    All about Angina in India: Symptoms and Cause - Presentation Transcript

    1. All about Angina in India: Symptoms and Cause Medical tourism offers treatment for Angina in India at best hospitals of Goa, Delhi, Kerala, and Jaipur. They have best specialist doctors, with most top end being educated in USA and UK. As health care costs skyrocket, patients in the developed world are looking overseas for medical treatment. India is capitalizing on its low costs and highly trained doctors to appeal to these "medical tourists”. Many countries have developed links for speedy treatments in India for their nationals on account of the fact that in these countries one has to wait for extended periods of time to undergo operations. Medical tourism guarantee that patients will receive the finest Angina treatment in India with most advanced medical facilities in the world and specific programs carefully designed to attract international travelers. Angina manifest as chest pain, heaviness, pressure or discomfort, and is triggered by deficiency in oxygen that is carried to the heart by the blood, mainly due to thickening and hence narrowing of coronary arteries. Exercise, cold or emotional stress can provoke an angina attack. It is not common to equate severity of angina with risk of fatal cardiac events. There is a weak relationship between severity of pain and degree of oxygen deprivation in the heart muscle (i.e., there can be severe pain with little or no risk of a heart attack, and a heart attack can occur without pain). Symptoms of Angina: You may be having angina if you experience the following symptoms as suggested by surgeons in India: 1. Episodes of pain, pressure, burning or squeezing in the chest, jaw, shoulders, back, or arms, lasting upto 5 - 10 minutes. 2. Unexplained episodes of shortness of breath lasting up to 5 – 10 minutes. 3. Episodes of palpitations with lightheadedness or dizziness. Most patients with angina complain of chest discomfort rather than actual pain: the discomfort is usually described as a pressure, heaviness, tightness, squeezing, burning, or choking sensation. Apart from chest discomfort, angina pains may also be experienced in the epigastrium(upper central abdomen), back, neck area, jaw, or
    2. shoulders. This is explained by the concept of referred pain, and is due to the spinal level that receives visceral sensation from the heart simultaneously receiving cutaneous sensation from parts of the skin specified by that spinal nerve's dermatome, without an ability to discriminate the two. Typical locations for referred pain are arms (often inner left arm), shoulders, and neck into the jaw. Angina in India is typically precipitated by exertion or emotional stress. It is exacerbated by having a full stomach and by cold temperatures. Pain may be accompanied by breathlessness, sweating and nausea in some cases. It usually lasts for about 3 to 5 minutes, and is relieved by rest or specific anti-angina medication. Chest pain lasting only a few seconds is normally not angina. Some experience "autonomic symptoms" (related to increased activity of the autonomic nervous system) such as nausea, vomiting and pallor. Major risk factors for angina in India include cigarette smoking, diabetes, high cholesterol, high blood pressure, sedentary lifestyle and family history of premature heart disease. Types of Angina: 1. Stable Angina 2. Unstable Angina 3. Variant Angina Stable Angina: Stable angina is the most common type in India. It occurs when the heart is working harder than usual. Stable angina has a regular pattern. If you know you have stable angina, you can learn to recognize the pattern and predict when the pain will occur. The pain usually goes away in a few minutes after you rest or take your angina medicine. Stable angina isn't a heart attack, but it makes a heart attack more likely in the future. Unstable Angina: Unstable angina (UA) is defined as angina pectoris that changes or worsens. It has at least one of these three features: 1. It occurs at rest (or with minimal exertion), usually lasting >10 min;
    3. 2. It is severe and of new onset (i.e., within the prior 4-6 weeks); and/or 3. It occurs with a crescendo pattern (i.e., distinctly more severe, prolonged, or frequent then previously). In people with unstable angina in India, the chest pain is unexpected and usually occurs while at rest. The discomfort may be more severe and prolonged than typical angina or be the first time a person has angina. The most common cause is reduced blood flow to the heart muscle because the coronary arteries are narrowed by fatty buildups (atherosclerosis). An artery may be abnormally constricted or partially blocked by a blood clot. Inflammation, infection and secondary causes also can lead to unstable angina. In a form of unstable angina called variant or Prinzmetal's angina, the cause is coronary artery spasm. Variant Angina (Prinzmetal's angina): Variant angina is rare. It usually occurs while you're at rest. The pain can be severe. It usually happens between midnight and early morning. This type of angina is relieved by medicine. Variant angina pectoris is also called Prinzmetal's angina. It doesn't follow physical exertion or emotional stress, either. Attacks can be very painful and usually occur between midnight and 8 a.m. Variant angina is due to transient coronary artery spasm. About two-thirds of people with it have severe coronary atherosclerosis in at least one major vessel. The spasm usually occurs very close to the blockage. Treatment available for angina in India: The main goals of treatment in angina pectoris are relief of symptoms, slowing progression of the disease, and reduction of future events, especially heart attacks and, of course, death. Low- dose aspirin decreases the risk of heart attack in patients with chronic stable angina that have no contraindications to aspirin therapy. Beta blockers (e.g., carvedilol, propranolol, atenolol) have a large body of evidence in morbidity and mortality benefits (fewer symptoms, less disability and longer life) and short-acting nitroglycerin medications are used for symptomatic relief of angina.
    4. Medical tourism provides best of surgeons available for Angina Treatment in India. People are now aware of the health facilities being provided in Jaipur, Delhi and knowledge of English language is another major advantage, along with a zero waiting period. India now becoming the hottest medical destination, more and more people are coming to our state and we have been able to break the monopoly to a great extent. Surgeons in India have established themselves as highly skilled and conscientious caregivers worldwide. Many doctors who have trained or worked abroad have returned to India to work here. Their reputation has led to the growth of the Medical Tourism industry in India.
