  • USED JOB SHACK INSIDER…LowesConsumer Service Associate at LowesInterview Details –I applied online and completed an online assessment. Then Ihad two interviews. One was with the human resources manager and the otherwas with an assistant manager and the department manager in the area I wasapplying for. Both of the interviews were not difficult. The process took about 3weeks and the interview questions were standardized by Lowes. I was offered aposition after my second interviews.Interview Question –It was very straight forward.-------------------------------------------------------------------------------Seasonal Day Shift at LowesAccepted Offer– Reviewed Mar 10, 2013Interview Details –I applied for the Seasonal Day Shift position. I wasnt contactedby the company until one month later. By that time, I had assumed Lowes wasntinterested in my application, so I was a bit surprised when they finally contactedme. They asked me if I was still interested in the position I had applied for, which Isaid yes, and then they proceeded to schedule me for an interview on thefollowing day. The interview was over the phone, which Ive never done before,so I was a bit nervous. But if you go into the interview prepared, and ready todiscuss your previous work experience, theres no reason to be nervous.When the time came for my interview, I received the call from the HR managerright on schedule. The manager introduced herself, gave me a rundown of thecompany and the position I had applied for, and proceeded to fill me in on theinterviewing process, which would include a second interview with the storemanager. After the briefing, she jumped right into questioning. She asked me thesame exact questions that were on the application I had completed for Lowes. Sokeep those questions in mind when heading into the interview. Its all standardretail questions: describe the best customer experience you ever gave, discuss atime you had to take on a challenging role, and how did you overcome thechallenge, etc. I was asked about five questions in all, and the entire interview ranapproximately 15 minutes. After the interview was over, the manager informedme that she would review my responses and I may be contacted for a possiblesecond interview.Two days later, I was contacted by Lowes and scheduled for a second interviewthe very next day.The second interview was in-person with the store manager. The store managerwas very nice; he cracked a few jokes to help ease my nerves before he startedthe interview. Once again, I was asked standard retail questions: how would youcontact a customer you saw in your department, how would you handle a difficultcustomer, describe a time you didnt see eye-to-eye with a manager orsupervisor, and how did you resolve the situation, etc. I was asked about eight
  • questions, and the entire interview felt like it was ten minutes long. After thequestioning was over, the manager excused himself from the room, and cameback with a job offer.After accepting the offer, I filled out all the necessary paperwork, completed adrug test on location (cotton swab only, no peeing in a cup!), and I was scheduledfor orientation.Interview Question –Every question I was asked during the entire interviewingprocess involved discussing my previous work experience (If this is the first jobyoure applying to, you can discuss previous school or volunteer experienceinstead). Nothing difficult. I was asked all standard retail questions, many of whichcame directly from the application I completed for Lowes. However the questionthat took me the longest to respond to was: Describe a time you made a mistakeat work. What mistake did you make, and how did you resolve it?Negotiation Details –For me, there was no negotiation phase. After my secondinterview was completed, the hiring manager gave me a job offer and I liked whatI saw. The hourly rate Lowes offered me was higher than the hourly rate at myother job (a company I have been working with for over three years now).
