It might be better to first contact the store to see what positions are open and to do a little face-to-face networking to jumpstart this process. Sales Associate at Payless Shoe Source - Accepted Offer – May 11, 2013 Interview Details – I applied online. After two days I called in to inform them that I applied online. They took my name and number down and said they would call me the next day. I waited the next day; no call. Four days later, I got a voice mail asking if they could interview me. I called them and told them that I had school during those hours and we rescheduled. When I came to the store for my interview, the manager was out on lunch. I waited about 10 minutes before she came back. While I was waiting I had a conversation with one of the workers. She said she likes working at payless. After 10 minutes the manager took me to the back and told me a lot about herself. She seemed really nice. She then proceeded with asking me question that was pre-printed for her. She told me that she has interviewed a number of people and she hoped I was the one. She told me she would call me if I was hired or not. After 2 weeks, she called me asking if I can take a drug test. I told her I would. She then told me that she would call me the next day to tell me where to take my drug test. The next day she didn’t call. Weeks later she called provided the information. I passed the test and 5 days later she called me for training. INTERVIEW QUESTION – • What is the biggest mistake you have made in your previous job? • How did you handle it?
  9. 9. Negotiation Details – The most negotiating we did was about working on Sundays. She said that if I were to get hired, I would need to work at least one Sunday a month. I agreed. -------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Sales Associate at Payless Shoe Source - Accepted Offer – Apr 23, 2013 Interview Details – Filled out an application online: it was very confusing and time consuming. I received a phone call for an interview about 1 month later. The interview was very straight forward... Be prepared to go through a selling role-play Interview Question – Have to be very specific..."Tell me about a time when..." --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Retail Sales Associate at Payless Shoe Source - Accepted Offer – Mar 18 Interview Details – - Hiring Process took about a week. The interview was great I felt really comfortable with the manager and she was very polite. Also, majority of the people that worked there spoke Spanish and knowing that I only spoke English was great for the store. Interview Question – Role Play: It's the BOGO sale (Buy One Get One 50% off) you have to sell 2 pairs and the customer is only interested in buying 1 pair for her daughters communion. What would you do to try and make the customer to buy 2 pairs?? 21. 21. USED JOB SHACK INSIDER: SALES FLOOR TEAM MEMBER AT TARGET - ACCEPTED OFFER –JUN 24, 2013 Interview Details –Applied online and got a call a few weeks later to set up a phone interview. Phone interview was simple questions like: • Why Target? • Tell me about yourself. • Tell me a time when you had to work in a team. • Tell me a time when you had to meet a short deadline. • Tell me a time when you helped someone else. After the phone interview I was called fifteen minutes later to set up an in-person interview. Arrived fifteen minutes early for the interview and was taken to the break room. I was shown a short video that stressed that customers are "guests" and employees are "team members." The interview itself was very short. I was asked: • Why Target? • Tell me a time when you made a mistake and what you did to correct it. • A woman is looking for a shoe for her son, but the proper size is not on the shelf, what would you do? • You're ringing up a customer and an item rings up at $19.99 but the customer swears the price was $15.99, what would you do? Once that was done I was shown to the break room once again, waited for 5 minutes and was offered a job (conditional to me passing a drug test). My interview was scheduled for 10am and I was offered a job by 10:30am. Interview Questions • A woman is looking for a shoe for her son, but the proper size is not on the shelf, what would you do? • You're ringing up a customer and an item rings up at $19.99 but the customer swears the price was $15.99, what would you do? --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- FLOW TEAM MEMBER AT TARGET - ACCEPTED OFFER – MAY 29, 2013 Interview Details –I filled out an application online and was contacted 2 days later to schedule an interview at the store. My availability was confirmed over the phone, but that was all I was asked... I never had an actual phone interview. My interview was scheduled for a Wednesday, exactly one week after I had turned in my application. They set me up at one of the job kiosks to do an assessment. The assessment consisted of some scenario based questions asking how I would react in certain
  22. 22. situations, as well as a few questions to test my skills for basic math. It was very easy. I was first interviewed by a team leader. He asked me some general questions about myself as well as some questions about situations I'd been in and how I had handled them. The questions were fairly simple, but you will be asked to provide specific examples, and they are looking for details! He then set me up to watch a video about Target that was several minutes long. You'll need to pay attention because the next person you interview with will ask questions that relate to the video. Next, I was interviewed by an individual who had more authority than the team leader. He asked me 1 or two more situation questions (basically the same thing the team leader had covered but worded differently) and several questions about my personality and experience. He asked if I had any questions. I asked if he could tell me more about the machines that are used in the backroom of the store and he then took me back to show me what the back room was like and how things functioned. He then told me that if everything sounded good to me then he'd like to offer me the position. He led me to an HR person who explained that I needed to take a drug test within 24 hours and that It would take about a week. She said they would be contacting me for orientation once they got the results. Interview Questions • The questions were all fairly easy. Overall, you want to show them that you can work as part of a team and that you have experience doing so as they are very big on time efficiency and team work. Also, have experiences/stories in mind to share! The questions on here WILL help you prepare. They ask everyone the same questions off of a sheet of paper. • Why do you want to work at target? • Tell me about a time when you worked on a team what was the outcome & what did you learn? • Tell about a time you had to lead others and how you executed your leading? View Answer • If a customer was searching for a pair of shoes for her three year old and couldn’t find them what would you do? • Name a time you exceeded a supervisors expectations, Name a time you made a mistake. I said around $8.00 or so an hour knowing that they start you around there. He said “good” because they usually start people $8-$8.50 an hour. The second person I interviewed with offered me $8.50 an hour and that was it. There is also a $1 shift difference pay as I will be coming in at 4am. The shift difference pay lasts from 4am until 8am, at which time the pay will drop back down to $8.50 an hour. ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- CASHIER AT TARGET - ACCEPTED OFFER– JUN 22, 2013 Interview Details –Applied online within a week got called in for an interview. I was interviewed by two managers. Most of the questions were tell me about a time when... kind of questions and how did u handle it. They asked so many questions I can’t remember them all. I was interviewed for like 20 minutes and I waited to get interviewed like 15 minutes. Interview Question – • Tell us about yourself. • Tell me about a time when you made a mistake and how did you handle it. • What is customer service? ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Customer Service Supervisor at Burlington Coat Factory Interview Details – The Hiring is very quick but they do hiring before getting background checks which is inconvenient to current workers because they just stop coming to work. So you might need to check that before applying you may be wasting time. My hiring process was three days and that concurred with other employees too. I was taken into the management office and then asked common interview questions like why I chose Burlington Coat Factory. Then I was taken around the store for a tour. After the interview I was reassured that I would be hired and by the way they told me my pay rate and hours before the questions really were asked. Interview Question –During the interview I was asked would I consider quitting the current job i had because they did not want me working two jobs. The other questions where more about personality like what do you like to do and basically telling a little about yourself so they can get to know you. Negotiation Details –I was not able to negotiate because they have a set rate they start every employee who walks through the door. I would say accept this job if you want to earn a little cash and have something to do during your spare time.
