall and start conversations as suggested earlier.
  • 2B BEBE MON-SAT 10A-9P, SUN 11A-6P ENTRY/PARKING LOT #3 LOCATED AT ENTRY 3 ON THE RIGHT SIDE ACROSS FROM LAST CALL BY NEIMAN MARCUS & CHICO'S. A UC Davis Study of California Women Business Leaders ranked bebe #2 in 2012 following two straight years at #1 for our continued commitment to women and diversity in key leadership roles. Bebe has consistently been in the top 5 since the Study began in 2006. APPLYING: They recruit manager or above off the website. Use it to do your research before you apply but, you will need to go OLD SCHOOL and take your “A” Game out to impress them with what you know about them, how well you will fit in and how much you want to work there. Best time to hit them in the AM. TIPSTER: Know there fashions. =============================================================== AEROPOSTALE MON-SAT 10A-9P, SUN 11A-6P http://www.aeropostalecareers.com/ PARK AT LOT 2 & ENTER THROUGH ROSS NEXT TO ANIMAL KINGDOM. • ALEX OPTICAL (MON-SAT 10A-9P, SUN 11A-6P PARKING LOT 5, ENTER THROUGH ENTRY 5 OR SEARS. LOCATED BETWEEN H&M & SEARS. ENTER THROUGH ENTRY 5, TURN LEFT & THEY ARE ON THE LEFT OR ENTER THROUGH SEARS, TURN RIGHT & THEY ARE ON THE RIGHT. APPLYING: This is tough one. There is no application process on website. This is OLD SCHOOL and you need to go in with your “A” Game, have a conversation about them and the industry. If they have a hiring sign up in the window do apply but, if there isn’t, ask if you could fill out an application and get the business card of the manager to do a regular follow up (once a week or so). Remember, openings happen with much forewarning and your application is based upon them remembering you. The old saying “Out of sight, Out of Mind” applies to your chances with them. But, for them to remember you, you need to impress them with how sharp you were and how much you wanted to work there. http://alexopticalinc.com/ =================================================================== ALL FLAGS AND SPORTS Mon-Sat 10a-9p, Sun 11a-6p Park in lot 5 enter through Burlington, or come in through entry 5 & turn right. Don’t expect to drop them an application online unless you want to be a manager. Do NOT you fax or e-mail them your killer resume as they will not read it. This is going to be an OLD SCHOOL Introduction and your follow up is going to be critical to working here. As with the other stores, you must know the merchandize and/or fashions. Fill out an application; keep in touch is the key. Openings happen on a regular basis but, they almost never have to run ads. ===================================================== AMUSE YELP REVIEW: It's not the most organized store in Arizona Mills Mall, but it has a few key items I haven't found in any of the other stores. I'm talking about all the accessories! They have more bows and hair bands than you can shake a stick at and tons of colorful make-up palates and kits. I like to go just to snag a couple pairs of false eyelashes (they have so many different lengths and styles!) They also have some interesting jewelry like fake piercings and gauges. Very cool! I can always find something to finish off my ensemble. (Mon-Sat 10a-9p, Sun 11a-6p Park in lot 6. Enter through entry 6 and turn right. Next to JCPenney in neighborhood 3. TIPSTER: Nothing showing on the website for AZ Mills (4 FEB 2014) But, new posting posted every day. What we suggest is (next time you are there…you are going over to apply for something else…right?) that you stop by (non-busy hours 9-11A or 2-4P) and start a conversation with the staff about “what is it like to work here?” and if you know about the services and the industry…it will present a VERY positive image of you. Then, ask if they ever hire, ask if you could fill out an application and what the whole process is like…Welcome to subversive networking 101.
