  • Trying to use Social Media for fundraising We’ll talk about why social media is changing the way communication happens and how that will continue to impact online fundraising. But we’re not going to just hit on tactics, we’ll look at a few examples that show us how to be social on the web
  • Print - | Radio - | TV - | Internet - | Social web - It’s evolution ... think direct mail ==> eMail
  • Your volunteers, donors and advocates are getting younger They expect something different How you connect and gain the hearts of new age donors will continue to morph ... it’s more and more relational now. Gen “I” is growing up with the internet and mobile devices - it’s how they will want to be communicated to!
  • Direct mail > web > email > social --- We used to send direct mail ... Then the web came along and we put our print material there ... “brochure-ware” Next eMail came along and proved to be a great way to communicate But ... these forms of communication we’re one way Now we’re in the “Human, Conversational, Two-way” web
  • Do you want to - Build cause awareness - Connect with new supporters - Cultivate supporter relationships - Build a private space on the web for your community - Raise more money to further your mission How are you doing these things today? How can you integrate social media into your current strategy?
  • Raising awareness about cancer, survivors, research, etc by building community
  • What’s one of your strategic objectives and how could you use social media to achieve results? or ... how are you doing it now?
  • Listening is a concept used on the web to mean “hearing what others are saying about you and/or your organization”
  • Story of blogger taking local Red Cross class - the individual had a bad experience
  • They called the local chapter and got them in touch with the blogger.
  • If you were listening how could you use the information?
  • There are hundreds of social networking sites and ways to use social media. You can’t/shouldn’t use them all. Any full time “social media” people in the room? Any “1/2 time”? Other? Where will you choose to participate?
  • What would your map look like and why?
  • Once you have figured out your objective, learned to listen and picked the social places you’ll participate it’s time to ENGAGE ...
  • Mothers day project by Epic Change (btw, they have 2 fte and a few volunteers, but they are VERY active on the social web) Project focused on showing mama’s around the world how much they are loved Goal to raise money for Mama Lucy’s project in Tazaneya
  • Their site is build with “social” in mind
  • Twitter, Facebook, Share with a friend
