After the blockbuster David LaChapelle show last spring, la Monnaie de Paris (the Paris Mint) exhibits 150 works by French humanist photographer Willy Ronis, who would have turned 100 this year. Ronis passed away in 2009 after bequeathing his collection to the State in 1983, the source of this exhibition, in partnership with the Jeu de Paume. Articulated around 5 themes intrinsic to Ronis’ oeuvre: the street, work, travel, the body and intimate moments from Ronis’ own life, the show provides many nostalgic images of post-war Paris, of course, but you’ll also discover many never-before-seen photos, including more contemporary shots from the 80s, which give a more complete picture of the passionate photographer’s life work. The show opens today.
Until 22 Aug. 7 €/ 5 €.