  • AUNTIE ANNE'S PRETZELS Mon-Sat 10a-9p, Sun 11a-6p Park in lot 1 & enter at entry 1. Make a right in mall. Store is on the left. Located in Neighborhood 1 directly across from Sports Authority & next to Dairy Queen. Each franchise owner independently hires his or her own management and crew. If you love a challenge and want to be part of something special, please start the application process by using our Store Locator to find the Auntie Anne's location nearest to you. http://www.auntieannes.com/Libraries/pdfs/Application_Online-2014.sflb.ashx NOTE: APPLICATION DOES NOT ASK ABOUT CONVICTIONS OR BACKGROUND CHECKS OTHER THAN REFERENCES/WORK. MUST HAVE THREE REFERENCES. If you'd like to work at an Auntie Anne's store (and, why you wouldn’t) you just might be able to. You can take either of these two approaches in PREVIOUSLY submitting your application: (1) print out and hand Incarcerated FRIENDLY in, or (2) print, scan and email. Print out and hand in: EMPLOYER 1. To get started, open this application. 2. Print the application; fill it in with your information; then, take it to the store closest to you. (Remember to smile when handing it in!) TIPSTER: Make yourself an expert by spending 10-15 minutes studying their website...look at the franchise info has this is where your intelligent conversation will come from. Spruce yourself up, put on your walking shoes and introduce yourself. TIPSTER: Normally, we don't recommend cover letters because they are not read but, here we get the feeling that it might be a reminder (if you are not hired then) when the next opening comes up. It is critical that you have a direct contact number and that you maintain the phone (how else is the employer going to reach you).
  • Bath & Body Works Outlet Mon-Sat 10a-9p, Sun 11a-6p Park in lot 3 & enter at entry 3 or through Marshalls. Turn right once inside the mall - Across from Group USA & Marshalls in neighborhood 3. EACH STORE OWNER INDEPENDENTLY HIRES HIS OR HER OWN MANAGEMENT AND CREW. This makes applying here very Old School and you need to get out there and impress them with your abilities and to do your follow ups if you didn’t get hired directly. WARNING TIPSTER: This is weird. They DO NOT ask about convictions. So they are friendly and/or past criminal history does not seem to count. Right? Wrong…Listen up campers; this is one of those new PR Applications like at Targets. How they do it is by asking you to explain any time of unemployment and in the miniature printing of the disclaimer which states that you wave all privacy rights for them to get full disclosure on anything you list on the application. Which means that you were ousted by yourself? There is another issue for anyone with less than a shinny record (as you gave them full disclosure), your previous employer can talk in detail about how bad you were and even gives this employer access to your HR Records. Can’t be so? YEA, it is! You gave them the right to do that. ================================================ BIGGY'S OF CHICAGO Mon-Sat 10a-9p, Sun 11a-6p Park in lot 1 enter through entry 1. Turn right by Sports Authority. Store is on the left. In between entry 1 and the food court across from Just Sports and next to Master Cuts Ok Campers, no website but they do have a facebook page which included their menu and some snappy insights to impress them . https://www.facebook.com/BiggysOfChica go/timeline Again, this is gonna be personal and based upon how well you impress them, your availability and their hiring needs. No website and no killer resume opening this door. You need to go in person and open the door by yourself. Get a business card and fill out their application and then, call or stop by from time-to-time to be in their sight and in their brain. ===============================================================
  • BLACK MARKET MINERALS Mon-Sat 10a-9p, Sun 11a-6p Park in lot 4. Enter at entry 4 and turn left. Store is on the right. Usually it means that you need to be upbeat, happy and willing to learn, although most managers have different standards. If you are there for more than a half an hour then this is a good thing. Once that interview and if the district manager is not present you will probably be called back to do a second interview usually over the phone as they are busy. Interview Question –  From coming in this store today what would you change to make this store even better than it is now? --------------------------------------------------- Sales Associate - I applied online and the process took 5 days Interview Details – The environment is casual and they do expect you to have a sense of fashion. Interview Question –  How do you keep up with fashion, if at all? --------------------------------------------------- Seasonal Sales Associate - I applied online and the process took 2 weeks Interview Details – I got a call shortly after applying asking if I was interested in an interview at the location. The interview turned out to be a small group interview, and the mood was very relaxed. The hiring manager was young and could easily relate to the applicants (all less than 25 y/o). The questions were pretty straightforward...generally what I expected. Emphasized my proven ability to be a team player based on participation in sports. Was also careful to smile for the majority of the interview - I think that really helped based on the orientation videos that repeatedly tell you to smile! Overall it was an easy interview everyone there was hired. Interview Question – Nothing too surprising:  Give me an example of a recent occasion where you received great customer service (name the store, what happened, did you report it?).  Give me an example of a recent occasion where you received poor customer service (name the store, what happened, did you report it?).
