But last year at Chipotle, 97% of our general managers were promoted from our crews and because our company is growing, there's plenty of opportunity. Countless people who came simply looking for a job now find themselves leading dozens, or even thousands of people while enjoying a career that is totally fulfilling, fun, and financially rewarding beyond anything they thought possible. It's pretty simple: If you work hard, you'll get noticed and before you know it, you'll be on a roll. ========================================= The Peppersauce Café is a high volume, established café that has been serving customers for 20+ years. 13. 13. http://hodesgroup.http.internapcdn.net/hodesgroup_vitalstream_com/Burlington/092711_Bur lington_Coat_Factory_-_Video_2_REV.flv Sales Associate Location: Phoenix, AZ - Requisition ID: 181-753291 HERE IS THE FULL JOB DESCRIPTION. READ IT SEVERAL TIMES…TEAR IT APART. PULL OUT ALL OF THE REQUIRED SKILLS AND THEN, GO THROUGH EACH OF YOUR JOBS AND MATCH UP WHAT THEY NEED AND WHAT YOU HAVE DONE… THAT’S IF YOU REALLY WANT THIS JOB? TIPSTER: The reason you need to do this is because a computer will scan your application to see if you have the required skills. The computer does not reason nor does it understand that what you did was the same thing – unless you tell it. The computer is like a six year old (bright but stupid in using logic). You need to be using the company’s key words and even the way they phrased the requirements. Only people who have done this will be selected by the computer to be reviewed by a real person. Don’t be like the computer, use common sense in filling out the application correctly. APPLICATION COMMON SENSE: • Most required skills will be general in nature. • Do not over complicate this! Customer Service is Customer Service if I am in retail or if I am an auto mechanic. REALLY! What is Customer Service? Isn’t it making sure that you customer has what they need and that they are happy with that? SEEZ! • Operating a cash register at the repair shop is no different than at Burlington Coat Factory. Realize that if you have the basic operation down pat then you are good to go – as every store has a different system on which they will need to train you…if you have the basics. • They are looking for skills and your ability to perform certain duties. They are not asking you how many times you actually did something but, rather, do you have the ability to do the task. If the job is riding a bicycle, do they really care where you learned to ride the bicycle or do they care if you know how to? SEE!
  14. 14. • They are not asking you how many times you do an actual task. Only the government will ask you to do that kind of breakdown to what fraction of time per day did you perform each task. REPEAT RULE #2. • Do not assume that the computer (or for that fact an employer) will understand every aspect of your job and realize that they will not connect the dots for you. That is not their job, it is yours! If you really want the job connect the dots (match up your skills with their requirements). • Understand that this is required to get the job and that the more time you spend to do a quality application the better you chances are of getting called for an interview. Volume does not count especially if they are done incorrectly. There is no such thing as close in applications…this is not a game of horseshoes, it is your future, your ability to get a job and return your life to normal. So, here is the full job description, try it out. The more practice you have, the faster the process will go and the better you will get…thus, the more call backs you will get…This part of the job search is science not art! INTERVIEW DETAILS – I talked to one of the managers in the main office. He asked what my availability was, how long I'd been shopping at Burlington, if I had thought there'd been any changes, about my previous work experience, and how my former employer would describe me. At the end, he told me I would be contacted the next day to be told whether or not I got the job. I was contacted three days later instead by another manager who asked me how I felt about working in the sales department. I was never even told I was hired, he just told me to bring my bank information to set up the direct deposit. I went to do that and he told me orientation was in two days. Orientation was two hours long, we got a tour of the store, we filled out paperwork, and we got our schedule for the next week. --------------------------------------------------------- Fitting Room Attendant Interview I applied online and the process took 3 weeks - interviewed at Burlington Coat Factory. INTERVIEW DETAILS – Applied online and got a call about 3 weeks later for a job interview. Met with HR and had a 5 minute interview. She scheduled an interview with store manager next
  17. 17. day. Store manager asked 3 basic questions and asked what position I wanted. Said background check info would be emailed to me and to fill it out. 3 days later HR called to say I was hired. Interview Question – All basic... • When is a time you RECEIVED great customer service? • Name a time when something unexpected happen at work, what did you do? ---------------------------------------------------------- Cashier Interview I applied online and interviewed at Burlington Coat Factory. INTERVIEW DETAILS – I applied for the job as Cashier Sales Associate and got a call back within about 2 weeks for an interview. After the 1st interview I had a 2nd interview the next day. I then had to wait for background check results to come in and was just officially hired today! The interview process was fairly easy, plus the interviews were very nice. They both asked questions like why you want to work here and what does customer service mean to you... INTERVIEW QUESTION – • What does speed is time mean to you? ------------------------------------------------------------ Sales Associate Interview I applied online and the process took 6 days - interviewed at Burlington Coat Factory. INTERVIEW DETAILS – Filled application online Got a call back for an interview, went in a few days later. I got interviewed by the store manager. SHE ASKED ME SOME QUESTIONS: • Why do you want to work here? • Why I left my last job? I got hired on the spot. They also do background checks. Mine took a few days for them to receive it. Dress code is black polo shirt and khaki pants ------------------------------------------------------------Sales Floor Associate Interview I applied in-person and interviewed at Burlington Coat Factory. INTERVIEW DETAILS – I walked in and ask if they were hiring. I was handed an application and filled it out. I then waited about 20 mins for the manager who had an opening to return from lunch so I could personally hand him my application. He finally returned and we chatted for a few minutes. I was later invited to meet with the store manager during the interview process. The store manager was very dry and lacked personality. I felt like she didn't want to be there. INTERVIEW QUESTION – • How would I handle an angry customer? -------------------------------------------------------------- Merchandise Team Associate Interview I applied online and the process took 3 weeks - interviewed at Burlington Coat Factory INTERVIEW DETAILS – Simple. He asked basic questions - most, directed to my opinion or personal experience and a few about my work background. INTERVIEW QUESTION – MOST UNEXPECTED• Name a time; you went above and beyond to do something for someone else. ---------------------------------------------------------------

I showed up about 5 minutes early, and it took about another 10 minutes to get to my interviewer because they were so busy. I met with the Cashier Manager first (the one who called me) and she was super nice. She asked things like, "What experience and characteristics do you have that would make you a good fit here? Tell about a time when you had to be honest about a mistake you made." Things like that. Then she told me that was the end of the initial interview, and then she brought in the Store Manager for a second interview. She was also very nice. SHE ASKED THINGS LIKE: • What are your plans for the future? • What is your standard of customer service and how to you achieve that? • Tell of a time when you were in a team. She told me she thought I would be a good fit here and offered me a job on the spot, pending drug test, etc. INTERVIEW QUESTION – Tell of a time when you had to take initiative. ----------------------------------------------------------------- Retail Associate Interview I applied online and the process took 5 days - interviewed at Burlington Coat Factory INTERVIEW DETAILS – You will speak to the hiring manager and answer basic interview questions such as: • Mention a time you have dealt with a difficult customer. • Why do you want to work here? Make sure you have a clear idea of your availability. Don't be afraid to ask questions. Reason for Declining – The manager was really kind, willing to find the best work area for me and work with my schedule. However, my school schedule was still undetermined and it was my top priority. Also, after doing retail for a number of years, I don't think I could again! ================================================================= Burlington Coat Factory began as a family business.
