      • For a decade (1995 – 2006)
      • the UOC’s student:
      • was geographically scattered
      • had access to the Virtual Campus through a single channel: Internet
      • Used a single device: computer
      2007 MOBILITY
      • Scattered and itinerant students
      • They have access to the Virtual Campus trough different channels: Internet, television, mobile phones
      • They use different devices: personal computers, laptops, television, mobiles

      Cross-platform Cross-channel and cross-device How ?
      • Cross-platform, Cross-channel and cross-device
With no need to adapt the contents to every channel and every platform Technologies that allows to go on to a cross-platform and cross-channel e-learning system are: Silverlight and Media center
      • Processing contents with the appropriate technology in order to:
        • Standardize them
        • Structure them
        • Syndicate them
        • Packaged them
      • To be able to have access to the contents:
        • Trough different channels
        • Without depending on the platform
      • E-learning... beyond the web page
      • Cross-platform, Cross-channel and cross-device
      • Silverlight technology
      • Media center technology
      • Media center: UOC’s case
      • Silverlight technology
      • Microsoft Silverlight is a cross-browser, cross-platform and cross-device technology
      • Enables dynamic 3d interfaces to be created.
      • Naturally integrates video and audio on the web without the need for additional installed programmes instalados
      • Silverlight technology
      Web / XAML Cross-browser Cross-platform Cross-device
    2. Silverlight RoadMap
      • Silverlight technology
      • E-learning... beyond the web page
      • Cross-platform, Cross-channel and cross-device
      • Silverlight technology
      • Media center technology
      • Media center: UOC’s case
      • Media center technology
Media Center offers the possibility of publishing interactive content for free that can be accessed form a TV. If this content is offered via Silverlight it becomes compatible with the rest of the platform’s channels .
      • Media center technology :
      • Take advantage of flexible contents created with Silverlight technology to foster a real convergence of the PC and television
      • is included as a component of Windows Vista
      • It is in 90% of computers sold last year
      • Media center technology
Convergence TV - PC A new channel
      • E-learning... beyond the web page
      • Cross-platform, Cross-channel and cross-device
      • Silverlight technology
      • Media center technology
      • Media center: UOC’s case
      • Media center: UOC’s case
      • Media center: UOC’s case
      • Characteristics:
        • Text losses its prominence in favor of image (either static and dynamic).
        • Audiovisual contents can be the backbone for delivering information and the “natural” device to consume it could be used: the television.
Students use a remote control to interact with the contents instead of use a mouse Remote control
      • Media center: UOC’s case
To develop a Media Center entails changing dynamics and habits used for designing web pages A new scenario has come out
      • To use a remote control for navigating entails:
        • To simplify navigation (horizontal – vertical)
        • To assume that not the 100% of the screen will be an interactive point
        • To simplify content hierarchical organization
