- One of the most important ways we can support learners is to determine whether they are already competent in an area.
- This can be done through examining the Learner Profile.
- Characteristics included in the Learner Profile are: - gender - age bracket - level of education - employment status - level of English - specific cultural requirements - particular skills or expertise in the area - positive or negative attitude to learning and training - language, literacy or numeracy needs
- So how do we find this information? We ask.
- Some possible resources for learner profile information are supervisors and managers. Of course, it is always important to talk to the learners, themselves.
- If there are not too many students, you can call them in advance to discuss learner profile information. Otherwise, a simple survey emailed to participants can suffice.
- When learner profile information is used appropriately, the training will achieve a higher standard because is reflects the needs of the learner.