  •  What do you do if you have a problem with another team member?  What do you do if you realize you made a mistake? (REMINDER...they can check...Yea! Remember the application form your signed? It was a release form that gave them total access to your personnel files. ----------------------------------------------------- Sales Associate - I applied online and the process took 1 week Interview Details – Applying, I believe, is mostly online where you fill out an exceptionally long and thorough questionnaire. Although it is long, I give them props since it gives you a clear idea on what situations you will be encountering. Interview was held in person. Manager asked simple questions on previous work experience, examples of different obstacles/challenges in the store, and how you feel interacting with customers. This is a key to selling and overall satisfaction with your job. Trust me. Interview Question –  Why choose OLD NAVY over other competitive retailers in the area? --------------------------------------------------- Sales Associate Interview - I applied in-person and the process took 5 days Interview Details – The interview was taken in a group of four, interviewing for a seasonal position of sales associate. the group was asked questions about previous work experience as well as how to handle potential situations one might encounter throughout the work day. The interviewing party was very helpful in communicating the type of responses and employees they were looking for. at the end of the interview we were told that we would get a call back in a few days which we did and they discussed availability and set up a time to come in and sign paperwork and begin orientation. Interview Question –  What was one thing that your previous employer wanted you to do differently? ------------------------------------------------------ Sales Associate - I applied in-person and the process took 1 week Interview Details – Pretty standard interview to determine the type of person you are. They are focused on finding inviting and customer-oriented team players. Questions are are mainly based on how one would conduct themselves given various simple/difficult retail scenarios. If you are a friendly and helpful person you should do well in the interview.
  • Interview Question –  They ask you to give them a time that you've been dealt with a difficult situation and how you overcame it. ----------------------------------------------------- Sales Associate - I applied online Interview Details – It wasn't as scary as i thought it was going to be. The first interview is done in a group, essentially they want to see if you will stand out with that group, how you contribute to the group and overall how you work in groups. The manager hosting the interview will bring out certain topics like what do you like about the company, why do you think you’re a good fit, where do you see yourself in 5 years...ECT. If you make it past the first interview, you will then be asked to come back for the second interview which will be with the main manager. This will be a one-on-one interview that will cover pretty much what was covered in the first interview, but will focus more on yourself, your availability, your goals and your strengths and weaknesses. Interview Question –  You get about 5 minutes to put different women outfits together for different occasions, and then explain why you chose them. ================================================================= GREEN LEAFS & BANANAS Mon-Sat 10a-9p, Sun 11a-6p Entries 6 or 7 - Food Court =================================================================== GROUP USA THE CLOTHING COMPANY Mon-Sat 10a-9p, Sun 11a-6p Entry/Parking Lot #3. It might be better to first contact the store to see what positions are open and to do a little faceto-face networking to jumpstart this process. Sales Associate at Payless Shoe Source - Accepted Offer – May 11, 2013 Interview Details – I applied online. After two days I called in to inform them that I applied online. They took my name and number down and said they would call me the next day. I waited the next day; no call. Four days later, I got a voice mail asking if they could interview me. I called them and told them that I had school during those hours and we rescheduled. When I came to the store for my interview, the manager was out on lunch. I waited about 10 minutes before she came back. While I was waiting I had a conversation with one of the workers. She said she likes working at payless. After 10 minutes the manager took me to the back and told me a lot about herself. She seemed really nice. She then proceeded with asking me question that was pre-printed for her. She told me that she has interviewed a number of people and she hoped I was the one. She told me she would call me if I was hired or not. After 2 weeks, she called me asking if I can take a drug test. I told her I would. She then told me that she would call me the next day to tell me where to take my drug test. The next day she didn’t call. Weeks later she called provided the information. I passed the test and 5 days later she called me for training.

