I arrived early, filledout a background consent form and was lead to a ballroom where other interviews were takingplace. I first met with an HR representative who asked general questions. He passed me on tointerview with the Front Office Managers. It was two gentlemen. They explained more in depthwhat the position entailed and their expectations of the person chose for the position.Interviewing with these two was the most relaxed interview Ive ever had. They werecomfortable, warm, and hospitable and were like having a conversation with my friends. Theypassed me along to the Executive of rooms which was my last interview. I was initiallyintimidated and a little nervous because I knew this was it. He basically gave me scenarios as tothe types of situations I would be deal with and wanted to know how I would handle them.When we were done, he told me an HR representative will show me out. She came over andsaid that they all loved me and that they would like to offer a Position pending my background.Background took less than a week. All references and former employers were called. I acceptedthe position.INTERVIEW QUESTION –How would you deal with this . . . .? And that?
  12. 12. GALLERY HOST AT HYATTINTERVIEW DETAILS –I was called on a Saturday evening for a Sunday afternoon interview,which seemed odd to me. Once I arrived for my interview the gentleman a the front desk calledthe manager that was to interview, and then told him he would be right out. Twenty minuteslater he finally comes out of the back offices and escorts me to a table to start the interview. Heasks me some basic questions about myself and why I wanted to work in a hotel, specificallythis one, which I answered. He then asked me to role play checking someone into the hotel,even though I stated that I had no hotel experience, so I obliged. The remainder of theinterview was dominated by him and various ranting about the hotel, the employees, formeremployees, and his sorted life and background.INTERVIEW QUESTIONS Walk me through the following scenario: you are alone at the desk and there is one person trying to check-in, one person calling on the phone, an irate guest and a van driver that you cant get a hold of to help you.Answer Question Do you drink a lot?---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------FRONT DESK ASSOCIATE AT HYATTINTERVIEW DETAILS –So I applied online for the front desk position on Friday,HR called me onmonday and asked if I would like to apply for the greeter/ deli attendant I said I would put itsaid OnCall and I am looking for a full time position she told me one was opening up so I saidsure she schedule me for the next day which was Tuesday I interviewed with her, then the F&Bmanager and assistant. It went well, just be yourself talk a lot about your customerexperience... I know it went well because he was smiling as I was talking then came the F&Bdirector, that one went ok because he rushed me because he is a busy man but I charmed himas well. He told me he would let me know since I am the first one he interviewed for thatposition... Friday I got a call to give them my ssn for background check to see if I am a lawabiding citizen... wheew she called back in 3 hours to schedule an interview with me with theHotel G.M , That was monday, monday came and I interviewed with the big boss, he was superfrank, He kind of scared me..He asked me who I interviewed with and how did it go and beforeanyone gets hired he has to meet them, He spoke 90% of the ten min interview, he said he isn’tafraid of firing and taking people out you can imagine how I felt not offered the job but be toldabout that.. All I could say was I understand. He said if I had any questions I said No, he shookmy hands and said we will be in touch... I was like OMG...those 3 days was driving crazy Icouldn’t sleep because I much rather been told I didn’t get than to wait... On Thursday I got acall from the HR I got the Job!! Woot Woot Woot!! Thank you good!!Just be witty, sassy, fun, great listener and naturally happy... Be yourself! And you will get it...Orientation is Monday!! So excited I can sleep!!INTERVIEW QUESTION –What had you heard about the Hyatt--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------FRONT OF THE HOUSE AT HYATTINTERVIEW DETAILS –First contacted by HR rep via phone. When I went in for the initialinterview, I interviewed with the HR rep, Front Office Manager, Rooms Executive and Directorof HR. The atmosphere in the front of a hotel is very social and busy. Lots of workers fromdifferent departments were back and forth, all very friendly and welcoming. Interview from

Why I was interested in the position, why I stood apart fromother applicants, previous hotel experience, how would I handle certain guest situations?INTERVIEW QUESTION –How would you handle someone who was severely upset with theservice and their stay at the hotel?Answer QuestionNEGOTIATION DETAILS –There was a starting hourly wage, no negotiating for the position.----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------SEVER AT HYATTNO OFFER – INTERVIEWED BUT DIDN’T GET HIRED…Notice the difference?INTERVIEW DETAILS –I applied through their website for an open position. The following day,HR assistant contacted me for a phone screening interview. I was invited for in-house interview,taking place in two days. I had an option to choose a time slot, my choice was 9am. Once Iarrived at that time, there was 7-8 people waiting for interviews. I was waiting around 10 min,there was one person before me. My interview was conducted by a HR assistant (another one).It went smooth, basic questions about previous experience and skills, referrals. At the end, Iasked a question about the position; the provided answer was unclear with advice to ask themanager about details. I was asked to wait in for a second interview with the restaurantmanager. He came in 15 min later, obviously still sleepy (later on he yawned while asking aquestion). Other than, he was very precise. His questions were centered around providing greatservice and how to achieve it; there were 3 situation questions. I was asked to wait for a thirdinterview with the F&B manager. She arrived 10 min later and invited me to conduct theinterview in a conference room, where 3 other interviews were already taking place. First thingshe mentioned was "I havent seen your application, so I dont know what to ask you”???Awkward start. I recommended she looks at my resume, which I provided. More or less thesame questions as HR and the restaurant manager. My overall impressions from the interviewswere good. Besides the slightly unprofessional way of handing the interviews, the process wasstructured and standardized.INTERVIEW QUESTION –What is the difference between good service and great service?