The reality if you read their fine print (you know all that stuff you checked without reading on the application) then you would already know what I know (I read it) is that they are fishing. They post the job but tell you that it does not exist. You didn’t see that? Yea! They are accepting applications in the remote case that they would run out of applicants (like if Martians invade and destroy most of their stores before Will Smith nukes them with MS Windows 98…anyway, you get it). Why do they do this? Maybe they know something we don’t about the aliens? Otherwise, they are collecting demographic information on you to prove to the government that they are diverse in their recruiting and sometimes in hiring. They are a federal contractor…any longer answer would go on for a page so I will stop here…just understand it helps them but, doesn’t get you hired (lost your interest with that…right?) The bottom line is you have to be known to them before they will pull your application. That means your cousin is their “Employee of the Month.” It could mean that your Mom goes to church with a manager or your best friend’s dad is a senior guy. It could have meant that you got tired of waiting for them and decided to create an opportunity for yourself. Actually, most people who get hired came in during the off season (everyone with little kids wants to work for them around the holidays – employee discount shopping) and introduced themselves several times. While you may have old lady luck riding with ya when you submit this application…then again…IF YOU REALLY WANT THIS JOB…Old School your way over to the store (2-4PM) and do your BEST Texas Two-Step Introduction to sweeten your odds…IMPRESS THEM WITH YOUR MOTIVATION… IF YOU CAN’T OR WON’T GO IN PERSON… WHY DID YOU APPLY FOR THAT JOB AGAIN? CAN’T AFFORD TO GO? You could have asked for a bus pass…think? TOO FAR? Why did you apply for that job then? TOO BUSY? Then you are already working or have too many things going on to hold a job? Either way, reading this will just upset you…stop now before you get all the way to the end!
  • FINAL TIPSTER SUGGESTION: Never leave a place without their business card and the name of three other people who might be hiring...Here is how you do that... "Sorry you guys aren't hiring...this seems like a really nice place to work...Could I still fill out an application...? Do you know anyone else (here in the area) that might be interested a person with my background and skills?” {THINK ABOUT THIS} If they ask “WHATZ Skills?” say “I’m glad you asked…” and start a new conversation… ================================================================ SPECIAL ISSUE: COSTCO! “…GETTING A JOB HERE IS NOT FOR THE LAZY APPLICANT…” Most people who apply at Costco will NEVER hear from the regarding their application. In fact 8 out of 10 will not get an interview and out of remaining two applications they will interview both and one person MAY get an offer. WOW! That’s tuff! It is impossible to get a job there right? It is impossible ONLY if you don’t know the secret(s) to getting your application seen and thus becoming one of the two that actually get considered. This is not for the faint hearted, those who have (be nice) lazy job seeking skills or those who totally believe that their “KILLER RESUME” is magical and it is soooo good that it can open any door or get them any job…these will be some of those 8 out of ten applicants who don’t get interviewed and the surely won’t be the one hired. Is it that hard? No…but, you must be willing to set-a-side that killer resume and start from scratch. First thing you need to know is… RULE # FOUR This is a very simple question, but in order to give a suitable answer to the recruitment position, you must know how to answer. You need to know about the company you are willing to work for and read their job description. When you are asked this question, tell them that working for Sears will be a challenging and beneficial experience to you. First thing you need to know is… RULE # FOUR (IN MORE THAN 30 WORDS): WITH MANY LARGE COMPANIES…it is important that you know that for the first two levels of review a real person does not see your application because the company’s computer system scans your application. The computer is a very bright 6 year old…very smart but, not a lick of logic. Getting selected for an interview is very difficult when the company screens your application with the computer and you do not have the cheat sheet (full job description). OK…YEA! We are talking (in general) about positions that require little or no experience…So why is it difficult? Why should you be worried? Because you just confused experience with skills. You are correct that the positions do not require experience but they do (many times) require a lot of skills. (See the job below):

Didn’t EVERY job you EVER have require that you do many of these things?
  •  How many of you have these skills and abilities encoded into your “KILLER RESUME?”  How many of you DO NOT have all of these things incorporated into your resume and/or (especially) your application because (guess what?) they didn’t get to see your “KILLER RESUME” and the computer didn’t accept it instead of the application?  How many of you cut-n-pasted your killer resume into the application because it is “sooo good?”  STILL WONDER WHY YOU DIDN’T GET CALLED FOR AN INTERVIEW?  WANT TO CHANGE THIS TREND? ANALYSIS This job requires little experience but (as you can see) requires a ton of ability and/or skills. Seems impossible? Not really! Have you ever run a cash register (Point of sale or POS System) ever? Did I ask how many times? No! All registers operate in the small basic way but, every company develops their own custom system that will require what? TRAINING? Yes, every company will train you as long as you have the core (basic) skills. Can you count? Can you handle cash? So, are you qualified? Look through those customer service skills. Is there anything that you didn’t do (if you worked or were around people at all) or that isn’t part of every job? The only deal maker or breaker here is: Have/be obtaining a HS/GED and do Ten Key. Ten Key for those who don’t know what that is. It is using a calculator, a computer or a ledger to enter numbers? TIPSTER: Did I ask you how many times that you did these things? Did I ask if that was the primary focus of the job? Did I ask for a breakdown of how much of your day was spent doing these? THE ANSWER TO EACH IS NO. The computer will be scanning your application for these words. The more times that the computer finds these words/phrases, the better your chances of getting an interview. So are these words in your job description(s)?
  • SO ALWAYS USE THE FULL JOB DESCRIPTIONS. READ THEM SEVERAL TIMES…TEAR THEM APART. PULL OUT ALL OF THE REQUIRED SKILLS AND THEN, GO THROUGH EACH OF YOUR JOBS AND MATCH UP WHAT THEY NEED AND WHAT YOU HAVE DONE… THAT’S ONLY IF YOU REALLY WANT THIS JOB? • register in the opening and closing duties maintained and collecting the register paperwork… Required to follow proper safety procedures, standards and responsible for cleaning the Front End area while adhering to all (OSHA) safety and security procedures. SEE THE DIFFERENCE…SAME PERSON…SAME SKILLS…ONE APPLICATION WILL BE TOLD THEY DO NOT QUALIFY…ONE APPLICATION WILL GET THE JOB…DO YOU SEE WHY? ========================================================== TIPSTER: The reason you need to do this is because a computer will scan your application to see if you have the required skills. The computer does not reason nor does it understand that what you did was the same thing – unless you tell it. The computer is like a six year old (bright but stupid in using logic). You need to be using the company’s key words and even the way they phrased the requirements. Only people who have done this will be selected by the computer to be reviewed by a real person. Don’t be like the computer, use common sense in filling out the application correctly. APPLICATION COMMON SENSE:  Most required skills will be general in nature.  Do not over complicate this! Customer Service is Customer Service if I am in retail or if I am an auto mechanic. REALLY! What is Customer Service? Isn’t it making sure that you customer has what they need and that they are happy with that? SEEZ!  Operating a cash register at the repair shop is no different than at any other store. Realize that if you have the basic operation down pat then you are good to go – as every store has a different system on which they will need to train you…if you have the basics.
  •  They are looking for skills and your ability to perform certain duties. They are not asking you how many times you actually did something but, rather, do you have the ability to do the task. If the job is riding a bicycle, do they really care where you learned to ride the bicycle or do they care if you know how to? SEE!  They are not asking you how many times you do an actual task. Only the government will ask you to do that kind of breakdown to what fraction of time per day did you perform each task.  REPEAT RULE #2.  Do not assume that the computer (or for that fact an employer) will understand every aspect of your job and realize that they will not connect the dots for you. That is not their job, it is yours! If you really want the job connect the dots (match up your skills with their requirements).  Understand that this is required to get the job and that the more time you spend to do a quality application the better you chances are of getting called for an interview. Volume does not count especially if they are done incorrectly. There is no such thing as close in applications…this is not a game of horseshoes, it is your future, your ability to get a job and return your life to normal. ================================================================================== http://www.simon.com/about_simon/hr/ ==================================================================
